ine/perienced yo.ng settler na!ed ho!as hen he falls

o*er"oard, "efriending hi! in the process%

In the 2Ne 3orld2, Pocahontas, $hief Pohatan4s da.ghter,

learns to her dis!ay that her father thins she sho.ld !arry

oco.!, one of his finest arriors% B.t tho.gh he is handso!e

and a fine arrior, Pocahontas does not lo*e hi!, feeling he is

far too serio.s% his is e!phasied "y a scene shoing se*eral

children trying to play ith hi!, hile he stalartly ignores

the!% 'he ass the ad*ice fro! the taling tree spirit na!edrand!other 3illo% rand!other 3illo tells Pocahontas

to listen to her heart and she !ay .nderstand%

spend ti!e together, ith Pocahontas teaching &ohn to loo at

the orld in a different ay, and to not thin of people ho are

different as 4sa*ages4% Bac at the settle!ent, Pohatan has

are spotted% o*ernor +atcliffe ass.!es that it is an a!".sh,

and one of the arriors is shot% he arriors retreat, and

Pohatan declares that the hite !en are dangero.s and thatno one sho.ld go near the!%

fe days later, &ohn and Pocahontas !eet again, d.ring

hich &ohn learns that there is no gold in the land% hey agree

to !eet at rand!other 3illo4s glade again that night%

3hen Pocahontas ret.rns to her *illage, she finds that

arriors fro! neigh"oring tri"es ha*e arri*ed to help

Pohatan fight the settlers% Bac at the English fort, &ohn tells

+atcliffe there is no gold in the land, hich +atcliffe does not

"elie*e% hining that the nati*es ha*e hidden the gold for

the!sel*es, he declares that they ill eli!inate the! all%

hat night, Pocahontas4 "est friend Nao!a catches her

sneaing off and infor!s oco.! that she has gone%

eanhile, &ohn sneas o.t of the fort, and +atcliffe orders

ho!as to follo hi!% Pocahontas and &ohn !eet in the glade,

e/ec.ted% Before Pohatan can strie, Pocahontas thros

herself o*er &ohn, telling hi! that she lo*es &ohn and that

Pohatan !.st see here the path of hatred has "ro.ght the!,

asing hi! to choose his on path% Pohatan loers his cl."and orders &ohn freed% +atcliffe orders the settlers to fire

he settlers t.rn on +atcliffe, capt.ring hi! and sending hi!

!edical treat!ent if he is to s.r*i*e% Pocahontas and her

people arri*e to see the! off, and &ohn and Pocahontas "id
