Creation and, like wind, which cannot be controlled and is invisible except in its effects, “blows where it will.” The feast of the Weeks or Pentecost, is a celebration of the Covenant between God and the Church. Symbolically assembled in the street, to announce the fulfil-ment of the Covenant in the very event of Jesus’s exaltation and sending of his Spirit, as power and strength of His household, which is the Church. According to Luke, the effects of the Spirit on the disciples lives was; their lively and convincing preaching of the risen Jesus brought many into their ranks. By the end of the day on which Peter preached his maiden sermon, 3,000 were added to their number. Peter, has become like a Good Samaritan: though Jesus is gone from their midst, the disciples now continue his work of healing and helping who-ever falls across their paths. The strength, they are able to do and communicate has nothing to do with worldly power, for they have neither silver nor gold. But be-cause these ex-fishermen have set aside their own egos and identities, and all worldly pretensions. They became an open channel whereby the Holy Spirit flows freely. THE CHALLENGE OF PENTECOST SEASON: For us in the United Church Of Christ In The Philippines, it is an opportuned time to re-examine the place and work of the Holy Spirit in our individual lives and min-istry. It is to help us sharpen our awareness to where this WIND, that Luke de-scribes in his book, blows – as it blows where it wills, or as tongues of fire, where it appears. And in the sharpening of our awareness and our openness to its presence and power, may it enlighten and enliven us as we celebrate the founding birth of the Church, of being one united and uniting church. May this Pentecost Season, will continually serve us, as a stimuli for our individual and collective honesty and sin-cere assessment that it may be truly a new beginning and new empowering to-wards our only mission to which we are called, the establishment of universal brotherhood and sisterhood of a shalom community wherever we are set by God! ========================================================================================================================================

coln once said: You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

A God Empowered life is illumined in many ways. This is true when we are in a community of faith, we are recognized to be a light and partakers of God’s work when we illumine (light up) grace, faith and love.

We are empowered when we illumine grace; we are found a beautiful creation of God because we act out the grace we find in God. We exercise the reason of God’s grace that we are able to bind together regardless of our diversity.

We are empowered when we illumine faith, this is when we are found to be a preacher and doer of the faith that we profess. We continue to work and serve for God’s pur-pose; faith becomes our fuel and energy to keep on.

We are empowered, when we illumine love, a virtue that is expected to be present in our lives, love that is fundamen-tal in our Christian belief, remembering God’s act to save us.

The Empowerment of God through the Holy Spirit is present and is all sufficient, let us become discerning and ac-tive, let us always ground and meditate, pay attention to God’s call of change and empowerment. After all there is nobody who knows how weak we are, who knows all our needs better than our-selves, there is nobody so strong to make us better when we are weak, there is nobody who sees through our soul and can love and make as whole, it is only God who can em-power and lift us to a life eternal.

A classic song entitled “Empower Me” has become my fav hymn/song when i started to sing in the Choir (that was 20 years ago) when i joined the Vesper Choir. An arrangement that simply talks about our frailty as humans and God’s magnificent work of grace in our lives, the work of the Holy Spirit that is flow-ing in season and out of season of need. Indeed, as we examine ourselves, we find a person that is weak, seeks for a company, we were born to be a person that has many impurities and rushing thoughts of unkindness some-times lure us. This is inevitable that we end up doing things that do not give glory to the precious name of Jesus. We become par-takers of those who wound the heart of God.

God’s empowerment is a call to change; the Holy Spirit that works in us is a grace that is all present. When occasions ap-proach for sudden grasps for God’s help is already a season of call to change, and this is empowerment.

In our need of change, we understand that it is also asked of us to offer ourselves to approach God in His holiness to come, examine and polish us, empowerment therefore needs preparation. We are therefore seeking for a lovely time to make us change, to make these things empowered and turn into a lovely creation that only God can do, the Holy Spirit that is sent forth to flow in us is an abundant grace that is all present and sufficient.

This month’s theme speaks of our need to recognize the working of the Holy Spirit that sometimes become vague in our fellowship; we often recognize its regenerating effect, power that resembles magnificent grace that changes things, time, wounds and difficulties in our lives we could not imagine. Beyond words we cannot illustrate its empowering kindness to face our daily battles in life.

It is only God who sees our innermost. We cannot fake it before the eyes of men all the time, especially God. Abraham Lin-

called several names in

the Bible. It is the Spirit of Truth, which leads us to the truth

and lets justice reign. It is also the Convicter of Sin, the con-

science that knocks on our hearts; the Comforter and The

Advocate which guides us and steadies our heart in the midst

of trial and tribulation. The Sustainer of Life, that maintains

the power of God.

We have witnessed numerous events wherein we

have seen the work of the Holy Spirit. Personally, I have more

than one great example of the Holy Spirit’s work. A few weeks

ago, two church summer camps have been held and I am

blessed to have joined these activities. I have seen the Holy

Spirit worked its way through the staff, counselors and camp-

ers, all throughout the preparation until the said dates. I have

felt God’s loving hands through the ups and downs of the

camp, Him sending the people and the things we need in or-

der to accomplish the task given to us. It is indeed the Holy

Spirit, the Quiet guide that provided the strength and will to

finish the task and in moments of weakness brought us back

to God’s will.

Whenever we pray for God’s anointing, we also pray

for the Holy Spirit to lead us and direct our paths. We pray for

It to continue its work amongst us and to be its living instru-

ments.

