For the poster we had to come up with something that would successfully grab the audience attention making them want to watch the movie. We had to come up with an applying image to lure the audience in and use all the right colours in order to create the horror feel to the poster and get the message of the film across to the audience.

We came up with two possible ideas for our poster. First we had to note down how we was going to create the layout of the poster, as we have seen different type’s layouts. For instances, insidious 2 has two different film posters.

The two posters presented above are the two different film posters for insidious. As you can see the first poster has everything positioned on the right and left sides and the centre is left blank with just the tagline in it. Also this poster is breaking conventions as the production information is at the top of the poster and not at the bottom like the second poster or any other poster in fact. The title of the film is going down the side which is not conventional again. The second poster is more conventional, both use different images so we thought we would experiment with different images and see which image is more effective. For the poster layout we kept it conventional to the film poster layout, having the production information at the bottom and the image in the centre of the frame and the title just under the image.

We create two possible images that we could use for our film poster. One was focused on the jack in the box which is our main prop in the movie which possesses the child in the movie. The image had the jack in the box in the centre of the frame and a black background with a red boarder. The black background would connote the evil and death in the movie and the red connotes blood and danger

and the black background and red boarder would suggest flames coming from the box as it creates hell for the family.

The other film poster idea we had is that we will use the main character the child ‘Isaac’, he will be in the centre of the frame and dominating the poster and he will be holding the jack in the box and he will have his down while making eye contact with the audience. This creates the idea that the boy is being controlled by the box and with the boy making eye contact with the audience, creates the feeling that he could be after them.

We draw up our ideas and with the two ideas we went around asking our audience which they would prefer and the majority prefer the idea with the boy holding the box makes the poster more effective.
