Personal Hygiene – The First Step to Good Health and cleanliness!!!

Personal hygiene entails more than just being clean. It includes

the many practices that help people be, and stay, healthy.

They need to be aware of the harm that these dirt can cause and how

simple measures like washing hands repeatedly can help prevent diseases like typhoid, cholera, worm infestation etc. from spreading.

The risk of diarrhoeal infection that causes one child death every 30 seconds globally , can be reduced by 47 per cent by the simple process of washing hands with soap. Developing good habits related to sleep cycle, nutrition and cleanliness are also likely to positively impact their academic performance.

First we need to know what are the ways to have a proper hygiene in our body.

When should you wash your hands?

After using the toilet Handling raw food (before and after) Touching the hair, face, or body Sneezing or coughing Eating or drinking Handling chemicals Taking out garbage or trash Clearing Tables Touching clothing or aprons Touching un-sanitized equipment, work

surfaces, or wash cloths

“Good Grooming”- having well washed neat hair, combing the hair neatly, clipping nails, clean face and hands, wearing neat clothes, wearing proper and clean socks and shoes,

Taking a bath daily to keep the dirt and odors away. The “brand” of soap is NOT important. As long as it performs

the function of cleaning up the skin without harming it in any fashion, it is fine to be used.

Remember to wash your body all over, including the private parts. A good rule to follow is to take at least one bath or shower each day no matter what and then if you get dirty and smelly while

playing, you will need to get clean after your activities.

need to put on that you can't put on when clothes cover your body15. Put your clean clothes on16. Gather all your belongings and leave the shower.

COMMON PROBLEMS WITH HAIR

1. LICE aren't dangerous and they don't spread disease, but they are contagious and can just be downright annoying. Their bites may cause a child's scalp to become itchy and inflamed, and persistent scratching may lead to skin irritation and even infection.

2. DANDRUFF are the small pieces of dead skin in a person's hair.”Ringworm of scalp”Some potential causes for dandruff have been suggested,

including increased oil production of the skin and increases in certain skin secretions but the exact cause of dandruff has never been established.

Taking care of the nose Avoid picking the nose. Clean the nose while having a bath. Avoid cleaning and blowing the nose in public places. Use a tissue in getting the dirt on your nose

Taking care of the ears: It's satisfying to dig earwax out of your ears with a cotton-tipped swab, but you're actually damaging your ear and pushing wax farther in your ear

Steps to Clean the Inner Ear:

Use a damp washcloth or a tissue to wipe away earwax from the opening of your ear canal.

If you have water in your ears after bathing or swimming, tilt your head until it drips out or hold a hair dryer set on "low" near your ear.

You Will Need: Soft cloth, Water, Cotton swabs

Steps to Clean the Outer Ear:

1. Begin by moistening a soft cloth with warm water.

2. Squeeze the cloth out so that it is only damp.

3. Wipe the outer ear.

4. Remember to clean behind your ears as well. While there is no waxy build up there, it can

collect dead skin and develop a build up.

5. Cotton swabs can be used to clean the folds of the outer ear. It is not recommended that you

insert a cotton swab into the ear canal. This can push the wax further into the ear as well as

damage the inner ear. Taking care of the teeth

Dental hygiene is made up of brushing your teeth with toothpaste at least two times each day, flossing your teeth often, trying not to eat too many sweets that will rot your teeth and seeing your dentist for regular check-

ups. Taking good care of your mouth and teeth will help you to have pleasant

breath, a nice smile and fewer cavities.

Remember: To replace your toothbrush every three to four months

STEPS IN BRUSHING YOUR TEETH PROPERLY

Use a toothbrush with soft, nylon, round-ended bristles that will not scratch and irritate teeth or damage gums.

1. Place bristles along the gumline at a 45-degree angle. Bristles should contact both the tooth surface and the gumline.

2. Gently brush the outer tooth surfaces of 2-3 teeth using a vibrating back & forth rolling motion. Move brush to the next group of 2-3 teeth and repeat.

3. Maintain a 45-degree angle with bristles contacting the tooth surface and gumline. Gently brush using back, forth, and rolling motion along all of the inner tooth surfaces.

4. Tilt brush vertically behind the front teeth. Make several up & down strokes using the front half of the brush.

5. Place the brush against the biting surface of the teeth & use a gentle back & forth scrubbing motion. Brush the tongue from back to front to remove odor-producing bacteria.

Care of the nails: Nails should always be kept clean and neatly trimmed or filed. Dirt and bacteria can get trapped in nails that aren't clean.

Use a separate nail cutter for each member of the family and you should have a separate nail cutters for the fingernails and toenails

Put alcohol in cleaning nail cutters
