BARATTA PARK COMPETITIONfirst phase@ VOGHERA (PV) [IT] / MARCH 2013 / coll. with MetaMorphosys and G. D. Manzoni

The project competition was about the creation of a new park between two new parcelling plans. The design purpose was to embrace the new project connecting the area and the center of the city to the adjacent countryside through a continuous sinuous green pedestrian path that connects some collective activities in the park, such as sports facilities, a new school and a cultural center.

WORLD WAR I MUSEUM COMPETITIONredevelopment of the former train station area@ CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI (UD) [IT] / MARCH 2013 / coll. with F. Bosacchi, S. Brocchieri and M. Foppiani

The task of the project was to redevelop the area of the former train station, and design a new museum on World War I inside the station. The project site was cut by roads and rails, so the design proposes to unify the area with a new park, where the sole building is the new museum. The museum is thought as an insertion between the old station’s walls. It creates a continuous path through different thematic “slabs” that brings to the walkable roof: a panoramic roof on the mountains where the War took place.

EVOLO 2013 SKYSCRAPER COMPETITIONNYC based magazine utopian competition JANUARY 2013 / collaboration with Giorgio Davide Manzoni, Nadia Bertolino and Emanuele Giorgi

The Evolo Skyscraper competition is an utopian visionary competition. The project is named Quake-scraper.Quake-scraper is anexperimental project that demonstrates that through architecture it is possible to overturn the relationship between man and natural events. It transforms the energy released during earthquakes into electrical energy through piezoelectric technology. The power produced can be shared with a large territory and used for many different activities. It works everyday, because everyday along the earth’s fracture we register some seismic activity, even weak. During extraordinary earthquakes, the quantity of power produced can cover the power supply of the whole city and its surrounding. Moreover the giant tubes inside the earth crack, combined with the tower, are able to take advantage of any kind of other power production renewable method, such as (geo)thermal, wind and solar power. It is a real energy machine!

REUSE OF VIGORELLI MASPES VELODROMEfirst phase@ MILANO [IT] / DECEMBER 2012/ collaboration with P. Coppi (team leader)

The project deals with the reuse of an important site for the sports life of Milan, placed just nearby the new complex of Milano Citylife. The velodrome, once used for important events, is renewed with the creation a circular ring that sorrounds the original structure, hosting a commercial gallery on the ground level and a pedestrian path on the top.The relation with the city is solved with a walkable green roof that retraces the boundary of the block. It creates a new public space dedicated to the renewed arena sheltering the site from the road.

NEW UNIVERSITY CAMPUS COMPETITIONfaculty of veterinary medicine and agriculture@ LODI (LO) [IT] / NOVEMBER 2012/ collaboration with 5+1 AA and I.Delsante

The task was to develop the design result of a previous project placed in the outer part of Lodi, a small city in the Pianura Padana. The project site is on the outskirt of the city where the agricultural-humanized countryside begins. The design process reconfigures the layout of the new university, paying attention to the sun orientation of the site. The general building plan is transformed from a linear distribution to a courtyard type, connected to the shape of the historical agricultural farm of the region’s countryside.

EXHIBITION FROM RESEARCH TO DESIGNselected architects from Tongji University of Shanghai@ TRIENNALE DI MILANO [IT] / SEPTEBER 2012/ collaboration with RIALTO s.r.l. / BUILT

The exhibition collect several projects from architetcs graduated in Tongji Univeristy of Shanghai. The layout of the exhibition enhances the symmetry of the hall through a small stylized house, used as projection room, and through the panels that trace the structure of the ceiling. In this project I’ve particapated to the design of the general layout, to the organization of the exhibition, I’ve produced the render images to verify the design concept, and I took part in the video editing.

RIUSI INDUSTRIALI COMPETITIONcotton artist park / 2ND PRICE@ PONTE SAN PIETRO (BG) [IT] / AUGUST 2012/ collaboration G. D. Manzoni and RIALTO s.r.l.

