• Demography – The statistical study of human populations.

• Population – The total number of people living in a given area.

• Population Density – The average number of people living in a given area. (persons per square mile)– Arithmetic v. Physiologic

• Birthrate – Number of live births each year per 1,000 people.

• Death Rate – Number of deaths each year per 1,000 people.

• Immigrants – People who move into a country• Emigrants – People who leave a country to live

elsewhere

• Pull Factors – Things that attract people to live in a new location.

• Push Factors – Things cause people to leave a location.

• Urbanization – the movement of people from the countryside to cities (growth of cities)
