CCEA Executive BoardSeat 3A (2-year term)

Scott A. MillerJust as many of

you had, I relocatedto Las Vegas fromsomewhere else. When I arrived here4 years ago, I madesure to sign myunion card. This is

because I hold a strong belief inUnions and the power of unity. Anidea that I’m sure I share with manyother members.

Having been an active memberof my Union in NYC, I see how ourAssociation stands in stark contrastto the one I left. Our Union needs tomore aggressively address thepriorities of our members. As yourExecutive Board Representative, Iwill hold our leadershipaccountable to you.

I know what a strong Unionlooks like, and I have anunderstanding of what it takes tomake a strong Association. We needto see ourselves as the Unionrepresenting the 5th largest SchoolDistrict in the Nation. I think wecan do better.

CCEA Executive BoardSeat 2A (2-year term)

Wanda KeithMy name is

Wanda Keith, andI’m running forExecutive BoardSeat 2A. I havebeen a classroomteacher as well asan ELL Specialist.

I am well aware of thedifficulties that face teachers here inSouthern Nevada. We face multiplepressures from federal governmentmandates, parents, andadministrators alike. I will work tochange that in the Clark CountySchool District.

The most important function ofyour Executive Board representativeis to keep members informed aboutcurrent issues and meet withcolleagues about their concerns, and to be the strongest voice in theroom. I am eager to visit thedifferent schools where ourmembers teach, and make this arank and file association where alleducators have a place.

Vote for Wanda if this is the typeof bond you want with yourrepresentative!

CCEA Executive BoardSeat 2A (2-year term)

Angie SullivanThe CCEA

Teacher’sAssociation is thevehicle to exerciseinfluenceregarding schoolmatters. Withoutthe Union, teacher

issues will not be taken seriously.Issues such as:1. Wages2. Retirement3. Benefits4. Prep Time5. Class Size Reduction6. Fiscal Responsibility7. No Mandates without FundingI will fight for teachers. Please consider my re-election

CCEA Executive BoardSeat 3A (2-year term)

Cindy K. JohnsonI believe that

all teachers shouldbe members oftheir professionalorganization. Tothat end I haveactivelyparticipated in the

New Hire Orientations for the last19 years, actively recruitedmembers at my work site, served asa building representative for 20years, and participated in numerousmarches and walks.

It was during my four years onthe negotiations team, and now inmy work with the Teaching andLearning Conditions Team that Ihave come to realize thatmembership is not enough. Weneed ACTIVE members. We needmembers to vote in elections, tobecome knowledgeable aboutissues in their schools and in theircommunity that effect theirprofession. I have spoken to toomany teachers that need help withproblems in their schools and don’tcall CCEA for help because theydidn’t know who to talk to.

I think CCEA has done atremendous job for

CCEA TIP Coordinating Council Members (2-year term)

Leola BrinkerMy experience has been

that of serving as a memberon interview teams toendorse candidates thatsupport the educationalissues that are important to

CCEA members.I am asking you to give me the

opportunity to serve you once again in thiscapacity. Thank you for voting for LeolaBrinker.

Cynthia BustosDear Colleagues:I have worked on the

TIP Council and GRCommittee for the past twoyears. It has been fun, exciting and energizing.

During this time I worked with council andcommittee members to help get voterregistration forms out, interviewedprospective candidates to determine if theirviews on public education are in line withour union views and finally getting ourmembers involved in the political processthrough volunteerism and voting. I wouldappreciate your vote so that I may continueto serve educators and the children in ourschool system by working to help elect thosecandidates that are willing to do the most forthe public education system! Please give meyour vote for the TIP Council. I appreciateyour support.

Cynthia Bustos

Vikki CourtneyMy name is Vikki

Courtney. I am asking foryour vote to be re-elected tothe TIP Board. As a memberof the TIP Board for the lastfour years, it has been my

job to interview and recommend to themembers those candidates who supporteducators and education in Clark County.Eighty-three percent of the TIP endorsedcandidates were elected to office this year.Through these elected officials our voices willbe heard. Please allow me to continue toimprove your life and the lives of alleducators hi Clark County.

Vote Vikki Courtney for TIP!

Roy M. MendezHello my name is Roy

M Mendez and I feel verypassionate about thepolitical process in thiscountry. Interviewingcandidates for the purpose

of endorsing them is the best way that I amable to serve the members of ourAssociation. It is for these reasons that Iwould like the opportunity to serve you foranother term on the CCEA TIP CoordinatingCouncil. I feel that my experience on TIP thisfirst term will help the process of endorsingcandidates in the 2008 elections. I havelearned a valuable lesson while serving onTIP and that is that candidates are neitherRepublican nor Democrats, but pro-education. This is how I feel about endorsingcandidates for public office. Remember, tocast your vote in our Association’s electionsbecause you help to shape the future ofeducation. I would appreciate your vote inFebruary, thank you.

Patsy TaylorPatsy Taylor has served

one and one-half terms as amember of the TIP Council. She has been a member ofCCEA for 27 years and a TIPcontributor for nearly as

long.Patsy served last year as Chair of the

Government Relations Committee and is a Co-Chair this year. She worked on severalcampaigns for endorsed candidates thiselection cycle.

Jim ThompsonEveryone who ever runs

for elective office says nicethings about teachers andpublic education. But whenthe campaign is over and it’stime for these officials to

actually follow through, many go missing inaction. Meanwhile anyone working for theCCSD knows we have problems that moneywon’t solve, but we also have problems thatonly more funding for education will solve. My goal as a member of the TIP CoordinatingCouncil will be to move past the candidates’sweet nothings (after 13 years in the district Ihave a well developed BS detector) and onlysupport those applicants who are committedto spending more money for education. I’mlooking forward to the day when Nevada hasmoved well up from being the 49th state foreducation funding. Please vote for JimThompson.
