Principal’s Message The month of June is always filled with exciting celebration

activities as the school year draws to a close. As a school

community, Elgin Park has so much to be proud of; the talents and

successes of our students in academics, athletics, fine arts, and

service.

At this point in the year I want to recognize the staff of Elgin Park.

Their dedication to students, participation and sponsorship of

academics, fine arts, athletics and a wide variety of students’

activities takes them above and beyond on a regular basis and helps

to make Elgin Park a special place. We truly appreciate their hard

work and dedication.

The Commencement Ceremony took place at the Chandos Pattison

Auditorium on June 2nd. It was an outstanding evening which

recognized the Class of 2014 for all their accomplishments and

contributions to our school. Special thanks to the office staff and

teachers who organized this event. A complete list of scholarship

and bursary recipients is included in this newsletter.

The Grade 12 Dinner/Dance was held June 6th at the Sheraton Wall

Centre where 610 glamorous students, parents and staff celebrated

this milestone event. It was a very memorable evening in a

fantastic setting with great food and company. The Dry Grad

immediately followed and was a tremendous success with 260

graduates taking part. Students enjoyed dancing, karaoke, laser tag

and had a chance to play some black jack until the wee hours of the

morning. I would like to thank the Dry Grad Committee who

worked so hard for another hugely successful event.

We should give a big thank-you to all of the coaches at EPS who do

such a tremendous job in providing service to our athletic program

throughout the year. With their dedication and commitment, our

students have the opportunity to participate and develop the

qualities of sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork that are so

valuable in life.

Thank you to the Student Council Executive and members for

2013/14, Levi Chapman, Jennifer Shen, Casey Callaghan, Alisha

Anand, Gavin Li, Vannie Hong, Robert Zhang, Cassidy Poulton,

Jose Villagra, Emily Topolnisky, Lauren Fisher, Taran Bains,

Conor Doherty and Emerson Mohr. They have demonstrated

leadership and commitment to the school for their endeavors this

year.

We are also saying farewell and thank you to Ms. Fraser and Ms.

Lantinga, who will be retiring at the end of the school year. I

would like to thank them for their wonderful service that they have

provided to the Elgin Park community.

Parents, staff and students will miss their caring nature, dedication

and professionalism. They have been active school leaders and

mainstays at Elgin Park and will be truly missed. We wish them

well as they pursue new directions and thank them for the gift that

they have given our students at Elgin Park.

Finally, I would like to recognize the leadership of our Grade 12

students and thank them for the many contributions they have

made to the school over the past five years. We wish you success,

opportunity and courage, to face the changes and challenges that

will occur in your lifetime. Although we say farewell, we give

thanks for your support of the school and your pride and

accomplishments. Class of 2014 – stand tall, set your goals high

and remember to treat each new challenge as a turnaround, not as

a dead-end and don’t be afraid to follow the path to your dreams.

On behalf of all of us at Elgin Park, I wish everyone a successful

year-end and a great summer holiday.
