Mrs. Ludington was a much-loved math teacher here at Warren T. Eich for 18 years before retiring last June. Sadly, she suffered from multiple My-eloma and passed away on January 6, 2011.

Prior to coming to teach here, Mrs. Ludington worked as a pre-school teacher in Utah for many years. In her lifetime, she worked with children for over 36 years.

She was born in 1943 to loving par-

ents Ethel Dudley and Carl Dudley. She is survived by her two wonderful children, Ann and Alan, and by her lov-ing husband Walter.

She will always be recognized for her talents and ongoing care and love. Mrs. Murray says, “Mrs. Ludington was a great teacher, co-worker, and friend. I miss her.” She will be remembered for being a devoted mother and wife, teacher, and dear friend.

Letter to the Editor By Aira Discipulo

Dear Editor,

We should have art class for an elective class next year because a lot of students will like it. Students will learn how to draw, paint, and be creative. They will learn new techniques for drawings and paintings. Students will learn how to make sculptures from clay, and we will learn how to make collages out of photographs. Stu-dents will have fun having art class.

Sincerely, Aira Discipulo

Dear Editor,

We should put surveillance cameras around the campus so we’ll know what is hap-pening around the school. We should put cameras outside the school by the gate. Then we will see who is coming in and out of the school and we’ll know if there is something bad happens or in case of emergency. We should put cameras inside the school so if someone leaves their things out-side the classroom and somebody steals some-thing, we will see who took it. Things will be safe if there is cameras around the school.

Sincerely, Aira Discipulo

Bee Gets Busy Eich’s top spellers compete in the Spelling Bee By Erick Mendoza

Can you spell the word “sagacious”? How about spelling “countenance”? By the way, sagacious means “wise” and countenance means “a face or fa-cial expression”. Now try to spell these words from memory, out loud!

If you were part of the school spell-ing bee this year, you might be able to spell these words and more! I sat down with Mrs. Vallerga to ask her about the 2010-2011 WT Eich School Spelling Bee. Here’s what she had to say.

1.Where did the Spelling Bee take

place?

Each langauge arts section had classroom winners, who went on to the school competition in the band/music room.

2.Why did you decide to have a

Spelling Bee?

We wanted to have a Bee that parents could attend and see their child live. Snacks were served and we had 60 participants.

3. What inspired you to have a

Spelling Bee?

Teachers thought that students would be better prepared for the spell-ing bee if it were open to parents to come and watch.

4. At what time did the Spelling Bee

take place?

It started at 4 and ended at 5:30 on December 8, 2010.

5. Who were the winners?

For 8th grade - 1st was Jazmyne Browning, 2nd David Leon-Guerrero, and 3rd Justin Martin. 4th was the alternate, Ryan Enoch.

7th grade winners: 1st place, Michael Lopez, 2nd place Guisseppe Micchio, 3rd place Stefanie Klugh, and 4th place (alternate) Kiana Sherburn-Vucina.

7th and 8th Grade Speech and Debate Classes

By kaylyn slaTTer

Maybe you have heard the announcement in the school bulletin. You may already know that Mr. Davis, a science teacher here at Eich, will be taking students on a trip to Costa Rica. If you would like more information on the trip, read on! I asked Mr. Davis a few questions about the trip

Q: Who is able to go? A: 7th & 8th graders are eligible to go. But we prefer that a parent accompany their students only because we have found that this helps alleviate problems associated with being away from home. Q: When are you going to Costa Rica? A: The trip is scheduled from July 7, 2011 to July 18, 2011. It is a 12-day trip. Q: Why are you going to Costa Rica? A: Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places to visit. I have been to Europe and all over the U.S., but Costa Rica is the best. The people, the climate, the food. Wonderful place to visit. Q: What are you doing there? A: We will be going to places such as: The Poas Volcano, Arenal Hot Springs, La Fortuna Waterfall hike, Canopy Tour, La Selva Biological station, Cahuita National Park, and Manuel Antonio National park. We will also go zip lining, swimming in the ocean and in swimming pools and going on a crocodile boat ride.

