With this portfolio I would like to express my strong interest in becoming a part of your company. My name is Ira Garbuz, I am originally from Ukraine, but now I live in Berlin, pursuing my Master’s Degree.

I study International Marketing Management at Berlin School of Economics and Law; my Bachelor’s Degree I got in International Economics and Management at Kyiv National Economic University. At both programs I have been showing good academic results, getting on average more than 90%.

Having worked at an international youth NGO “European Youth Parliament” (EYP) as a Member and later as a Head of PR Department, I can firmly state that I fell in love with what I did and decided to continue following this path. At this organisation I improved my skills in the sphere of PR, marketing, advertising, design as well as my leadership skills. Marketing and PR became my everyday hobby, which I decided to bring to a higher level by getting my Master’s Degree and professional experience in Berlin.

I believe that I am a person with good combination of creativity and analytical skills: I always try to make things creative, unique, attractive and to think out of the box; at the same time I am keen on precise analysis and I always give sufficient attention to numerical data. However, I consider my biggest strength to be an ability to learn fast. I believe that fair criticism and feedback are the best tools for improvement, thus I am always open for new suggestions and I am ready to work hard to meet the expectations.

All in all, I believe that with the set of skills I have, I could make a good addition to your team. European Youth Parliament (EYP) was founded in 1987 as a pan-European school project, which spreads and promotes the idea of united Europe and European citizenship. Over the past 20 years, the organisation has been undergoing the processes of expansion and enlargement; now it functions in 39 European countries. It successfully operates in the EU member states, and also in the neighbouring countries. EYP National Committees also conduct dozens of national and regional conferences and forums on an annual basis. European Youth Parliament aims to provide youth with unique learning experience. International Youth NGO “European Youth Parliament – Ukraine” (EYP Ukraine) represents one of 42 National Committees of the European Youth Parliament. During its lifetime, EYP-Ukraine has acquired professional expertise and valuable experience in organizing different kinds of youth events: regional and international sessions, national conferences, trainings and workshops etc. Moreover, EYP-Ukraine has been a key partner in organisation of UN Youth Summits on Millennium Development Goals in Ukraine as well as a key youth partner of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine as it pertains to the organisation of Europe Days in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine. Being first a member of PR Department, later being elected as a Head of PR Department, I was responsible for press releases of events, promotion of events, launch of a new web-site, PR strategy development and implementation, PR projects coordination, etc. I worked with media to spread the word about organisation, focused more on new ways of attracting youth’s attention, addressed new sponsors and set new partnerships. All in all this experience gave me first of all an ability to work independently, to make decisions, to define weak and strong points, it tought me how to represent organisation, how to cooperate with partners and how to set correct goals.

Position: Project Manager

The 8th National Selection Conference of EYP-Ukraine gathered more than 120 participants from all over Ukraine and Europe to discuss issues, united under the umbrella topic „Europe for the people, by the people“. As a Project Manager I was fully responsible for organization of the Conference, what mostly included:- Fundraising. The budget of the Conference was 15000 EUR, what covered accommodation for 5 days, food, transfers, etc. During a year before the Conference I was contacting different sponsors and partners, businesses and corporations. As a result, I managed to set some long-term and productive partnerships with different organisations and institutions such as British and French Embassies. - PR. PR campaign started one year before the event and targeted mainly youth (17-23 y.o.) as future participants. Through social media and cooperation with EYP representations in different countries, more than 120 participants were gathered. All booklets, stickers and leaflets were designed by myself- HR. I also kept track on the participants’ database starting from a call for participants, continuing with selection of participants and finishing with organising the last transfer for everyone. My organisers’ team consisted of 10 bright individuals, who helped me to go through the whole process.

What I gained from this project:- Valuable management experience. It was the biggest project for me for which I was fully responsible from the very beginning till end.- Practical experience in many useful spheres, such as PR, HR, fundraising, international cooperation, cooperation with partners, etc.- Stress management skills. At the beginning the Conference was supposed to be held in February, however due to protests and extraordinary situation in Ukraine in February 2014, the Conference was decided to be postponed till August. As a Project Manager I could not have stayed unstressed when postponing everything a week before the event , but it gave me very good stress-resistance, fast decision-making skills and generally made me a bit stronger personality.

With the 14th European Football Championship that took place in the Eastern European countries of Ukraine and Poland, the EU took this opportunity to inform and educate on its internal reforms and external support. The Delegation of the European Union in Ukraine, Kyiv city administration as well as numerous stakeholders from the Ukrainian businesses and NGOs decided to jointly support the initiative. These efforts resulted in the European Village - public event, which lasted for 30 days starting June 2, 2012 in downtown Kyiv. During 30 days numerous stands, each dedicated to one topic (e.g. “health”, “traditions”, “workshops”,etc.) as well as an exhibition hall and mini stadium, were working hard from morning till late evening with the help of volunteers.

My role at this event was Volunteer Coordinator; among my responsibilities were: - Volunteers Enrolment (starting from promotion of a call for volunteers via social media channels and finishing with selecting volunteers) - Volunteers Training- Volunteers Support and Coordination- Management of the stands

During this month I gained valuable skills on HR management, leadership skills, learnt how to motivate myself and encourage other people.

VLISA is a small size enterprise that was found in 2006 in Kyiv. It operates as a chain of small and middle size supermarkets in different parts of Kyiv.

As a manager assistant I was responsible for wide variety of tasks: formation of assortment taking into account needs of each location, communication with partners, development of marketing strategies, promotion of products, special offers development, sales analysis, development of recommendations on sales and services, etc.

During more than two years at this position I gained valuable insights into legal and economic environment of a complany, attended workshops and trainings on employees motivation, change management, time management, leant how to work with different types of partners and clients.

The DAAD is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. Every year DAAD gives scholarships to the brightest candidates to obtain Master’s or PHD Degree in Germany.

Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. It is a registered association and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships. The DAAD supports the internationalisation of German universities, promotes German studies and the German language abroad, assists developing countries in establishing effective universities and advises decision makers on matters of cultural, education and development policy.

I was awarded a scholarship of ERP Program for a Master’s Program for a period 2014-2016. ERP Study Scholarships are sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) to provide foreign graduates of Economics and Business Administration with opportunities to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course at a state (public) or state-recognised German higher education institution and to gain a degree in Germany.
