BrochureDescription:

This project project is a brochure for the company/organization/event of my choice. I chose tomake a brochure for a web developer’s conference.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

First, I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator. After that, I wrote up the body copy so that Icould copy it into the InDesign le. Then I found all of the images that I needed for the bro-chure using Google. I also made a background image with a gradient and a line in Illustrator. Then I created a new InDesign le and placed all of these components in the le and arrangedthem in a pleasing manner. A new tool that I used for this project was wrapping text around animage. This is pretty cool, but to fulll the requirements of this project, the text wrap wouldonly work with a PNG le type with a transparent background.

Message:

The message that I want to convey is that there is a developer’s conference. This conference will be a great opportunity to learn about new web technologies and meet other developers.

Audience:

For the audience I chose computer programmers specializing in web development.

Top Thing Learned:

In my rst drafts of the brochure, I had used an orange background throughout the entire bro-chure. Orange is not a color that would necessarily appeal to computer programmers. For thisreason, I had to rethink my color scheme. I learned how important it is to have a color schemethat appeals to your audience.

Color scheme and color names:

Monochromatic, blue

LetterheadDescription:

This project demonstrates the ability to create a letterhead for a company.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

For this project, I used Adobe Illustrator to create the logo, footer and watermark for theletterhead. I then took these images and “placed” them in an Adobe InDesign le. I was thenable to manipulate the images and arrange them to create the letterhead. I followed thesame process for the business card.

Message:

My message is that the products that Rugged Peak sells are strong, durable, and will last fora long time.

Audience:

My audience is extreme outdoors men. The main group of people are middle aged men.

Top Thing Learned:

One of the top things that I learned has to do with the watermark. I learned that, at least forme, I has trouble getting the opacity correct. The watermark would look light onscreen, but

would print darker, so I had to play with it.

Color scheme and color names:

I chose to go with a monochromatic color scheme. I used red as the main color.

 WebpageDescription:

This project is a webpage that is designed around the logo for Perfectly Frosted Bakery. Thepurpose of this webpage is to showcase the logo as well as describe the process behind thedesign of the logo.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

The tools and software that I used were Photoshop and TextWrangler. In Photoshop, I savedmy logo for the web so that the le size was apprpriate. All of the code, including the HTMLand CSS was done in TextWrangler. I wanted to use the exact same color scheme and colorson the webpage that were used in the logo. To accomplish this I used the eyedropper toolin Illustrator to copy the hexadecimal color number of the three colors and use them in myCSS. Also in my CSS, I changed the list-style-image to a small cupcake instead of the defaultcircle. For the border, I was able to change the edges from being square to being rounded byadding a border-radius of 15px to the body. For the header and footer I did the same thing, except that I only had the border-radius be applied to the top left and right corners for theheader and the bottom left and right corners for the footer.

Message:

The message that I wanted to convey with this site is that Perfectly Frosted Bakery is sim-

plistic yet delicious.

Audience:

The audience that I chose was middle- aged mothers.

Top Thing Learned:

The top thing that I learned was that simplicity is better. In order to fulll the requirementsof a color scheme, it is not necessary to have large amounts of every color in that scheme on

your nal production. Rather, it is more appealing to have one or two colors with the other

colors as accent colors.

Color scheme and color hex(s):

I used the triadic color scheme.

MontageDescription:

The purpose of this composition is to relay a spiritual message. The message I wanted to con- vey is that we must not be too quick to judge.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing):

The rst step to this project was deciding upon a theme and a message. Once I had done that,I then searched for and found the images I needed to create the montage. Using Photoshop,I was able to create layer masks and mask the pixels that I needed to, which hid the parts ofeach photo that I didn’t want to use.

Message:

The message that I wanted to convey that everyone is a child of God, and that we shouldn’t betoo quick to judge a person.

Audience:

The audience I chose was people who are quick to judge and form opinions about people.

