Our very clever Chess team participated in the NSW finals on Friday afternoon in Sydney. Mrs McCabe and Mrs Gemmell have report-ed that the students gave it their all on the day and managed to pull off some impressive victories. The boys played 7 games of Chess each on the day and although they did not place, they were a competitive group. The individual game wins included Youngmin winning 2.5 games, Elliot and Ben both winning 3 games, James won 2 of his 7 games and Toby won 4 of his 7 games. All students involved should be very proud of their achievement.

BUSY TERM 4As mentioned in the first newsletter of this term, there’s a lot going on in Term 4. This week we have Stage 3 at their Surf Fun program whilst the Aboriginal Mentoring program continues today. Later in the week we have the band recruitment session, a cricket clinic and the PSSA Ball games carnival. Our Children’s University participants will all be graduating tomorrow evening from the University of Newcastle with Mrs Young and Mrs Lawson supporting them. Congratulations to all students for the hard work that it has taken on top of your regular lessons!

EXTERNAL VALIDATION (EV)Tomorrow our school has a panel from the Department of Education here to review our submission against the Schools Excellence Framework. The Framework describes 14 elements across three domains which define the core business of excellent schools in three stages. Each year, schools will assess their practices against the Framework to inform their school plans and annual reports. The description of excellence in the Framework supports schools as they engage their communities in the development of a shared vision, the identification of strategic priorities, and the ongoing tracking of progress towards them. The panel will meet with our EV submis-sion team of myself, Mrs Young, Mr Johnston & Miss Nicholson. We will share the findings of this process in the coming week.

2019 NSW POLICE CHILD SAFETY HANDBOOKThe NSW Police have recently released their high quality safety resource with a new online version that in-cludes updated safety content. We urge all parents and carers to download this latest edition for their device and discuss the safety content with your children. Final decisions regarding class placements will be made by the school executive staff and will not be con-firmed until the end of Week 1 of the 2020 school year. The closing date for specific requests for 2020 is Friday 8 November 2019. KINDERGARTEN TRANSITIONA gentle reminder that if you have a child, family relative, neighbour, friend etc. who intends to be enrolled for Kindergarten 2020 then you need to do that as soon as possible as our transition program is now into its final two weeks. It is absolutely essential that all 2020 Kindergarten children have their enrolment applications and all supporting documentation to the office ASAPMr Scott Campbell - Principal

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING (PBL)PBL is a school wide behaviour initiative that encourages positive behaviour from all students. The program aims to recognise and reward students who consistently uphold our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. These rules will be taught during PBL lessons in class and then reinforced in the playground. Each fortnight teachers will be focussing on each of the three values. This fortnight our PBL focus is the bottom playground.

TERM 4 REWARDS DAYOur final PBL Rewards Day for the year will be on Friday 13 December. Student will be earning Kan-Doo stickers throughout the term that they can use on the day for a rage of rewards that are on offer. Our Term 4 Rewards Menu is attached and all rewards on offer this term are based on student feedback about what awards they would like to participate in. Wiseberry Kariong will be sponsoring Rewards Day again this term and hosting our major reward for Term 4. We’re looking forward to another great term and celebrating our student’s PBL success.Mr Aaron Johnston (Coordinator)

BAND EXPERIENCE SESSION & PARENT INFORMATION NIGHTThe Conservatorium of Music is running a Band Experience session in the school Hall on Thursday 31 October. The session will run from 1:30pm-2:30pm. CENTRAL COAST CHORAL FESTIVALA huge congratulations to students who performed on Wednesday 23 October at The Art House. Students in the Choral Festival Choir have been coming to rehearsals each week since the beginning of the year. They have been working so hard to learn a wide range of songs, some that are in different languages. All your hard work, dedication and practise paid off. You sounded absolute-ly amazing and we are both so proud of you all. It was wonderful to see you all shine on Wednesday night. Mrs Roberts and Mrs CahillPrimary Choir Teachers LIBRARY NEWSThis term in Library we are focusing on sharing our favourite books and series. Research shows that when students are involved in choosing their own books their interest and love of reading increases. However, some students find it overwhelm-ing when faced with so many choices. Each week, in collaborative library sessions, we are encouraging students to talk to their peers in small groups about the books they have read and enjoyed. The aim is to develop a sense of sharing and love of literature, libraries and reading for pleasure.

Returning BooksAs the year draws to an end, I am beginning to make preparations for the annual Library Stocktake. Week 6 will be the last week of borrowing and I will expect all books to be re-turned during your child’s library lesson in Week 7.This Term, I will issue weekly overdue notices and ask that you please help your child to find

and return any overdue books. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding a misplaced or lost book. In some instances, a small replacement fee may be required to assist with the purchase of a new copy of the book. Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Happy Reading!Jodie McCabeTeacher Librarian CHESS NEWSCongratulations to the Chess Team. Last Friday, 25 October, the Chess team represented our school at the State Finals of the Interschool Chess Competition, after coming first in the Semi Finals in August. This was a huge achievement, with only 17 schools qualifying for the Finals. The team showed exemplary sportsmanship and fair play and it was wonderful to see how well they supported each other throughout the event. Does your child enjoy playing Chess? There are a number of Chess tournaments, held on a Saturday & Sun-day, sessions are run by the Sydney Academy of Chess. Please find more information at the end of this week’s newsletter.Jodie McCabe & Kay Gemmell (Chess Coordinators)

Some comments from the boys about the day:“Competition was five times harder than the last tournaments” James“Our team did an amazing effort to get into States” Toby“We didn’t go there to win, but we played well and this came down to our training from our Coach, Rod” Elliot
