Ports around the world, though in the midst of the economic diffi culties, should move ahead with continued investment to improve productivity and expand capacity. This was unanimously agreed by the world port community, which met in Genoa, Italy, at the World Ports Conference of the IAPH. Unless ports continue their eff orts to prepare for the economic recovery, they will be too late to cope with the demand once the economy, which relies on global logistics networks, re-bounds.

Ports & Harbors is the offi cial journal of IAPH – the only worldwide organisation of port authorities. IAPH represents about 200 ports of some 90 maritime countries as well as 140 port-related public and private organisations.

The member ports together handle nearly 90% of the world’s container traffi c and some 60% of the world maritime trade. IAPH is proactively addressing a range of issues facing the world’s ports both among its members and at international forums such as the International Maritime Organisation and International Labour Organisation.
