BACKGROUND What is it? (http://www.pechakucha.org/faq) PechaKucha is a global series of live events held worldwide where people can meet, inspire and get inspired, based on a format that is fast-paced and fun. PechaKucha Nights are for thinking and drinking. PechaKucha is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds (known as Pechakucha 20x20). The images advance automatically and our presenters talk along to the images. Watch this video and it will help explain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq9txHjiRYo

What do people present? PechaKucha Nights are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps -- just about anything, really -- in the PechaKucha 20x20 format. The key to a great presentation is to present something you love. Most people use PechaKucha Night to present their latest creative projects or work. Some people share their passion and show their prized collection of Nana Mouskouri records, while others share photos of their latest visit to a construction site or their recent holiday snaps. We always recommend people go and see a PechaKucha Night before they ask to present to get a good feel for what it's all about. Good PechaKucha presentations are the ones that uncover the unexpected - unexpected talent, unexpected ideas. Some PechaKuchas tell great stories about a project or a trip. Some are incredibly personal, some are incredibly funny, but all are very different, and they turn each PechaKucha Night into “a box of chocolates.”

Where do people present? PechaKucha Nights are mostly held in fun spaces with a bar, similar to the home of PechaKucha Night, SuperDeluxe, a bar in the Roppongi district of Tokyo. To date, PechaKucha Nights have been held in bars, restaurants, clubs, beer gardens, homes, studios, universities, churches, prisons (disused), beaches, swimming pools, even a quarry!

Who can present? Anyone can present - this is the beauty of PechaKucha Nights.

INTRODUCTION Pecha Kucha Nights Bergen (PKN Bergen/PKN BGO) takes place every three months at Cornerteateret, Møhlenpris. So far we have hosted four incredibly successful volumes of PKN Bergen, and with your help we’ll make that grow.

Promoting an event of this nature is a hugely important undertaking that requires many formats and mediums, not least eye-catching, simple, beautifully designed posters.

Bergen and it’s famous musical heritage is an avid fan of posters - every week we see boards, litter bins, walls adorned with posters and every week they are taken down only to be replaced again.

This year we decided to invite you, the creme-de-la-creme of design students, to a design competition, where one successful designers poster design will be chosen by the founders of PKN Bergen to become our poster design format for 2016. Sounds good, right? Right!

Your challenge is to come up with a novel poster design. The design will need to work as a poster in A4/A3/A2 format and be adaptable across social media - Facebook/Twitter Header images, as well as Instagram promotional images. It will need to stand out from the crowded walls. It will need to consider print production costs (to be kept to a minimum). It will also need to take in to consideration the environment and printed processes - we are open to ideas.

Your poster design will boost recognition for the PKN Bergen brand and the night, whilst allowing for some subtle changes to give each poster a uniqueness, whilst being consistently to the format.

Each year we host at least four PKN Bergen events, and your winning design will be used for each one throughout 2016.

Objective What is/are the marketing objective(s) you are trying to achieve? Do you want to encourage perceptual or behavioural changes? Do you want to create awareness? Are there specific goals you would like to achieve?

We want our night to be even more successful. To spread the word about the great and inspirational speakers that PKN Bergen has to offer. Here’s the highlights that we believe makes PKN Bergen unique:

- we have inspirational speakers from all walks of life - we host live music from new and up-and-coming bands - we have performances and comedians - we are open until 2am with NopelBopel managing the bar - there is no other night like it in Bergen!

Our record is 220 people in attendance, we want to double that for each event.

We have over 500 likes on facebook, but we need to triple that!

Target Audience Who is the target market? What are their demographics, psychographics, attitudes, usage? Are they existing or new customers? If existing, what do they think of the brand right now.

Our audience ranges from - from 16-60+. We would like to attract more students and young people, as well as older. People that are interested in culture, live events, live music, arts, crafts, food, etc. Feedback from people who’ve attended our nights has been positive, although we are always learning how to improve the show and the night.

Challenge What are the real reasons for the change(s); e.g refining your offering? Expanding your business? More interactive? How do you want to engage the audience?

We want PKN Bergen to be about promoting the best that Bergen has to offer. That starts with how the night is promoted and by whom. Working with KHiB is important to us because we want to give opportunities to the new and young talent in the city.

The challenge is to help PKN Bergen stand-out. To be a beacon amidst the noise.

Mandatory Are there are any major ‘must haves’, for example; objectives that must be delivered that haven’t already been mentioned?

Yes. The poster design must adhere to the guidelines set-up by PKN Global. The poster must include the PechaKucha 20 x 20 logo, as well as an official ‘boiler-plate badge’ for the city. These assets will be supplied. There is no restriction on font usage, but simple and consistent is best.

Timings When should the launch take place and why (if applicable)? Supply any key dates and stages

Timing is tight, the next PLKN Bergen vol.5 is Friday 12.Feb 2006. We need to allow 5 days for printing and delivery and at least two weeks for the posters to be flyposted. Deadline is for your submission is Monday, 18 January 2016 and a decision on the winner will be posted by Friday, 22 January 2016.

What’s in it for you? Free guest passes for you and a friend all year! Free Beer*! Self promotion! Your work, printed, for a year, all over Bergen!

* Within reason ;)
