PCCDI Education Sub-Group Meeting
Minutes
November 10, 2010
Present: Abu El, Kim Crouch, Shelley Clifton, Allie Suffety, Bob Hayes, Hasina Abdu,Leila Saba-Hanna, Anthony Davis, Colleen Brown, Michael Craig,
Frank Ruggirello
Meeting started at 6:40 p.m.
Minutes were approved.
New members
We had two new members attend, Michael Craig and Abu El, welcome to both of you!
Starkweather
Bob is to inquire with Starkweather how PCCDI can support the alternative education
program. Discussion included time banking and providing transportation to students
who could attend but cannot obtain necessary transportation. PCCDI would also like to
connect with students at Starkweather to begin discussions on how the PCCS can
better serve students having difficulty succeeding.
Linking businesses and the community was also discussed.
Dynamic Planning See attached for current information. The final edits will bepresented to the Board on November 22.
Frank - about 60 members, 4 meetings scheduled from 1:30-7:00
-Terrific input from various community participants
Four PCCDI education group members were part of the Dynamic Planning team
(Kim Crouch, Nicole Jackson, Bob Hayes, and Frank Ruggirello).
Kim C great input on the direction the community wants to see the schools
pursue.
Shelley-Four PCCDI education group members were part of the Dynamic Planning team
(Kim Crouch, Nicole Jackson, Bob Hayes, and Frank Ruggirello),
Shelley participated in one of the Dynamic Planning team focus group meeting.
PCCS Administrative Openings

The committee inquired about the various administrative openings at the Board Office,and
also want to make sure that the work the PCCDI education group has done to date continues
with new PCCS administration.
PCCDI wants to be assured to be involved in the hiring process with all open administrative
positions in the Board Office.
Michigan Roundtable Exhibit
Information was disseminated from the MI Roundtable on Race, Residence & Regionalism.
P-CCS will be having their display in the district. A timeline, location(s) and rationale will be
developed.
Diversity Plan discussion
Goal PCCDI will review the current plan and establish a timeline and measurable
outcomes to submit to P-CCS for their consideration.
Colleen was one of the few members to share with us her enhancement ideas on parents in
the community as part of the diversity plan update. Colleen she believes benchmarking is
necessary as we move forward. She believes P-CCS needs to:
Designate resources to support the diversity initiative.
Survey parents about current needs and goals for children. Frank indicated that
surveying parents was included in the Dynamic Plan.
Colleen Brown shared information she has gleaned from her research regarding theinvolvement of parents from diverse cultures.
Michael Craig discussed some ideas for parental involvement that occurring in the Detroit
Public school system.
Other Sub-groups
Academic achievement needs to be discussed as a group at our next meeting.
Volunteers
Hasina agreed to take diversity plan updates from everyone via email and put it together so
the we have one consolidated project to review at our next meeting. Please send you diversity
plan updated sections (only address areas where you have ideas or concerns,
enhancements). You can email these drafts to [email protected]
Abu El volunteered to look into setting up an electronic document storage/sharing file for us,
similar to google docs.

Assignments for next Meeting:
1. Review Colleens recommendations and bring back any comments/suggestions to our nextmeeting.
2. Review the Diversity Plan to determine areas of interest and ideas to address. PCCDI works
in an advisory capacity to Plymouth-Canton Community Schools to demonstrate their support
of the Districts diversity plan.

at the Larger Picture.
There was a discussion about the issue of grant-writing in the district, and how PCCDI should
identify talent in this arena to help the schools acquire some additional funding for special
projects. It was discussed that PCCS has insufficient resources to have a dedicated staff
member spend time writing grants.