Top Thing Learned:

The top thing that I learned was using masks in Photoshop. This is quite handy, you can veryeasily manipulate photos, combining them, and adding and taking out pieces of each photothat you don’t want.

Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied:

I used the sponge effect on the building in the background.

Color scheme and color names:

I used the Monochromatic color scheme with green as the color.

Title and Copy Font Name & Category:

For the title and copy, I used the same font: Avenir Next Demi Bold

LogoDescription:

This project was to design 3 logos for the same company of my choice. I chose to make up acompany entitled “Perfectly Frosted Bakery.”

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

The rst thing that I needed to do was to decide on the company, and what Objects I wanted touse to represent that business. Then I went to the Internet to nd images for inspiration. ThenI went to Illustrator to create the logos. In illustrator, I used the different shape tools, and

even added a little texture to the logos.

Message:

I wanted to convey that this bakery has delicious treats, and to get mouths watering.

Audience:

The audience I targeted was middle aged mothers, as they are the family members who typi-cally do the shopping in the household.

Top Thing Learned:

The top thing that I learned actually came from taking votes on people’s favorite logo. Theresults were split right down the middle on the two logos that people voted for (No one votedfor the third one). Except for a few exceptions, the guys that I asked usually liked the dough-nut, and the girls liked the cupcake. The importance of deciding on who your audience will beis crucial. It should be the foundation of everything that you do, and all the decisions that youmake toward the nished logo.

Three Color Scheme and Color Names:

monochromatic: orange  Triadic: Yellow, blue, and red  Complimentary: Blue and orange

Event AdDescription:

This is an event ad for a charity dinner. The purpose of this charity dinner is to raise funds fororphaned sea life.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

For this assignment, the only programs used were Adobe Photoshop (for scanning the image)and Microsoft Word, in which I did all of the design. Skills required for this assignment in-cluded a working knowledge of how to design in Word, including importing and manipulating

images, along with working with text.

Message:

The message that I anted to portray was that sea animals need our help, and that there issomething that we can do.

Audience:

The audience for this ad is grown adults who love animals and want to help them out.

Color scheme and color names:

The color scheme I chose for this ad was monochromatic. I used browns based on the fur ofthe sea lion.

Top Thing Learned:

In my original draft of this poster, I had the image covering the entire page and had addedtransparency to it, as if it were a watermark. I then overlayed the text on top of the imageWhile this was interesting, it did not work the best. I learned that putting test over an image istricky to get right, and in the end I totally changed the design.

Title Font Name & Category:

For the title font I used Charter Black which is a Serif font.

Copy Font Name & Category:

For the body copy I used Avenir Black Oblique which is a Sans Serif font

FlierDescription

This ier is for a Graduate Leadership Conference for those seeking to increase their lead-ership skills. The conference is designed and intended for students that have just graduatedfrom college. With this ier, I attempted to put a circular theme throughout. This includesthe image, text, the logo in the bottom left corner, along with some decorative circles on theheader and footer bars.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills)

The process for this project started out with sketching ideas for the ier layout. Although thenal ier doesn’t look like any of the sketches, elements from the sketches are in the ier, andideas came from different sketches. After the sketches were complete a rough draft of the ier

was created using Adobe InDesign. The rough draft was then taken and critiqued by differentpeople, where their input was noted to improve the ier. After the critiques, the needed im-provements were made, and the nal draft was born

Message.

The message of this poster is that there is a Leadership conference for graduates where theycan learn leadership skills to get ahead in their careers.

Audience

The intended audience is adults who are in their mid 2o’s who have just graduated from col-lege.

Top Thing Learned:

The top thing that I learned was specic to InDesign itself. I learned that when putting textin a circle shape it is difcult to get complete words at the end of a line. In other words, there

were several lines with hyphenated words. This problem required quite a bit of playing with

the font and font size. One other thing that I might mention is that it was difcult to get theshape that I wanted when the text was given to me that I was supposed to use.
