Nut Products
We have several students with
severe nut allergies to reduce
exposure to anything which
may cause an allergic reaction
we ask that all families assist
by not sending nuts or foods
with nuts to school with your
child. This includes nutella,
peanut butter or muesli bars
with nuts.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

FROM THE PRINCIPAL Thank you to everyone who attended our Book Week parade. It has been wonderful to celebrate reading and literature with a range of activities. With so many options to entertain children it is really important to remember the regular reading to and with children encourages a love of literature and helps develop a lifelong love of reading. Regular reading to children at home helps build their reading skills and vocabulary in a positive and enjoyable way.
Our Art Exhibition was hugely successful. Lots of positive messages were left for the artists. Special mention to the students below who received a Principal’s award for their efforts.

Preschool and Kinder enrolments
Kindergarten
We are now enrolling for kindergarten 2018. Children
must turn 5 before 31.7.18 to start school next year. If
you are intending to start your child at school next
year or know of someone who wishes to enroll their
child enrolment forms can be collected at the school
office. If your child is currently in our preschool and
you are a local area student you need to let the office
know you are intending to enroll them at school here.
Preschool
We are also taking preschool applications for 2018.
Children must turn 4 before 31 July 2018 to start at our
preschool next year. The preschool expression of interest
form can be collected at the office. The preschool will
runs on full day sessions in 2018 with children attending
five day fortnight. Preschool enrolment applications must
be submitted before 1 September, 2017 in order to be
considered for the first round of places.
The preschool program is a one year program for children
in the year before they commence formal schooling.
Children are only eligible for preschool for one year
before they commence school. We are happy to discuss
your child with you and offer advice if you are not sure
of when they should commence preschool in 2018.
The daily fee for preschool is currently $30.00 dollars a
day full fee and $15.00 a day for healthcare card holders
and pensioners. We are able to adjust the fee rate with
families on a case by case basis to assist if familes are
unable to meet the applicable fee due to financial
hardship.
Earn and Learn
Woolworths are running their Earn and Learn
promotion once again. Collect the stickers after
you make a purchase and stick on the sticker
sheet. When the sheet is full or at the end of
the promotion return the sheet to the box in
the office. The school is then able to redeem the
stickers for classroom resources.
Story Tellers The Cumberland Council Library team came to our
school to celebrate Children's Book Week. They
presented a storytelling session using this year's CBCA
short-listed books.
The first book was Chip by Kylie Howarth. This was hilariously acted out by the seagull character, who threw big chips around, wet the audience and gave Mrs. Hart a good soaking!
The second book was Go home, cheeky animals by Johanna Bell. The funniest part was when the
students wearing animal masks had to run away to the back of the hall.
The storytellers then acted out the beginning of Jimmy Cook discovers third grade by Kate and Jol Temple. We are hoping to find out how that story ends soon.
We had a great afternoon of loud fun and we hope that the storytellers come again to help us celebrate book week.
Peer Reading
On Thursday we held a peer reading session as
part of our Book Week celebration. Year 5/6
peer leaders took their Peer Support groups and
read them a book from the Children’s Book
Council of Australia, short listed books for 2017.
The leaders shared the book with their group
and we talked about the books. The leaders
presented the children in their groups with a
book mark at the end of the session.
Debating Our last debate was against Guilford West Public School. The topic was “Everyone Should Play Sport” and we were the affirmative team. The debaters were Jenny, Daniel and Mannat. Our advisor was Matt. Our argument wasn’t persuasive enough and the other team won the debate. We congratulated them afterwards.
Festival of Instrumental Music
On Tuesday the 1st of August, the Senior
Recorder Group went to the Opera House to
perform for the Festival of Instrumental Music.
We went to the Opera House via a bus with
Widemere Public School and Greystanes Public
School. Then we had our final rehearsal. Our
conductor was Susan Sukkar.
That evening, we played three pieces of music
with almost 600 other students.
It was a thrilling and tiring experience!
Father’s Day Stall Next week, the P&C will be holding a Father’s Day stall. This is an opportunity for students to select and purchase a gift to take home for their dad, grandfather or other special person. Teachers will take their classes to the stall throughout the school day to make their surprise purchases. Please mark the appropriate date on your calendar as a reminder to send along a few coins with your child/children to support the stall:
Preschool and EI: Tuesday 29th August K-6, Preschool and EI: Friday 1st September
Gifts will range from $2.00 to $10.00.