CREATIVITY - Artistic’s and crafts’ production as an occasion of renovation and site development.PRODUCTION CHAIN - Concentration of creation phases, research studies, Production and selling to decrease the footprint on moving goods and promoting thought circulation.SUSTAINABILITY - Recycle and re-use of materials, alternative energy Production, water recovering cycle, ecologic compensation, recycling material from demolition, creation of green spaces.

FINAL PROJECTREDEVELOPMENT OF THE GASOMETERS AREA IN PAVIA/ with social labs and a vertical farm / 2012Supervisor Prof. Ioanni Delsante

The project is focused on the re-use of an area shut out for a long period from the urban development. The themes of the preexistences, of the urban sign, of the settlement coherence and of the landscape recovery are the fields in which the requalification proposal spaces out, linked also to the urban marketing rules and to the reactivation of flows of ideas and people, potential elements of a new territorial usability. The main proposal is to move undergorund the car traffic, creating new public spaces and providing an easy access for the pedestrian and bikers, giving back to ground level the lost quality. The new social labs for the artistic and communication experimentations assume the role of driving forces for the area, together with the vertical farm, a structure for the cultivation and the selling of agricultural products grown in a controlled environment. The new contemporary reading of the-ex gasholder becomes the new urban landmark, able to link the typical agricultural past with the new low impact productive methods, symbol of a new sustainable development. The design choices are supported by the belief that the identification and the promotion of the historical memory can be carried out only working on the territory, without freezing it, but suggesting a re-interpretation, a new vision, aimed to the nowadays needs. Following these concepts the environmental and cultural values able to assure the citizens the confidence in belonging to an active forward-looking society will emerge.

CONSTRUCTION ORGANIZATIONMIXED USE BUILDING IN PAVIA / 2011/ in collaboration with Mario Genovesi and Lin Sen Prof. M.Morandotti and Prof. S.Pugni

The project concerns the improvement of a previous project in which only the general volume of the building was identified. The previous project was about the rehabilitation of the ex-barracks and military depot beside the San Salvatore church in Pavia. The new design tries to achieve a certain flexibility responding to the fixity of the volume. The idea of flexibility was investigated through the idea of Rem Koolhaas that sees flexibility as the creation of a margin that allows different and even opposite uses of space; of Le Corbusier that made the constructive basis allowing flexibility in the project Domino; of Hertzberger that focuses on the social interpretation of the space through its users.Through these ideas the building came up with a regular steel structure that allows the modulation of the space according to the different need of the users, in a participatory-like planning. The floor distribution is assured with a corridor that makes a loop around the internal court, but changing every floor. Along the corridor are different open spaces designed to be place for the interaction of the different flat owners. Beyond the residential function the building hosts a library in the southern part and offices in the northern part. The ground floor is occupied by retail shops in temporary glass boxes. The mediation between the composition freedom, given to the users, and a pleasant image of the building is obtained through external moving bamboo panels opened or closed according to the needs that represent in symbolic way the vitality of the building.

V.H.O.M. STUDENT COMPETITIONWIEN HOUSE OF MUSIC / 2011/ in collaboration with M.Foppiani and E.Giorgiinternational student competition

The V.H.O.M. design contest proposes to build a music school and a theatre in the northern part of an historical park in the “Ring” of Wien.In order to maintain the actual green area was proposed to lift up the park through a platform accessible from the south with the creation of a new urban covered exposition space from which you can reach the different volumes of the school and the auditorium. The green area that is lifted up is connected also with the buildings in the upper level, giving a new perspective of the whole park.Four volumes, each one dedicated to an important artist for the music history linked to Wien, are framed into the platform connecting the two public levels. In these pavilions are disposed the classrooms, shops and a restaurant. The printed glass coating reflects the internal use of each pavilion. In the central part of the site the auditorium volume dominates amongst the other buildings. Two corten walls shape this volume and their extensions guide to the main entrance. This building is conceived as an overlapping series of ellipses, where the lowest one is the orchestra. The internal structure is repeated also on the façade exalting the concentric shape.

