    Material Data

The data in ormation contained on this Web site is derivedrom many di erent sources. While Central Steel and Wire

Company has taken all reasonable steps to ensure that allthe in ormation is rom a reliable and reputable source and isaccurate, it accepts no liability or responsibility or any actsor omissions, done or omitted in reliance, in whole or in part,

on the in ormation. Central Steel and Wire Company takesno responsibility or the manner in which this in ormation issubsequently used.

These fgures show the APPROXIMATE ranges omechanical properties and cannot be used as a basis oacceptance or rejection o material.

They are NOT GUARANTEED and are given only as anindication o what may be expected and should under nocircumstances be used in speci ying the raw materials. Itmust not be assumed that these properties will be obtainedin all cases, as they vary widely with permissible variationsin analysis, size o section, rolling conditions, grain size,

and methods o heat treatment. Dependable mechanical properties can only be obtained

through care ully controlled heat treatment or specialprocessing.

    FREE MACHINING PLATES

FM 45 Medium Carbon Free MachiningA medium carbon, high manganese plate which is produced from killed steel to promote unifor-

mity. The chemical content is balanced to permit high surface hardness by flame or induction hard-ening and better response to standard quench and temper heat treatments than is possible withSAE 1045 steel. The free machining characteristics of this plate allow the user to employ speedsand feeds up to 85% of those recommended for 1212 and obtain a superior finish. Free machin-ing analyses are inherently less sound than non-free machining grades. Where soundness is thefirst consideration, free machining analyses are not recommended.
