Pitch for a niche show

Why I chose niche over mainstream• To begin with I had the choice of producing a niche show, which would be a late night

show and would feature an array of niche music genres which is aimed at a narrow and specialized audience, or a mainstream show which would be an early morning breakfast show in the prime time slot in a schedule, featuring many mainstream and popular genres of music, aimed at a broad and unspecialized audience.

• In order to choose, I decided to determine which one to choose by the factor of which audience I would be most comfortable with and which one I would find it easiest to appeal and relate to. So I had to determine would I rather produce a show consisting of a audience of roughly people my age with similar tastes, whom I would be able to relate to relatively easily or an audience whom I do not know how to relate to and could be mostly a different age group.

• Finally, I have decided to produce a niche show. Mostly because I find it easier to appeal to this audience, as I have similar tastes in music, such as electronic and am of the same age group

Title, Style and music genre• Title of niche show: The Rock and Sock Connection.

• Style: I have chosen for the style to be informal in order to be applicable for the audience.

• The host will have a relaxed, easy-going and casual, during talks and songs.

• My show will be a late night show

• My show will feature music played from niche music genres such as house, electronic and dance.

Scheduling Information• My niche show will be played on BBC Radio 1extra.• As it is a late night show, it will be aired from 01:30am to 03:30am.

• My show will mostly consist of jingles(see sample material), music, and talks. Also, occasionally will contain advertisements for other shows.

• When my show will be live it will be available to be listened to from the radio, television, car etc.

• When my show is not live, it will be able to be listened to from computer, smartphones, smart TVs etc.

Target Audience• My niche show is targeted at teenagers(13-19 years old) with niche music tastes.

• It will be aired early mornings from 01:30am to 03:30am, so it will be mainly males.

• Young adults might also like the niche genres which are being played. • People of social class E/D, so it will be students or young adults, who might want

to listen to the radio show when they are studying.

• The secondary audience will be females• They are likely to enjoy the niche genres of music too• They will be of social class E/D too and will most likely be students.

• Other audiences include class C2 males and people who work late nights shift and such, who can listen to it in their cars.

Post-Broadcast Distribution• When it is live it is available on the radio, online live

broadcast via the radio stations website.

• After the broadcast it is available online on the radio stations website and to download via various different forms such as the radio stations website and radio stations apps.

• It is available for people who missed the live broadcast by catch up by download and catchup via smartphones and such.
