DESCRIPTION
This document, written as an excersize in class, was drafted to attract local radio attention towards Erin Shay, the fictional new president of the David S. Fullerton Foundation.TRANSCRIPT
Dear Tom Boswell, Even though Erin Shay is the Vice President of Global Citizenship at Abbott, it is not rare to see her in some disadvantaged Chicago neighborhood as she is walking into a storefront charity in jeans and sneakers. In fact, the only thing that Erin Shay doesn’t add to corporate giving is time wasted on red tape. In her eight year career spent at this major pharmaceutical and healthcare company, Erin Shay has increased corporate contributions from a million dollars to $10.5 million a year. However, when it comes to charity, Erin Shay does not discriminate: she visits even the smallest of local battered spouse clinics or pre-‐natal and neo-‐natal care to provide funding. From Rogers Park to West Pullman, Ms. Shay has traversed the city to provide resources to Chicagoans in need. On Jan. 3, 2012, Ms. Shay will leave Abbott to replace Harold Melton as the president of the David S. Fullerton Foundation. Although she will be the head of a charity with an endowment of over $1 billion dollars, Erin Shay and her board of directors are still committed to the little guy. In addition to giving over $100 million to the Mayo Clinic and other medical research facilities, Ms. Shay and her team are looking forward to provide more grants to the local area. I believe that this remarkable woman’s success story would make a perfect addition to your show on WBEZ. As a Chicagoan myself, I find Erin Shay’s ambition to be an inspiration for my desire to give back to my local community. Her amazing career could inspire thousands of other residents to improve the city they call home. Erin Shay is available for an interview anytime after her news conference on Thursday, Oct. 27. I will be calling in a few days to see you agree that Erin Shay would be an entertaining and inspiring guest. Thank you for your consideration. Best Regards, Paul McCormack