Ever wondered a body without a

soul? They said that the eyes are

the windows of the soul, what if

there was nothing to look at in the

eyes, no feelings, no emotions,

nothing, just endless depth. That

would be very unpleasantly lonely.

The Church, as the Bible says, is the

Body of Christ, a unified group of diverse people with a

common goal and a common faith. The Holy Spirit, how-

ever, is the Body’s soul. It is the force that moves the

Body to do its work, the one that empowers and solidi-

fies the body. It is the glue that binds the pieces. What

if there was no Holy Spirit sent by God? Then we are

like lost mountaineers without compass or even a north

star to follow and guide. The work of the Holy Spirit is

inseparable with the mission of Christianity or with the

commandment of Christ. It is our driving power that

enables us to do the work specified for us.

As Christians we faced inward and outward

battles, to overcome these battles we need the Holy

Spirit to empower us and equip us with its guidance to

discern the right decisions and moves. The Holy Spirit is

21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against

me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to

you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Matthew 18:21-22

The story is told about a woman who was confined in a

concentration camp in Germany, together with her

sister during World war II. She was not only humili-

ated and degraded, but she watched her sister’s dying

moment. Yet, after all the sufferings God’s grace

came. After the war, she went to Germany to preach

forgiveness. Following the service, a man came to her.

She could not forget the man, who was one of the cru-

ellest especially to her sister. The man, now a Chris-

tian was asking for forgiveness. As the memories of

World War II in the concentration camp flooded into

her mind she stood there frozen. She couldn’t forgive.

Her sister died and she was humiliated. She cried in-

wardly. “Lord, forgive me. I can’t forgive.” As she

stood motionless, tears rolling down her cheeks, she

prayed to forgive. God melted the hate in her heart

and as she reached out for the man’s hands and spoke

forgiveness, the burden of the past blew away.

The source of forgiveness is God’s forgiveness.

We are fully, freely forgiven through Christ’s death on

the cross. The cross is where we receive forgiveness

and where we learn to forgive. Sometimes we say,

“If you only knew what that person did to me.”

Then, someone tells you “Why was Christ nailed on

the cross? Had He done wrong to us? We are de-

clared forgiven by Jesus, as a consequence, you

have the responsibility to let go of the wrong done to

you.

To forgive those who have done you wrong:

Pray for a Forgiving Spirit to dwell in you. An unfor-

giving spirit is a mind full or torment, torture and

pains. The moment you start hating someone you

become his slave. He even controls your mind. Even

the sound of his name makes you sick. His presence

is hell to you. At the middle of a sumptuous meal,

the thought of him will not permit you to enjoy your

food.

The reason for forgiveness is found in the

FORGIVER, not the forgiven. This is the great truth

about our forgiveness through Christ. It is an act of

Grace from the Christ Jesus, Model of all FORGIVE-

NESS. Only the KING can forgive our debt and he

forgives it by paying it himself on the cross.

PRAYER: “LORD TEACH ME TO FORGIVE. TEACH ME TO LET GO OF THE PAIN THAT ENSLAVE ME. I TRUST YOU, LORD, FOR WISDOM AND STRENGTH TO FACE WHAT THE FUTURE MAY HOLD.’ IN JESUS NAME.

AMEN

Amen.

the time, especially after playing or exercising. With WATER, you'll feel play and exercise better.

http://www.fnri.dost.gov.ph

In the Philippines, summer starts from April and end in May. It is the season wherein everybody engages in holi-day sports like basketball, badminton, and volleyball. Do you experience thirst and excessive sweating after play-ing basketball or volleyball? Chances are, you are thirsty and sweating by the end of the game. Such thirst and sweating are signs of dehydration. Dehydration means that your body loses more fluids (like sweat or urine) than it takes in.

Our bodies need WATER at least 8 glasses a day to work properly. We lose water and some minerals (like salt) from our bodies everyday in many ways - through sweating, urinating, and even through breathing. So, we need to replace the water we lose through drinking and through the food we eat.

Nearly all foods contain water and some foods

are over 90% water. The energy-yielding nutrients in them give rise to additional water as they are oxidized during the breakdown process. The remainder of the water that we need comes from beverages.

Remember that WATER is great - it helps every cell in our bodies to work properly, even cools us down when we need it. So keep on drinking enough liquids all

and forget that God is

the rightful center of

attention. Instead, we

head to church or into

quiet time looking for

something to in-

spire us, motivate us,

or help us.

Part of the

problem is that we

would like to practice

our faith in the safest

way possible. Bible

study, prayer, and

church are relatively

easy, compared to

stepping out in faith

or enduring persecu-

tion. But to know God

intimately is not a

purely intellectual pur-

suit. A truth about the

Lord is not truly ours

until He works it into

our daily life.

Our Father

wants His children to

understand how He

operates. The only

way to gain that

knowledge is by allow-

ing God to unveil Him-

self in our life experi-

ences. That means we

must be willing to go

through difficulty and

pain as well as happi-

ness and peace. A

man can read that the

Holy Spirit is the be-

liever's Comforter, but

he does not know this

truth until he has

need of solace.

The Christian life is

not about feeling good

and deriving the

greatest personal

benefit from our con-

nection to God.

Rather, the Lord

builds an intimate re-

lationship with each of

His followers. In that

way, He can reveal

more about Himself—

truth by truth—as a

believer needs that

knowledge. What a

privilege!
