I have chosen to analyses the horror of poster ‘Sinister’. When you first set your eyes on the poster you are instantly drawn to the little girl smearing a picture of what looks like a monster on the wall with her bloody hands. They used a child for the poste so the audience would sympathy for her because she’s vulnerable. The blood of the wall created into a monster like character tells the audience that there is some significance to it and it implies that that’s what the film is about. Also the tag line underneath the title ‘Once you see him, nothing can save you.’ which suggests danger and that something will hurt them which emphasizes the horror genre. At the top of the poster is says ‘from the producer of ‘paranormal activity’ and ‘insidious’ which will make fans of those famous films want to come and see this film to see if it compares to those films. The cracks in the wall in the background gives that’s something made those happen and meant to damage the wall suggesting violence. The little girl is dragging the blood across the wall with her hand which will make the audience question why she’s doing it and that a little ‘innocent’ girl wouldn’t do that by choice so someone or something has made her do it.

The scary tag line lets the audience know that he’s waiting to be seen and suggests danger.

The reason why mention famous films is gain the fans of those films to see it this as its amazing like these ones.

The child will gain sympathy and would suggest to the audience that because she is a child she would be vulnerable.

The child has smeared blood across the wall into a scary face which would make the audience ask questions to why she has done that.

The colours for the cover are mainly red, white and black. The colours symbolise violence, gore and blood, the content that are featured in horror films. The white and black can be linked to the colours of the killers mask.

There is a banner on the top of the magazine cover which has puffs that give you information on what they have on the magazine but there articles not related to the cover image.

The font is used very bold and stands out from the background.

One of the things you notice straightaway about the magazine cover is that the image takes the whole page, so that we put all our attention is on the image.

The puff at the bottom of the page is linked to the main image on the magazine. Some words stand out more than others such as ‘RETURNS!’ which is in a light blue font whereas most of is white, it helps establish ‘Scream’ making a comeback into popular culture.
