Course Summary This Level 2 Cambridge Technical in Performance is a one-year course that aims to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare you for progression onto level 3 courses, employment and/or as a stepping stone for a higher level course. It gives you the opportunity to consolidate your qualifications by being able to study GCSE English / Mathematics alongside. You will learn by completing projects based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands that would be faced by a modern performer. You will be assessed through a mixture of practical and written work. You will complete units of work that may include: Performing Arts Industry, Acting, Performing Scripted Plays, Musical Theatre, Working as a Musical Ensemble and a Performance Project. At the end of the course you will take part in a major group production, which will involve all of the skills you have learnt. Please note that the units studied may vary to meet local or learner needs. Specific entry requirements Some previous acting experience is desirable. How is the course assessed?Method of assessment: 100% coursework including written and practical assignments.

You will receive a separate grade for each unit and this will contribute to your overall grades. You will come out with a final grade ranging from a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*• Over the period of the course, you will be given assignments to do by your teachers. These assignments are one way in which you can provide evidence that you have studied and understood a topic.• Assignments can vary: some may involve writing an essay / report or may require a performance supported by an evaluation that may be written / word processed or recorded on video / audiotape. Other assignments might ask you to give a presentation talk, prepare a recording, make a stage property or attend a performance venue. It may be possible to finish an assignment using material you have received from your teacher. More often than not you will be expected to do further research in libraries, by visiting theatres / concert halls or companies, or by making telephone calls to investigate a problem. There are many different ways in which you can prove that you understand a topic.• Completed assignments are assessed and graded against the performance criteria relevant to the course you are studying. You always know what the assessor is looking for in your assignment and so you should be able to grade your own performance: you know if you have covered everything and you know how well you have covered it.• At the end of the course you will be given a grade for your work. For Cambridge Technical courses, the highest grade is Distinction*, the next highest is Distinction, followed by a Merit, then a Pass or Unclassified. Your lowest grade for a unit will be your final grade for that particular unit. If for example you were awarded a pass and three distinctions for a unit, your final grade will be pass.

Fact File• For students planning a career in Art and Design, the A Level course will have the necessary breadth of work for entry onto a Degree or Foundation degree in Art and Design.• Some students study a one year full-time Art and Design Foundation course before progressing to degree level. A few students go directly into work related areas. Typical career options include fine art, illustration, textile design, interiors, fashion design, fashion promotion and three-dimensional design, including jewellery, costume and theatre.• Combines well with many other subjects at A level including other Art, Design or Media A levels.

Course SummaryArt, Craft & Design is a multi-disciplinary course which involves working with a wide variety of techniques and processes. In the first year, the course expands and develops students’ practical skills, knowledge and understanding of materials. Students will learn a wide variety of drawing, printmaking, craft and textile techniques and will create exciting contemporary artwork in two and three dimensions. This is deal if you want to explore processes and techniques from across the department.

During the second year the course seeks to build on the knowledge gained during the first year and develop the ability to work independently through sustained investigations, development of ideas and in depth analysis. Students will work on a variety of briefs but they will be more personally directed and in depth. The conclusion of the 2 year A level course will be for students to present two components of work in the form of a portfolio with an externally set assignment.

Specific entry requirementsIt is recommended that you have a grade 5 or above in an Art or relevant Technology subject. If this is not applicable, you should bring a small portfolio of work to your enrolment interview.

Being open to experimentation and to trying new things, as well as having a creative outlook and a willingness to work hard, is highly valued.

How is the course assessed?The course is divided into 18 Units which are all equally weighted. 9 units are completed in year 1 for the Subsidiary Diploma and 9 units in year 2 to complete the Extended Diploma which is equivalent to 3 A levels. Each unit is marked at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
