This is an introductory course on Ikebana, Japanese flower arrangement. While there are several schools of Ikebana, we will be practicing the Ikenobo, the original school. Students will study a brief history of Ikebana and learn to arrange flowers. $65
Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture

Introducing children to the fun and exciting world of engineering though Lego construction. Campers will explore the use of mechanical lifts, nets, drills, ramps, and more in partnership with fellow participants. Experimenting with power systems, sequence and control, pressure prototyping, kinetic and potential energy was never this much fun!

Campers will be challenged to use science, engineering, problem solving, critical thinking skills and ingenuity to solve a variety of challenges using Lego systems that include solar power, simple machines, pneumatics and more. Campers will explore the world of sequence, logic and physics through design builds and real world challenges. The end of the week will culminate with an introduction to Lego Mindstorm robotics and a showcase for parents. Spaces are limited.
Using the LEGO Mindstorms, campers will work in teams, learning to build and program robots. Teams will be challenged to solve re-al-world problems with in both cooperative and competitive challenges. The week will culminate with a grand challenge designed to showcase the ingenuity and engineering skills of the campers!

Students will spend 5 days exploring STEM related careers in aviation. Explorations include• The building of an electric powered aircraft capable of carrying cargo• Field trips too FAA air traffic control facilities• Flight simulator time and the effects the weather has on flight.
Jim Gleich has been involved with theatre for many years and has intensely studied the art of theatrical/stage combat. These are specialized techniques designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. Campers will be learning the basic skills of hand-to-hand combat, rolling, simple falls, choreography notation analysis, stage combat history, and introduction to single sword techniques. All students will perform their class fight each day.
Students will learn how to create graphic artifacts to be used in animation; the basic elements of animation software including timelines, frames, key frames, the stage, and drawing tools andmore. Each day will begin with a brief discussion regarding a woman or group that is or has been deeply involved with technology.

Theatrical Stage Combat Camp for High School and College Athletes, Dancers, and ActorsHigh School and College August 4 - 8 4:15 - 6:15 p.m.Instructor: Jim Gleich PSU: Silver Hall Dance Room
These are specialized techniques designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. The term is also used informally to describe fight choreography for film and television. It is a common field of study for actors and dancers and is closely related to the practice of stunts. Athletes are also finding that this practice fine tunes their skills.
