Pre service played by Rhys Thorn & Grace Togneri
Welcome
Introit "Ubi Caritas" (Where charity and Love are found, God is there) Maurice Duruflé (1902-86)
Greeting
Kia noho a Ihowa kia koutou. May God be with you.
Ma Ihowa koe e manaaki. May God bless you.
Call to Worship Come, sing a song of worship.
Come, sing a song of praise.
Today is a day of promise fulfilled.
With joy we celebrate Pentecost.
A day when life and freedom flow.
A day of confusion and connecting.
A day the church is turned inside out.
A day we are turned toward others.
A day good news makes sense.
The fire of the Holy Spirit comes on us.
Let us worship God.
Hymn “On Pentecost they gathered” (St Theodulph 7676D) GtG 289

1 On Pentecost they gathered quite early in
the day.
A band of Christ’s disciples, to worship, sing,
and pray.
A mighty wind came blowing, filled all the
swirling air,
and tongues of fire aglowing inspired each
person there.
2 The people all around them were startled
and amazed
to understand their language, as Christ the
Lord they praised.
What universal message, what great good
news was here?
That Christ, once dead, is risen to vanquish all
our fear.
3 God pours the Holy Spirit on all who would
believe,
on women, men, and children who would
God’s grace receive.
That Spirit knows no limit, bestowing life and
power.
The church, formed and reforming, responds
in every hour.
4 O Spirit, sent from heaven on that day long
ago,
rekindle faith among us in all life’s ebb and
flow.
O give us ears to listen and tongues aflame
with praise,
so folk of every nation glad songs of joy shall
raise.
Prayer of Praise & Confession
Assurance of Forgiveness E te whanau … we are God’s beloved people.
Thanks be to God

Spirit, spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness, calling and free
Spirit, spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.
1 You moved on the waters, you called to the
deep,
then you coaxed up the mountains from the
valleys of sleep;
and over the eons, you called to each thing
awake from your slumbers and rise on your
wings.
Spirit, spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness, calling and free
Spirit, spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.
2 You swept through the desert, you stung with
the sand,
and you goaded your people with a law and a
land;
when they were confounded with idols and lies,
then you spoke through your prophets to open
their eyes.
Spirit, spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness, calling and free
Spirit, spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.
3 You sang in a stable, you cried from a hill,
then you whispered in silence when the whole
world was still
and down in the city you called once again
when you blew through your people on the
rush of the wind.
Spirit, spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness, calling and free
Spirit, spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.
4 You call from tomorrow, you break ancient
schemes
from the bondage of sorrow the captives dream
dreams;
our women see visions, our men clear their
eyes.
With bold new decisions your people arise.
Spirit, spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness, calling and free
Spirit, spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.

Hymn “She sits like a bird” (Thainaky) CH4 593 Graham Maule (b. 1958) & John Bell (b. 1949)

1 She sits like a bird, brooding on the
waters,
hovering on the chaos of the world’s first
day;
she sighs and she sings, mothering
creation,
waiting to give birth to all the Word will
say.
2 She wings over earth, resting where she
wishes,
lighting close at hand or soaring through
the skies;
she nests in the womb, welcoming each
wonder,
nourishing potential hidden to our eyes.
3 She dances in fire, startling her
spectators,
waking tongues of ecstasy where
dumbness reigned;
she weans and inspires all whose hearts
are open,
nor can she be captured, silenced or
restrained.
4 For she is the Spirit, one with God in
essence,
gifted by the Saviour in eternal love;
she is the key opening the scriptures,
enemy of apathy and heavenly dove.
Prayers of Thanksgiving and for Others
concluding with…
Our Father in heaven
Hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
Now and forever:
AMEN

1 Come down, O Love Divine,
seek out this soul of mine,
and visit it with your own ardour glowing;
O Comforter, draw near,
within my heart appear,
and kindle it, your holy flame bestowing.
2 O let it freely burn,
till earthly passions turn
to dust and ashes, in its heat consuming;
and let your glorious light
shine ever on my sight,
and clothe me round, the while my path
illuming.
3 Let holy charity
my outward vesture be,
and lowliness becomes my inner clothing;
true lowliness of heart,
which takes the humbler part,
and o'er its own shortcomings weeps with
loathing.
4 And so the yearning strong,
with which the soul will long,
shall far outpass the power of human telling;
we cannot guess its grace,
till we become the place
wherein the Holy Spirit makes a dwelling.
Benediction and Threefold Amen
