3. PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH PROJECTS As a faculty member and investigator at the Exercise and Health Department of the Faculty of Human Movement, Dr.

Pedro Teixeira was initially involved in a series of studies related to the development of models and methods in the field of human body composition and the relationship of body composition with markers of physical and metabolic health, both in children and adults. This work was funded by internal grants and also by grants from the Oeiras City Council and the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). largest randomized clinical trial of strength training and HRT in this population. Dr. Teixeira was involved in laboratory assessments and data analysis and first-authored the primary article reporting on body composition changes and dose response relationships from this longitudinal trial. At the University of Arizona, Dr. Teixeira was later a co-investigator in the PILOT (Profile-based, Internet-Linked Obesity Trial) study (awarded $537.977 by NIH). This project addressed maintenance of weight loss in middle-aged women after a behavioral lifestyle weight reduction program, specifically focusing on the Internet as a source of long-term continuous care. Dr. Teixeira had a leading role in grant writing, recruitment and assessment plans, intervention implementation, database management, and data analysis. He was the leading author on outcome reports from that project, which culminated in a review article published in Obesity Reviews (ISI 2007 Impact Factor: 7.821). Since 2002, Pedro Teixeira has been involved as a leading investigator in several behavioral weight control trials in Lisbon, Portugal (Faculty of Human Kinetics, Technical University of Lisbon), which have focused on strategies to enhance long-term exercise participation and lasting weight control. These have been funded by private and public institutions, including FCT (Moderators and Mediators of Physical Activity, Body Weight, and Body Composition Change During Obesity Treatment in Women; POCI-PPCDT/DES/57705/2004: 43.890€) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Nutrition And Physical Activity In The Prevention And Treatment Of Obesity; 2004: 28.800€). In these projects Dr. Teixeira has taken a leading role in study design, assessments, implementation, quality control, and data analysis/reporting. Pedro Teixeira participated as a co-investigator in the EUROBESE: Ethics And The Obesity And Overweight Epidemic: Image, Culture, Technologies And Interventions; 2005; 800.000€ (European Commission FP6), a multi-center, pan-European study investigating ethical issues related to the image, culture, technologies and interventions related to obesity. Currently, Pedro Teixeira is the PI on the projects Physical Activity and the Self-Regulation of Eating Behavior and Body Weight (FCT) PTDC/DES/114867/2009: 103.000€), Portuguese Weight Control Registry: The Role of Exercise in Losing Weight and Maintaining a Healthy Weight (FCT: PTDC/DES/72317/2006: 119.400€), and An Open-Access Repository of Self-Regulation Measures for Exercise, Eating, and Weight Control (FCT: PTDC/DES/122395/2010: 98.684€).
