Polar Continental Shelf Program (PCSP or “Polar Shelf”)
Established in the 1930’s, the Geological Survey of Canada’s Technical Field Support Services (TFSS) was added to PCSP as the equipment business line in 2007. TFSS provides the equipment for PCSP’s Arctic logistics science clients as well as many others across Canada.
Established in 1958, the Arctic logistics business line is mandated through the Resources and Technical Surveys Act (1994) to: “coordinate logistics support and provide related assistance for the purposes of advancing scientific knowledge of the Arctic region and contribute to the exercise of Canada's sovereignty in that region and its adjacent waters.” (para. 8(1)).

Has pre-approved access to PCSP’s logistics support in the Arctic Has preferential access to PCSP’s ATC expansion (140 beds) at the Resolute
facility (pays 40% of PCSP’s annual facility operating costs) Has pre-positioned equipment at PCSP’s facility in Resolute Single point of contact for access to the program is Canadian Army
Doctrine and Training Centre (CADTC) 3rd Canadian Division Support Group (3CDSG) tasked to provide support to
CADTC (and PCSP) for delivery of CAF ATC program on the ground in Resolute
Program runs on a two-year planning cycle (projects must be approved two years in advance)

DND – PCSP Collaboration: Benefits Whole of Government approach
Optimized use of existing federal infrastructure Extend the facility operating season and increase the capacity of the
facility, thus increasing the level of support available to scientists Joint effort on issues such as facilities management and waste
management
Building positive relationships with communities in the North Leveraging of expertise/strengths: logistics, communications,
shipping
Bottom line: Greater capability at less cost and faster
