IBDP FINAL PROJECT- Bottle Opener

Good designs serve the purpose of its users.

Based on a similar thought process, I decided to

make a bottle opener for a popular food

chain, Chili's as my final IBDP project. In

today’s world where humans are more

dependent on machines, simple tools like can

openers are being neglected. Due to their small

and simple design, bottle openers are not

considered important anymore. However, in

most restaurants bottle openers are not

considered very important, however they play a

major part in day to day use. Hence proper

aesthetics and branding has started to matter

in today’s world. My bottle opener serves the

above purpose. The whole project included

research on the

restaurant, brainstorming, conceptual

ideas, different techniques, making of the

product and evaluation. I wouldn't say that my

design was a complete success, but it was a

good learning process for my industrial design

career.

The picture consists of free hand sketch, 3-D

sketch and the actual product.

TRIBA LAMP

This is a tribal lamp made of laser

printing done on Medium-density

fiberboard (MDF). The popular

tribal art of India, Warli art has

been done on the lamp. It was

made in my school's design and

technology workshop. It is a part of

my Tribute to India series of

artwork.

Educational toy –IBDP coursework

One of my first projects of IB Design and Technology was designing an educational toy for children of age

3-5 which teaches them numbers. My toy is based on assembly and disassembly of blocs to teach number

from 1-9. Colored blocs need to be put in the rod of corresponding width and color. The number of the

blocs is same as the number of the rod. For example, there is only one bloc for rod number one, two

blocs for rod number two and so on. The shown design is a 3-D sketch of my design made on Google

Sketch-up Pro. The whole process of designing this toy included research work and visiting primary

schools, conceptual designs, different techniques and evaluation after user trail. Due to the constraints

of the design brief, the actual product was not made.

Green Project- IBDP coursework

Green Design is a part of my IB curriculum for

Design and Technology. I had to use a waste

material and make a product out of it. I chose a

used plastic bottle to make a flower vase. A design

brief and specification was made for the target

market. Research was done on various

environmental concerns like renewable resources

and carbon footprint, life cycle analysis of the

plastic bottle and designs for assembly and

disassembly. After making the product evaluation

was done in form of questionnaires. I chose this

design because disposal of plastics is a major

environmental concern and we should recycle as

much plastic as possible. The flower vase looks

aesthetically pleasing and can be used for gifting

as well as decorating.

The best of paintings come out of boredom!

There is no particular theme to this painting.

However it is a form a 3-D artwork done with

rotring ink on a glossy sheet.

Bon Voyage

LuxuryLuxury is the most evil human desire. We desire the best, regardless, of the

financial statuses. This car was made on a similar thought process. It shows the

luxurious life humans wants. It also highlights the use of metals in most of the

products.

Compression

This painting shows the effect of compression and explosion. The metal

has compressed and exploded into small pieces. There is no specific theme

to this artwork, however it does signify the agitation and frustration of

human mind which explodes similarly when extra pressure is applied to it.

Moksha

Moksha is freedom in Sanskrit. The hard

and wired net has seized the inner soul.

But nothing can suppress the soul of a

free mind. The dove which is symbolic

of freedom has set itself free. The

purple net fabric shows royalty in being

free. Nothing can surpass the beauty of

freedom.

The merger: Man and Technology

The merger of man and technology has

increased their dependence on each

other. However the paradox remains:

Humanity influences technology or

technology influences humanity? This

sculpture conveys the same. The wire of

the mobile phone has circumscribed the

human hand to show how human life has

been encircled by the ever growing

technology. It is hard to come out of the

technology bounded life but one cannot

survive without it either. I was inspired to

make this sculpture because of my own

dependence on technology. As a teenager,

I cannot even imagine one day without

laptops and mobile phones. Therefore to

convey my feelings about the same, I

made this sculpture out of ceramic.

Techman

Techman illustrates the 21st century

man. Each organ in his body has

been replaced by a product that has

some connection to the organs'

function. For example; computer

corresponds brain, loudspeaker

resembles mouth , clock shows the

heart, eyes are replaced by

binoculars and so on. This painting

shows the dependence of humans on

products and technology. As

consumers, humans have consumed

their own body. In this era where

technology overpowers humans, we

need to set ourselves free. This

painting is also a form of surrealism.

I love shoes. I am a shopaholic, but why spend money

when I can design my own shows. Inspired by Indian

tribal art, these shoes beautify the Indian culture.

Another artwork to the tribute to India series.

Also, these shoes are definitely wearable.

Platonism

Platonism is the immortality or the non

death of the soul and or the spirit. This

painting depicts mortality and

immortality. The rocks signify the dead.

The end of life. Whereas the imprinted

hand with colors signify living. The

colors of life which never fade away. The

soul is created by God and it does not

perish when it separates from the body

at death. It will be reunited with the

body at the final resurrection.
