Warm Up!We do these at the start of every phonics session

Complete 1 or 2 per day

Musical sounds

Like musical statues! Play your favourite

song and do your best moves! Adult to stop

the music and show a sound.

Can they tell you what sound it is?

Can they think of a word starting with that

sound?

Around the clock

Ask your child to sit on the floor. Write

phase 3 sounds or tricky words onto

separate pieces of paper and place them

in a circle around your child. Adult to call

out a sound or tricky word, child to find it

and splat it with their hand.

Tricky word bowling

Collect different sized containers or

bottles and write tricky words on

them. Can your child use something to knock the

containers over and read the ones they

have knocked over!

Fastest finger first!

Write some sounds onto a strip of

paper with coloured dots underneath

them. You could ask the whole family

to join in with the game. Adult to call

out a sound, and everyone to find it

on their strip of paper. You could ask

your child to call out a sound.

Tricky word story spotter!

Can your child first look at the tricky words that are in

the story, which can be found at the bottom of the second page. Can your child

recall them first before trying to find them in the

story. Once they have found a tricky word, can they

underline the tricky word in a coloured pen.

Challenge: Can you read the story after you have found

all of the tricky words?

Tricky word scavenger hunt Please see the next page for the full

version. Adult can you hide the following tricky words around your home. Show your

child the first word on the list and ask them what tricky word it is? Can they find

it?
