PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE…

In case you haven’t already heard, I will be retiring at the end of this school year! I have greatly enjoyed the last 8 years as a North Glenmore Gator … what a wonderful “finale” to my career in education!! We truly have an amazing school community. It has been an extreme pleasure to have worked with such a positive, outstanding staff, who are all truly committed to the education profession. I have thoroughly enjoyed every student in my care, and have appreci-ated every family that I have had the honour to partner with in “growing great children!” Together, we have accomplished amazing goals here in the Swamp, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to share the leadership towards our success.

FUN LUNCH

A special thank you to our Fun Lunch organizers, Simone Witten-berg & Adam Romano and all parent helpers for all their hard work organizing and serving the fun lunches each Wednesday. Also a special thanks to our Lunch Monitors and the Grade 4’s for all their help with delivering the lunches and overseeing the classes

Track & Field Meet at North Glenmore

To culminate our Track and Field Unit, our Intermediate students will be enjoying a culminating Track & Field meet on Monday, June 8th at the Apple Bowl. So that all students can set and reach a personal goal,

we are once again awarding students with Premier Sports Award badges at the end of our unit.

During our Track and Field Unit, as well as during the Apple Bowl rotations, each student’s performance is rated for each event on a 5-point scale, matching the provincial standards for their age group. All of this information is then collated to determine the corresponding badge colour earned. The chart illustrates how the badge colours are determined. Children who qualify, based on SD23 standards, will have the opportunity to at-

tend Districts this year. We will send 2 students from each grade group per each event. One child cannot compete in more than two events at the Districts, even if they qualify for all. Those who qualify will be noti-fied either after the Apple Bowl or the following morning. Districts are on Wednesday, June 10th.

We are looking for MANY volunteers to assist us with a variety of roles on June 8th at the Apple Bowl. If you are able to help, please contact your classroom teacher.

Thank-you in advance! It will be such a special day for our Gators!

With summer just around the cor-ner, the library would like to offer some reminders and celebrate some successes…

The last day to sign out books from the library is Thursday, June 4. All library books are due back to the library on Friday, June 5. We appreciate your promptness in returning your books, so that we can begin our annual inventory of the library!

Our Spring Reading Club will also be wrapping up on June 5. Make sure to get those reading sum-maries in the library to get prizes and to help your class win ice cream treats!

Our school level Geography Challenge was held on May 13th. Our top thirteen intermediate stu-dents competed by answering twenty five geogra-phy questions in front of their parents and peers. Our school champions were Kael M (3rd), Charlie C. (2nd) and Olivia G (1st ). Congratulations to all of our competitors (Leah, Dawson, Raegan, Mari-na, Fern, Reegan, Alivia, Nicole, Paige and Ma-sato) for answering some VERY difficult geogra-phy questions!

On June 9th , we will be visited by Ashley Machum from the Okana-gan Regional Library. She will be talking to our students about the ORL’s Summer Reading Pro-gram, giving information about library services, and sharing ide-as for great summer books! The Regional Library offers many

FREE activities for students during the summer, so check out their website for more information! (www.orl.bc.ca)

Our Birthday Book Draw winners for May were Magnolia and Russell.

This month we will have two birthday book draws: one for June birthdays and one for July birthdays. Make sure to get your entries in!!

As the summer draws near, don't forget to bring your favourite book to the beach, the park, or even your backyard. There's nothing better than a great book on a hot day!

Thanks so much to ALL the wonderful organizers, fund raisers, and volunteers that made this special family fun event so successful :) See you next year!

PAC Meeting Tuesday, June 16th @ 7pm This will be our final PAC meeting of the 2014-15 school year. Our new Principal, Mr. Birkeland will be in attendance as well. As always, babysitting will be available. Hope to see you there!

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR 2015-2016

The Transportation Department is finalizing the lists of eligible riders for school bus transpor-tation in September 2014.

Step 1: (application for transportation services) All non-transitioning eligible students who were issued bus passes during the 2014-2015

school year should have received confirmation of seat assignment. (If so, move to Step 2; if not please apply on line immediately) Before June 30th, the transportation office will attempt to confirm online applications received for students who are eligible riders. Parents and guardians of eligible students will receive confirmation by e-mail, phone, or letter.

Step 2: Parents of riders who receive confirmation of seat assignment must make arrangements for the $224.00 Student Trans-portation Charge online, or at their local school prior to June 30

th to guarantee a seat in September. In cases of finan-

cial hardship, application for subsidy shall be through your school Principal. (After June 30th, seats not confirmed

through arrangements made for the Student Transportation Charge are released and re-assigned to courtesy riders.)

All confirmed riders who have made arrangements for the $224.00 Student Transportation Charge should refer to the Transportation Website after August 30

th, where you will find the most current information as well as bus stop locations

and estimated pick-up and drop-off times. Bus passes will also be distributed through your local school starting August 31st

. Local schools will also have bus stop locations posted for riders with passes.

Please note that seats for courtesy riders may not be confirmed until all eligible riders have been accommodated in September. Parents may need to make other arrangements for the transportation of their children beginning on Sept. 8th until the number of courtesy seats can be confirmed, seats assigned, the Student Transportation Charge accounted for, and bus passes printed and distributed.

Students must be registered riders with bus passes to ride a school bus. For more information about please visit:

http://www.sd23.bc.ca/ProgramsServices/SchoolBus/Pages/default.aspx

NOTE: Early registration and payment of at least the 1st install-ment of the Student Transportation charge by June 30th will result in a discount of at least $24 per child.
