Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) programme in Architectural Design

The Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) programme in Architectural Design aims to provide essential training based on logical-formal, historical, aesthetic, constructive, technological and representational architectural knowledge. Architectural projects have different contexts and scales of application: cities, landscapes, buildings, built environments, interiors. The training programme involves constantly tackling the complexity of the processes of transformation of the built environment in contemporary settlement contexts. The studies include all the scientific, humanities and arts disciplines that characterise the knowledge, tools, skills and abilities of an architect. The programme centres on the architectural project as an integration and synthesis of the various architectural disciplines in the humanities, arts and technical-scientific realm and of those that supplement and enrich knowledge in this field, promoting synergy between laboratories and courses. The studies are completed by a compulsory traineeship. At the Piacenza Campus, after a first foundation year in common with that of the other two campuses of the Politecnico di Milano, the second and third year introduce and develop topics that characterise the specific cultural project of the Campus: design of open spaces, sustainability of the built environment and relationship between architecture and landscape. The graduate in Architectural Design has career opportunities institutions and bodies, public and private companies, professional firms and design companies. Graduates in Architectural Design, after passing the State Professional Exam, can enrol with the Order Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservationists, in section B, architecture sector, with the qualification of Junior Architect. Graduates in Architectural Design possess the prerequisite credits for admission to Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) programmes aimed at training architects and architectural engineers, in accordance with the 85/384/EEC directive. Graduates can also access 1st level Master courses.

Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) Programme in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design taught in English

The Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) Programme in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design supplements the scientific skills and techniques typical of the polytechnic studies in Architecture with those of landscape design and agricultural sciences. Oriented towards training highly-skilled professionals in the specific fields of Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design, it provides a training profile able to tackle the issues of architectural and urban composition in relation to those of landscape design, with particular attention to transformation of open spaces and infrastructures. The programme trains a design architect with a high degree of preparation in environmental sciences and technologies, with expertise focused on sustainable transformation projects. The programme in fact provides solid training in the knowledge, design and management of complex and inter-scalar operations, attentive to the ratio between “built” and “natural” resources. The technical and scientific skills proposed adequately respond to the demand for an extended framework at the international level. In support of the internationalisation project launched, the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) programme envisages a number of parallel initiatives in the two semesters such as workshops, international summer schools and study trips. The Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) programme in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design complies with the European Directive 2013/55 concerning the recognition of professional qualifications. The graduate corresponds to a figure able to perform management functions in public or private institutions and organizations and in the professions, both independently as well as in professional practices and design companies.Graduates in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design may take the State Professional Examination for enrolment in the Professional Order of Architects (for graduates in class LM-4 it is possible to register in Section A, Sector A - Architecture, B - Land Planning, C - Landscaping, D - Preservation of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage). After having taken the state professional exam, they may practice the profession of Architect in the Member States of the European Community (EU Official Journal No. 2004/C 322/02 of 29/12/2004). Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) Programme in Mechanical Engineering

The Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) Programme in Mechanical Engineering trains engineers able to handle the planning, production and management of products, technological processes and industrial systems; then graduates able to work professionally in all aspects of industrial engineering. In particular during the first two years of the Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) Programme in Mechanical Engineering, students receive a solid technical and scientific foundation as well as economic and application skills. This preparation is completed in the third year of the Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science, in the “preparatory” and “professional” specializations) and in the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science), with the acquisition of more specialist knowledge in order to perform professional activities. At the Piacenza Campus, the first and second year of the Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) programme have courses in common with those offered at the Milano Bovisa Campus, as is the third year in common with the “Preparatory for the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science)” specialization. The third year with professional specialization in “Production Machinery and Equipment” is only available at the Piacenza Campus. The “Preparatory for the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science)” specialization envisages courses that allow direct access to the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) in Mechanical Engineering. The “Production Machinery and Equipment” specialization envisages courses facilitating entry into the job market. The courses envisaged in the third year complete the basic training with content in the field of mechanical and energy systems, logistics and industrial systems and machining systems. The study plan is characterised by the presence of a significant compulsory traineeship to be carried out in a company.Graduates are trained to be able to design mechanical systems from a functional, constructive and energetic point of view, and design the layout, management and use of plant machinery. On passing the State Professional Examination, Mechanical Engineering Graduates with a Bachelor of Science can register in the Order of Engineers (section B). Subject to academic curriculum evaluation, graduates can continue their studies in sectors related to Mechanical Engineering. Graduates can also access 1st level Master courses.

Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) Programme in Energy Engineering (“Renewables and Environmental Sustainability – RES” track) taught in English

Eni contributes to the realization of this Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) Programme

Energy engineering is the sector of industrial engineering which deals with designing and managing energy plants and their components. Processes, plants, and single devices are analysed pursuing multiple objectives: not just functionality, reliability, profitability, safety and good performances, but also an intelligent use of resources and a low environmental impact. In this context, an increasingly important role is played by energy technologies for exploiting renewable resources and for reducing the environmental impact of fossil fuels. The requested professional figure in order to achieve these objectives must combine a solid knowledge of energy conversion processes with the mastery of the mathematical instruments necessary to optimise these and the ability to evaluate their sustainability. The energy engineer’s attention towards a scientific and technological evolution which respects the Environment is a fundamental ingredient of sustainable energy and industrial policies – in turn essential in order to guarantee an increasing and balanced wellbeing to humanity. The “Renewables and Environmental Sustainability – RES” track delivered at the Piacenza Campus provides a particular training programme that aims to train professionals with skills common to Energy and Environmental issues: clean and safe energy; sustainability; “smart” transport; efficient use of energy and materials; sustainability of bio-resources.The RES energy engineer acquires in-depth knowledge of: operating principles, technologies and management procedures of low carbon and low impact systems; principles of technical/economic calibration of energy systems; design and use of process analysis tools; multidisciplinary project management; scenario analyses, impact assessments, sustainability assessments.
