Happy New Year to our PCA Families! We hope you had a great holiday season! And here we are in 2016!!

Something new! We are going to set up an Eagle’s Nest weekly prayer box for you to share your requests. One func-

tion of this school body is ministering to one another. Our Lord commands in His Word to carry one another bur-

dens. If you have a request, you can place that request into the secretary’s mailbox or let the office know. Then we

will place these into our weekly news note for all of us to pray. If you need prayer and do not want to share publicly,

you can request a “silent” prayer request. Our Lord knows our needs and He has our best interests at heart. The staff

already prays for each other and for specific students each day. Would you consider sharing so we can add to our

prayer lists? Looking forward to praying!

Information concerning our recess/PE periods: We are looking for volunteers to fill in or to share days

Monday through Friday, January 28 through February 26 to monitor during the noon recess time. The time is 11:15

a.m. to 12:30 p.m. making it only 1 hour and 15 minutes to watch our students. Please contact Mr. Odell or the office

if you can help out.

And speaking of noon recess, please as your children leave your home in the mornings, be sure that they are dressed

warmly to be able to go outside for recess. It is left to the discretion of the monitors to decide if students stay in or go

out. We want our students to be able to get some fresh air and enjoy the crisp, sunshiny days if possible. Hat, gloves,

coats, and boots if snow is on the ground would be great!

Many students like to wear fashionable shoes/boots that are not appropriate for running in the gym or outside. We

have no problem with them wearing them, but when PE classes are in session or morning recess is in gym, an extra

pair of tennis shoes are needed, especially for PE class. It is a good idea to supply an extra pair of tennis shoes, no

black soles, to be left in their locker. Thank you for your attention to these concerns.

ADDRESS changes for PCA directory: Tim & Christina, Timothy (2nd) and Elaina (pre) have a new address.

Please make corrections to your student directories to 448 Elm Place, Princeton, IL 61356. The landline listed is no

longer used, but their cell phone numbers are the same.

Add to the directory: We welcome new students Liliana and Maracole Wolbrecht to 5th grade and Cozy Wolbrecht to

6th grade. This family is already located in the directory and all information is current.

We also welcome a brand new 5th grade student to our PCA family ~ Leah Wilson. We are so happy to have you

here with us!

Kindergarten Tidbits - Mrs. Whitlock

Happy New Year! I pray everyone had a blessed Christmas. I saw several students over the break and it was good.

Wow, do we have an exciting welcome back week!

In Social Studies we are taking a trip to London and have been invited to have afternoon tea with the Queen.

Our new Reader Books are ready to begin. You will see them come home a few times a week. Your child will be ex-

cited over bringing their readers home. Please let them read aloud to you or to another adult. There is not a re-

quired number of pages to read. He/She may read to the end of the book (the books are short) and start again at

the beginning if desired. Use your judgment about how much to have him read. He should read enough to have

regular practice and keep up with the others in his reading group. After your child finishes reading, please record

the date and the specific page numbers read on the Homework Chart provided on the back cover of the book. The

reader should be returned each day so that he will have his reader for class time and recognition for his homework

can be shown.

The skills we will work on include step instructions, animal sound identification, button and unbutton shirts and ty-

ing our shoes.

We will review with flash cards our numbers to one hundred, telling time to o’clock, counting by 10’s and what

comes after numbers 0-19. We will be making addition sentences 1-8 and make up a story to go with our addition

sentences. We will review 1-4 Addition Family and introduce the 5 Addition Family. The number 20-59 will be writ-

ten out. There will be a Number Evaluation at the end of the week.

Phonics will be review of all blends, one vowel rule, and reading one vowel words. We will say-spell all the sight

words (do, to, the, a) and our new sight word “of” will be compared with the word “off” for understanding. We will

underline sight words we find in our sentences. We will review parts of a story and review comprehension of a

story. It is important we understand what we are reading in our Readers. Your children will be excited to learn all

the long vowel sounds and markings this week. Long and short vowel blend ladders will be read and we will play

our favorite “Hayride” game to practice reading long and short vowels in words and blends.

