Guide – Workpiece side types

Main benefitsEase of use, flexibility (by using reduction sleeves) and high transmittable torque are the main advantages of PMC’s tool holding technology. PMC are an additional holder type for cylindrical tool shanks, generating higher clamping torques vs. existing most performant Seco solutions like Strong Shrinkfit holder, and Strong Hydraulic chucks (which have their complementary advantages of precision).

PMCs can hold all type of tools with cylindrical shank (Weldon and Whistle-Notch with limitations). Their high clamping force and high run-out precision are suitable for rough to finishing machining operation, eg. milling, drilling, threading.

PMCs design uses a nut and a needle bearing acting on the small tapered external diameter of chuck’s body, generating extremely high clamping power onto the tool shank, with the advantage to require low tightening torque. Easy to use: just tighten the nut until his face presses onto chuck’s body: Other advises, see the complete operating instructions delivered with each chuck.

- PMC machine sides (spindle interfaces): HSK-A; Seco-CaptoTM; DIN; BT and BT Taper-Face; Ansi and Ansi Taper-Face.- Workpiece sides (tool shank sizes and types):• Direct chuck clamping:

- plain cylindrical diameters 20 mm & 32 mm and 0,750” & 1,25”- Weldon diameter 20 mm and 0.750”

• Reduction sleeves clamping: - plain cylindrical: diameters 6 mm to 25 mm and 0,250” to 1,000”.- Weldon: diameters 6 mm to 25 mm and 0,250” to 1,000”.- Whistle-Notch: diameters 6 mm to 25 mm and 0,250” to 1,000”.

• Note: Suitable tools shanks diameters tolerance: maxi h6.

Product featuresTransmittable torque:Minimum transmittable static torque to the tool shank (Nm) : Chucks diameters 20 mm and 0,750”: 640 N.m (472 Lb.ft).Chucks diameters 32 mm and 1,25”: 1500 N.m (1106 Lb.ft).

Run-out:Maximum run-out, at a gauge projection of 3x ØDCBN-DCBX in relation to chuck’s machine side taper:- Direct chuck clamping: maximum 5 μm.- Reduction sleeves clamping: maximum 10 μm.

Balancing quality:- Pre-balanced by design: also noticed in Product pages ‘Balancing column’.- Can be fine balanced to G6.3 on request, please enquire.

Maximum Rpm:- Chucks diameters 20 mm and 0,750”: 15 000 Rpm maxi.- Chucks diameters 32 mm and 1,25”: 10 000 Rpm maxi.

Stop end screws:Chucks with DIN, BT, BT TF, Ansi, Ansi TF machine sides are delivered with a stop screw fitted (no stop screw in HSK nor Seco-Capto types due to lack of space), allowing fast interchange of tools.

Through coolant features and through coolant stop end screwsPMC are designed for through coolant:- For tools without coolant through channel(s):• Direct chuck clamping: coolant flows through the grooves in chuck’s bore, along tool. • Reduction sleeve clamping: coolant flows through sleeve’s slots along tool.• In the case of chucks delivered with a stop screw, best is to screw back or remove the

screw in order to allow reliable coolant flow between screw and tool (if screw is in contact with tool, only few coolant leakage will flow).

- For tools with coolant through channels: For reliable tool through coolant, use a ‘Stop screws for though coolant’, available as accessories: their tapered workpiece side seals the contact screw / tool shank therewith forcing coolant through tool’s coolant channel(s). Screws are screwed or click-fitted into chuck’s front. Select the suitable screw according to chuck, or chuck and reduction sleeve used with the ‘Stop screws for though coolant’ selection chart in the Product pages.

PMC delivery contents- Extractor for sleeves: also available as Spare parts.- Chucks with DIN, BT, BT TF, Ansi, Ansi TF machine sides are delivered with a stop screw fitted: also available as Spare parts (no stop screw in HSK nor Seco-Capto due to lack of space).- Operating instruction.- Note: reduction sleeves are delivered without additional content.

Main benefitsKnowing that Power milling chucks (PMC) are available in only few diameters: reduction sleeves for PMC allow to clamp several tool shank diameters and types into a same chuck.These reduction sleeves are specific for PMC, as different in dimensions and tolerances from existing reduction sleeves, eg. the ones for Hydraulic chucks.

Product features

Transmittable torque:For a same tool shank diameter, the transmittable torque with reduction sleeve is at least equivalent or higher compared to a direct chuck clamp-ing: as a result of using a bigger chuck. As bigger the chuck used, as bigger the transmittable torque.

Run-out:For chuck with reduction sleeve: Maximum run-out, at a gauge projection of 3x ØDCBN-DCBX (tool shank diameter) in relation to chuck’s machine side taper: maximum 10 μm.Note : Direct chuck clamping: maximum 5 μm.
