The fastest, easiest way to fundraise
Payroll deduction is the easiest way to fundraise for the United Way. Simply ask your
colleagues to sign up for payroll deduction through the online tool. Hold a staff meeting where the online donation option is introduced as being a convenient and secure way to donate. Also make pledge forms available at a central location. You’ll find a limited number of pledge forms in your kit. If you need extra slips, you can download them from the United Way page on the Intranet. Please note that payroll deductions begin in January 2015.
The key is to ASK
The key is to ask. Studies show that people are less likely to say no to making a donation if they are
asked personally. Through a one-on-one conversation, ask your co-workers, friends and family if
they would like to support the campaign. Consider discussing United Way with your colleagues
during a peer group discussion or team meeting.
The way you ask will set the tone for the conversation. Be relaxed and personal, be honest and
explain why you support the United Way. Provide resources and information regarding United Way
and your organization’s 2014-15 campaign. If individuals decide not to donate, do not take it
personally. The objections are not directed at you or personal.
Remember, you are not expected t be a United Way expert. For more information, videos and
other materials, click on the United Way chiclet located on the MySite page or visit
http://www.unitedwaypeel.org.
Lastly, say “thank you”. It is important to thank everyone involved, even those who do not donate.

How can your gift inspire success, confidence and hope students and their families? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________
Thanks to your generosity, United Way can support the network of services and programs people
need in tough times — crisis phone lines, food banks, emergency shelters, counselling, referrals to
other community resources, and more. Making a donation to the United Way supports the
combined efforts of a network of programs that provide the most comprehensive care for an
individual or family in need, and helps find longer-term solutions for local, community-wide social
issues.

Inspire success, confidence and hope, one dollar at a time.
The possibilities are endless…
Grief-stricken after the loss of both parents, homeless and addicted to
drugs, Glen’s life had spiralled out of control. The volunteers at Brampton’s
Knights Table gave Glen hope and help. Through counselling, regular meals
and other resources such as budget planning, Glen is now drug-free and
giving back to his community.
When Sara first met her new Big Sister Janette, she was a shy, introverted 11 year
old, badly in need of a friend. Sara had been placed in foster care due to her
mother’s deteriorating mental health. She needed stability…someone to fill the
void left by the absence of her mother. The relationship that’s blossomed
between Sara and Big Sister Janette over the last three years has been life-
changing. Sara is now a friendly, talkative and confident 14 year-old.
Having endured child abuse, spousal abuse,
and drug addiction, Wendy moved to Caledon
a few years ago to start a new life. But it was
not easy. Wendy and her three sons have
been living in severe poverty. Desperate for a
job and some support, Wendy found help
through a United Way funded program at
Caledon Community Services. She can now see
the light at the end of the tunnel.

Recognition and Awards
School or worksite Awards Each participating school or worksite is presented with one of the following three awards in the
form of a certificate: recognition award, silver award, or gold award. The award that your school or
worksite will receive is based on the average individual donation calculated for your school or
worksite.
The average individual donation for your school or worksite is compared to the average individual
donation for all schools and worksites across the Peel board. Awards are presented based on the
following criteria:
Recognition - participation at any level that resulted in money raised
Silver -25 per cent above the average individual donation for all schools or worksites
Gold - 50 per cent above the average individual donation for all schools or worksites
Please note that the average individual donation for your school or worksite is calculated by taking
the total dollar amount raised by your school or worksite and dividing this amount by the number
of staff (including teachers, administrators, custodial and secretarial) assigned to your school or
worksite.
Special Recognition Awards for Achievement
This year, five achievement awards, based on the average individual staff donation for your site,
will be presented. The allocation of awards will be as follows:
top two elementary schools
top secondary school
top board office
best use of #InspirePossibility hashtag
most inspiring #InspirePossibility tweet
Each of the above winners will win breakfast for all staff (paid for) and hosted by Tony

Give what you can for United Way Giving Day
At the Peel District School Board, our mission is to inspire success, confidence and hope in each
student – everyday. Yet we know that there are many needs in our community that we can’t
always address –providing food for families that may go without or supporting communities after a
crisis. That’s why we are launching a board-wide giving day in support of United Way of Peel.
United Way Giving Day
The Peel board has declared Oct. 21 as United Way Giving Day to raise much needed funds for
United Way of Peel and the network of social service agencies it supports right here in our
community. Whether it’s a providing shelter for a mother and her children in Brampton, matching
an at-risk child with a mentor in Caledon, or funding a breakfast program in Mississauga for youth
that would otherwise go hungry, United Way of Peel Region offers hope and possibility to
thousands in our community.
A donation of:
$2 per pay will help provide warm winter clothing for a child in need
$10 per pay supports a child with interactive, recreational outings, including healthy snacks and transportation, to help build social skills and self-esteem
$25 per pay will match a child with a caring adult mentor
Helping out is easy
This is a completely voluntary campaign and any contributions are welcome. Whether you send a
loonie, toonie or cheque made out to your child’s school, your contribution will make a difference.
Donations of $25 or more will automatically receive a tax receipt from United Way.
Thank you for lending a helping hand to those who need it most.