LANDSCAPE DESIGNTICINO HIKING PARK / 2010/ in collaboration with Lorenzo Marioncini and Yao DongProf. T.Cattaneo and Prof. Liu Yuelai

Historically the landscape is meant both as a perceptual, aesthetic and cultural relationship between a natural reality and man, which works out the representation of landscape. As a physical entity where its physical-morphological dimension prevails, from natural elements to settlements structures, from heterogeneous elements by type and function, which correlated, form an organic entity. With this in mind, we developed the idea of a landscape in which man and nature become the undisputed protagonists. We began to consider the creation of a route linking all the different inhomogeneous areas in the project site in a more organized way and took inspiration from the paths of hikers. The path connects five principal subareas linked to different way of experience the landscape, through all the senses and through different body activities.

The project site is at the confluence of Suzhou creek and Huangpu River, in front of Pudong area, the financial district of Shanghai, beside Huangpu Park, the oldest park of Shanghai and at the extreme edge of the Bund, the colonial street on the river. The proposal takes advantage of the municipality plan to transform the busy road of the Bund into a pedestrian way, with the creation of a linear park along the bank of the river. The aim is to continue the new pedestrian street connecting the Huangpu Park to the new parks system along Huangpu River, taking the measure of this street as a dimensional reference, dividing the bridge into different circulation areas both for cyclist and pedestrian. Due to great view of Pudong area, the idea is to create also a place to rest on the bridge, so not only a passerby-bridge.The bridge is a single-span 100 meters long steel arch-bridge, with a wood deck ranging from 15 to 20 meters sustained by inclined cables, and a veil tensile structure in the middle-span to both stabilize the forces and providing a covering for sun as well as rain. The total structural weight is of 295 Kg/m.Before approaching the pre-dimensioning performed with the Straus/Strand 7 software, was conducted preliminary hand-calculation to verify the idea. The pre-dimensioning was performed by trials and errors with the finite-elements calculation method, improving step by step the initial shape, reducing the waste of material and safeguarding the structural behavior.

COMPOSITION 3TOWARDS THE RIVER / 2009/ in collaboration with D.Evangelista, K.Stejskal and F.Zhang Prof. A.Bugatti, Prof. I.Delsante, Prof. C.Berizzi

The project concerns the redevelopment of the ex-barracks Rossani in the western part of Pavia. On a little hill stands the San Salvatore and San Mauro church - one of the historical church of Pavia - that dominates the whole site. The proposal was to create a sort of “chiasm” where the public facilities are interrelated with the residences. The main axis starts from the old church, where the little hill is transformed into a shopping gallery that has on its roof a new public garden. This axis that mainly consists of a linear park connects the shopping facilities to a new plaza on the river, where the two buildings bounding it are dedicated to library and auditorium. In the other direction are the residences that from a urban façade on the northern part along the main street that arrives to the city center are spread into a system of villas immersed in the natural environment of the river. The main aim of the project was to make accessible with a different way of approach the Ticino River, that in this place was “out of limits” for a long part.

“The rapid development of contemporary Chinese architec-

ture and large scale of urbanization in the past few decades

has given architects, architectural educators, theorists and

others a golden opportunity for architectural exploration.

Architecture schools and academic institutions have become

architectural laboratories that lead avant-garde experimen-

tation in architecture. In September and October 2001, an

architecture exhibition named as “TU MU Junge Architektur

aus China” was held in Aedas Gallery in Berlin, Germany,

showcasing the works of Wang Shu, Wang Junyang and

other seven Chinese young architects. The exhibition has

made known to the outside world for the first time a new

generation of Chinese architects as well as architects from

Tongji School.

Eleven years later, fifty works of 27 architects from Tongji

School are now being exhibited in a significant exhibition.

They are leading the wave and pushing the boundaries of

contemporary Chinese architecture”.