The Fiery Furnace is our Bible story. We will meet Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. Their courage, faith, protec-

tion and witness can be a great lesson for all of us. We need courage to make the decisions to do the right thing

and faith when we face difficult decisions or task in our classroom. God wants us to love HIM more than anything

else. Our memory verse is:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, Do not be terrified or discouraged; for the Lord your

God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Hello Parents!

First grade has gotten off to a great start after our Christmas break. The students have been working hard in their

reading groups, on their math facts, and learning more about our Savior!

We are studying about Jesus as a young boy and how God can use even a young person to do His work! Please ask

your child to recite their verse for you. Our scripture verse to memorize: Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in

favor with God and men. Luke 2:52

This week they will be choosing their poem or scripture verse for the upcoming speech contest. Our in-house contest

Fourth Grade - Mrs. Odell

Miss Luft - 2nd Grade

Happy New Year! We are off to a great start in 2nd grade. We are working on getting back into our routine.

The speech contest is coming soon! Students were given their poem or verse to memorize for the contest yesterday.

They have a copy they are to keep in their travel binder and one to keep at home. Please start working on memorizing

them a little each day as our in house contest will be here before we know it.

Our verse this week is Matthew 19:26: “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all

things are possible.” We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 17 on Friday.

We are continuing to work on our addition and subtraction facts. We will be adding the fourteen addition

family. We will continue to borrow in 3 digit subtraction problems. We will also work on Roman numerals.

Today we started cursive handwriting! Hip! Hip! Hurray!

1st grade continued~

is coming soon and the students who advance will go on to Peoria for the ACSI Speech Contest at Peoria Christian

School on March 4. Two students from each subject, from each class will be chosen.

We will have a phonics test on Wednesday and a spelling test on Friday. Spelling words this week are:

In math we are working again on thermometers, greatest and least, and measuring.

Students have begun receiving “collectibles” who are caught making good choices, and losing one if a poor choice is

made. They begin each week with 10 collectibles, if at the end of the week they still have 10 or more, they will re-

ceive a coupon to do a special activity.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with beautiful, intelligent children and excited about the new year with

them!

praise God!!

Our Scripture passage this week is a quick review of Philippians 2:5-11 and then Isaiah 53:5-7.

We chose speech contest items before break. Your child will compete in poetry, fables, or Scripture.

We are focusing on fractions in math. We are testing on list 17 in spelling on Wednesday then moving on to list 18.

Science chapters are about energy – sound and hearing. History is showing how our nation grew.

Thank you to Angela Bullington and Laura Richey for a fun Christmas party! A great time was had by all! Also, we

were so blessed as teachers to have an elegant evening of delicious food and fun fellowship hosted by the Grey and

Harris families. Thank you for your generosity! Enjoy your week!

6th - 8th Grade Science - Mr. Cornman

6th grade is starting the kids favorite!?! CHEMISTRY! Materials and Matter: mass & weight and density.

7th grade: Most of the 7th graders took 1 or 2 fish home for an experiment on measuring the count of the

operculum. By adding cold or hot water does its respiration rate increase, decrease or stay the same?

8th grade: We are studying electric circuits, measuring power hoe to read your electric meter and calculate

cost E=PxT. We also done experiments with electric current with dry cell battery, light bulb, with and

without a switch.

History, Language Arts, Grammar, 7/8 Spanish - Mrs. Cook

Welcome back! Thanks to all the parents for sending snacks and all the students for their

thoughtful Christmas gifts. We really had a great party day, but it is back to work now!

7th and 8th graders are writing letters of correspondence to students at Sonlight Academy in

Port de Paix, Haiti. I will be traveling there on Friday, so they will get some immediate written re-

sponses. What an encouragement this will be to children who have so little. Students are en-

couraged to pray next week for the student who will receive that letter, that they will come to

know Jesus’ love.

6th and 8th graders have been studying the War of 1812 and some of the advances in our

country during that time.

7th graders are studying the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter Reformation pe-

riod.

Spanish classes are working hard to conjugate verbs.

English ~ 6th grade is starting a new novel: The Cay! This is a short, but endearing com-

ing of age story set during WW II.

7th grade will be testing on Thursday over phrases, dependent clauses, and independ-

ent clauses.
