• On the 15th of September 2012 a new act was passed through parliament called the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011
• This act says that each area should have a Police and Crime Commissioner
• This means we will not have Police Authorities any more. There job was to make sure we have the right police force in every area and that they are doing a good job
• This will now be the job of the Police and Crime Commissioner
Why is this happening?
The coalition government thinks that local people should decide what happens where they live.
This means you can vote on who the Police and Crime Commissioner should be and get involved in what they do
They also think that having one person to do this job will make things easier to get things done
The job of the Police and Crime Commissioner is….
Work out what money we have to spend on the police and what we should spend it on.
Make sure we have the right things in place to make sure the police are the best that they can be
Write a 5 year plan about what the police should be doing about crime
The job of the Police and Crime Commissioner is….
Make sure the police constable is doing there job well.
Be in charge of the money the government gives areas for community safety and pots of money to stop crime

They will work with other people whose job it is to keep people safe and stop crime
