Pneumatic Impact Treatment
PITEC - the leading experts for HFMI & Fatigue-Improvment
PIT achieves either a high material saving potential or a significant increase in the fatigue-life of your products and facilitiesand this with less cost and at a higher level of reproducibility than conventional methods such as grinding,
TIG dressing, shot peening or post weld heat treatment.
A PIT treatment is just needed at the Hot-Spots of a construction.
PIT is the leading HFMI-System which…(HFMI = High Frequency Mechanical Impact)
a) …achieves a geometrical optimization of the notch at the weld toe
b) …overlays the tensile stresses at the surface with high compressive stresses
The result is a significant enhancement of the fatigue strength or fatigue life.

PIT vs. other methods
The comparison with other methods shows the high technical and economical potential of Pneumatic Impact Treatment (PIT) in an impressive way.

HFMI-much more than „just“a higher frequency
In October 2008, PITEC was founded in HeudorfThanks to state-of-the-art compressed air technology, the PIT system is not only lighter and cheaper than UIT, but also very practical and efficient thanks to the UIT experience of the PIT team.
In October 2018 acquire Hermann Fliess GmbH & Co the patent and namingrights of PITEC and establishes PITEC Deutschland GmbH. In order toexploit synergies, for example, in the common strength with regard to higher-strength steels.
The PIT effects Your benefits
• Substantially increased vibration resistance
• Prevention and/or avoidance of fatigue damage
• Also effective with retroactive use• Substantially more efficient than
conventional methods• Reduction of shrinking stress• Specific introduction of high residual
compressive stress
• Higher & more sustainable quality• Great lightweight construction potential• Better system availability, including on
existing systems• Substantial cost and time savings• Reduction and/or avoidance of warping• Prevention of stress corrosion• Increased safety

PIT for repairs
We see repeatedly in research projects and industrial applications that PIT also achieves multiple prolongation of remaining lifespan.
If fatigue damage occurs in part of a machine or system…
a PIT-supported repair:
➢ the component is shut down, the crack points and the repair welded➢ the top layer of the repair seam is then treated with little effort using PIT➢ on a symmetrical component the opposite side, which has not yet cracked, is also treated
with PIT as a preventative measure
The remaining lifespan after this repair is generally much longer than the new component would have achieved without PIT.
a standard repair:
➢ the component is shut down, the crack pointed and the repair welded➢ however the opposite side of a symmetrical components will crack very soon as this side is
also ‘fatigued’.➢ because it can take a while until the second crack happens, depending on the load,
operation starts again and this costly procedure is repeated when the 2nd crack has formed.
=> The remaining lifespan after this kind of repair is generally ~50% of the new component
Our long time experience and the high efficiency of our PIT Systems allows us
to be the leading supplier of HFMI technology in this moment.
