Performing Arts 2018 - 2019

For the future you want

PERFORMING ARTS

Edinburgh College is home to Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS), one of the country’s largest and most respected centres for training in the performing arts. Whether you aspire towards a career in acting, dance, technical theatre, make-up artistry, costume production or design, PASS is the best place to kick start your career.

Within PASS you will find a purpose-built theatre and dedicated rehearsal studios, which are based between our Granton and Sighthill campuses. These professional facilities make PASS the perfect place to build on your abilities and showcase your talents. We deliver exciting performances throughout the year, giving all areas the chance to put their learning into practice.

We have a dedicated team of experienced lecturers who work closely with the industry to ensure our students are given the best opportunity to develop and progress. We regularly invite industry experts in to deliver workshops for our students.

Our aim is to create the next generation of performers, creative practitioners, stage managers and technicians to ensure a robust and exciting cultural future. We will help guide you towards your future career goals, whether that is going straight into employment within the industry, or on to higher education at universities such as the Royal Conservatoire for Scotland or other such prestigious institutions.

FACILITIESOur commercial facilities include six state of the art rehearsals spaces (two studios are rigged for aerial and hammock work), the PASS Theatre (Fringe Venue 446), a range of lighting and technical equipment to support dance and theatre, two make-up artistry studios and well-equipped costume studios.

The PASS theatre is also home to Edinburgh Festival Fringe Venue 446.

SPOTLIGHTKAREN GILLANKaren Gillan, well known for her role as Amy Pond in Dr Who, started her acting career at Edinburgh College by studying HND Acting. Karen, originally from Inverness, has gone on to star in major films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers and Jumanji.

PASS provided some of the most passionate training I’ve ever experienced in my time as an actor. I credit my understanding of the craft and my discipline directly to the lecturers at PASS. I have been able to use this to carve out a career as an actor and I am eternally grateful.

KAREN GILLAN PASS STUDENT 2004-2005

This course has been so much more than just the creative elements, it has shown me how to be disciplined to achieve deadlines as well as how to communicate and act in a professional manner. The course is taught by two highly experienced lecturers who know the industry extremely well and this is a factor which makes the course so desirable, as it is clear that we are being trained to industry level.

LUCY THOMPSON | 2017 GRADUATE HND THEATRE COSTUME

The skills I learned at Edinburgh College massively helped me gain a foothold in the professional acting world. No better place to start.

GAVIN ROSS | NOMINEE BEST ACTOR FOR TRAINSPOTTING LIVE IN THE SUNDAY HERALD CULTURAL AWARDS, PASS STUDENT 2011-2013

PASS gives you the most incredible foundation for starting in the industry! It pulled out so much confidence in myself, making me believe in ‘me’ again! The lecturers are superheroes at their jobs!

HAYLEY KEATING | PASS STUDENT 2014-2016

The training showed me that the most interesting creative people don’t confine themselves to one discipline. They act, direct, write, play music, dance, sing, make films - they give it all a try.
