Everyone is invited to participate in the KEHA Team Up Tuesday Drive-Thru on

Tuesday, October 13, from 1-4:00 p.m. at the Fayette Co. Extension Office. This

is a convenient way for current and new members to deliver your 2020-21

membership dues. Each due paying member will receive a UK Blue Grocery Tote,

delivered curbside to your car. And, for the fun of it, there will be an opportunity to

take selfies to share on the Fayette Co. Extension Homemaker Facebook Page.

October 11-17, the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) is

celebrating KEHA week across the state. Established in 1932, the state

organization’s 13,455 members are dedicated to learning, leading, serving. Programs

educate members and the public about topics including heritage skills, attracting and

protecting pollinators, nurturing families, food safety, nutrition, reducing waste,

leadership, avoiding scams, civic engagement, and more.

Volunteer service is a strong emphasis in KEHA. Members annually report more

than 328,000 volunteer hours in support of Extension and community projects with

a value of more than $7.3 million dollars to the Commonwealth. Since 1977, KEHA

has actively supported the University of Kentucky Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Donations in the forty-three-year history of this project total to more than

$1.5 million.

KEHA is a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for

families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and

education. When the coronavirus pandemic began to affect Kentucky communities

in the spring, KEHA members answered the call to meet local needs. Members

across the state have made home sewn face coverings for healthcare facilities,

community organizations, schools, and more. We are attempting to assess how

many COVID-19 masks Fayette Co. Extension Homemakers have sewn and every

indication it will be a huge number. In addition to providing local community

service, this organization exemplifies the Joy of Giving through annual gatherings/

holiday gifts to seniors in care centers as well as annual donations/collections for

Military Missions, Foster Children Luggage Project, Quilts of Valor, Ovarian Cancer

Research, the Ronald McDonald House and College Scholarships. 2019 reported

membership volunteer service units totaled 35,237 valued at $784,240.

President’s Note

Happy Fall Y’All,

Greetings to all of FC homemakers today! Welcome to my favorite season of the year—Autumn. The chill of the season is in the air— the change of colors in the trees—smells of apple cider and cinnamon flavored treats—beautiful mums adorn our homes. We are so blessed in Kentucky to have such a colorful season!

As you look through the newsletter— please check out many of the lessons that are being offered virtually and through the use of Zoom we can still continue our learning and sharing of ideas!

As clubs come back together—let me encourage you to try and meet and connect...some through zoom...some are social distancing outside through walks, back porches and meeting in some restaurants...others may connect through calls and encouraging notes and texts. Let’s all try and communicate!

We also want you to examine the ideas that KEHA has for Kick It Up week in October—fun activities are planned October 11-17. I look forward to presenting existing club, associated mailbox and new members with a special UK Tote at the Membership Drive-Thru on Team Tuesday, October 13, 1–4:00 p.m. as you drop off your membership dues. If you have collected dues for your club, we'll provide totes for each paid member on this day. New members are vital and every Homemaker that gives a membership this year will be entered into a drawing for a great gift basket. Special gifting membership forms are provided in the newsletter. Please note the opportunity to continue financial support for our annual homemakers projects: Military Missions, Joy of Giving, Quilts of Valor, Foster Children Luggage Project, Ronald McDonald House, Coins for Change and the Homemaker Scholarship.

Let’s all mask up and support our goals and the mission of Fayette County Extension Homemakers!

Miss you guys...but be strong!

Be safe and Be blessed! Alyce S. Emerson. President

2020-21 Homemaker Member Dues

Annual dues for 2020-21 year will be collected individually this year and are due to the Extension Office by December 1, 2020. Members will receive a membership form in the October lesson materials to complete and return with payment. Thanks to everyone in advance for your support of Ovarian Cancer Research, included in your $8.00 dues. Even though club meetings and workshops are not operating as usual, it is still important to renew your membership as these funds enable your association to continue to operate. In the event your club is not collecting extra funds, you may also wish to contribute to annually supported Fayette Co. Extension Homemaker programs: Joy of Giving, Military Missions, Foster Children Luggage Project, Quilts of Valor, the Ronald McDonald House and College Scholarships. We are setting a goal to raise $1,000 this year to support these special projects. Don’t forget to pay it forward by gifting someone a membership. We look forward to your return to classes that provides useful information and fellowship. We are looking forward to greeting many you who will select the option to pay dues at the KEHA Drive-Thru on October 13, 1-4:00 p.m. to receive a UK Tote Bag. New this year, you can now pay your dues and/or donate to any other Homemaker project online. Visit: https://fayette.ca.uky.edu/content/homemakers
