Polaris Motion has recently introduced new tech-nologies that support the control of multiple Galvo scanners. Up to Six XY Galvo scanners may be con-trolled simultaneously using a single Polaris motion controller.

Multiple Galvo scanner control is achieved using Polaris’ CAD/CAM machine control software pack-age or by loading a G-code part file with Motion-Tools or with a client application. Each laser Galvo scanner creates a duplicate of the specified part file, increasing productivity by as much as 6 times.

The beam of one laser source may be split and de-livered to each laser Galvo scanner, or multiple laser sources may be used. Polaris Motion laser trigger logic is used to enable and trigger each laser.

F-theta lens barrel-pincushion distortion compen-sation is provided individually for each Galvo scan-ner. A grid marking calibration process is conduct-ed for each Galvo scanner and the data is loaded into compensation tables. By using our method, scanning areas with better than micron accuracy are easily achieved.

Because typical processes require sub-micron accuracy, off-set compensation among the Galvo scanners is implemented. For each Galvo scanner, the ability to apply a displacement and a rotation offset is provided. These values are determined dur-ing calibration and applied during configuration.

By applying lens distortion compensation and off-set compensation for each of the Galvo scan-ners, users are able to meet their required specifica-tions while benefitting from a large productivity increase.

Capabilities• Up to 6 Galvo scanners per controller• Many laser triggering schemes• Multi-scanner plus Infinite field of view (IFOV)• F-Theta lens distortion correction• Displacement and rotation off-set correction