Q: How much does it cost? A: It costs $2507. This cost includes round trip flights, 8 overnight stays in hotels with private bathrooms and 3 meals daily. The cost is a little more than D.C, but it is also longer trip. Payments can be made on a monthly basis.

HEY WILDCATS! DO YOU LIKE TO TALK A LOT, OR DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN? DO YOU LIKE TO EXPRESS YOUSELF AND SHARE YOUR VOICE? I am here to tell you about the amazing new elective, Speech and Debate class. Speech and Debate takes place during 5th period in Room A-4. I interviewed the teacher, Mrs. Dwillis. She kindly answered some ques-tions about the class. I am here to tell you about it so you will get your blood pumping about

Speech and Debate. So, what is Speech and Debate class all about? Mrs. Dwillis answered, “Gaining confidence while giving oral presentations and most of all having fun.” Who’s in the class, and what goes on in the class? These are some of the ques-tions that I asked and she answered “7th + 8th grad-ers are on the wheel for 12 weeks”. Students in the class give speeches, of course, but also perform readers theater,

pantomime, and practice telling jokes. Mrs. Dwillis has the kids playing lots of games, too, such as “kitty in the corner.” Mrs. Dwillis leads the class but allows lots of group work as the students organize their speeches. The last question I asked is how many kids can the classroom hold and she answered “No more than 34 students”. Jewel Larson-Iacovino, a 7th grade student, says that students at Eich think that

Mrs. Dwillis is a very cool and awesome teacher and she makes kids love being in the class. Well, that’s all for today but I hope I interest-ed you in trying to get into Speech and Debate class next year.

8th Grade Boys Basket BallThe fantastic 8th grade boys basketball season By: Max Shaw

The fantastic 8th grade boy’s basketball season

By: Max Shaw YEAH!!! Go Eich Wild-

cats! With the roaring fans, the loud cheerleaders and the swish of the ball going in the hoop, you know the 8th grade basketball team came out with a great season. This year 8Th grade boy’s basketball season we came out with a fight! Our season went 8-4, which means 8 wins and 4 losses.

In order to have a pretty good season of winning, it all started with practice. As Coach Scott said, “Practice the way you play.” Practice wasn’t easy! If you weren’t sweating within the first thirty minutes, our coach would make us sweat!

Each player may have rituals before each and every game. Maybe it was listening to your favorite song, or kiss-ing your shoes, and maybe a good luck rabbit’s foot. My favorite thing to do before a game is to listen to my fa-vorite pump-up song, “Right

Above It” by Lil Wayne and Drake. Anthony McGilbery said, “My favorite ritual is to eat my Cliff bar and to listen to my music!” Another player Davis Ruggles said, “Uh, music. I don’t really have one. I’m just good, I guess.”

We were on a 7 game win-ning streak until we faced the undefeated champions of last year, Cooley Middle School. After that tough game, we couldn’t pull through the next three games.

In the end, after our coach’s inspirational speech, we won our last game. In fact, we didn’t just win - we demol-ished them!

We couldn’t have done it with out our new addition to the team, Jared Jenkins. Also we can’t forget about our veterans from the seventh grade year: Alex Martin, Davis Ruggles, Coleman Harrigan, Zack Hexim, Zuri Corren, Jacob Tawney, Max Shaw, Anthony McGilberry, Ian Miller, and last but not least Justin Martin.

The Eich seventh grade boys basketball team had a 2-10 season. They won their first game, but it was all downhill from there. The players were disappointed with the way the season ended, but they played with a lot of heart. After winning the first game, they went on a eight game losing streak, only to win again in the tenth game. I was really suprised because of how much talent they had, I sat down with Coach Doug to ask him a few questions. Read our Q&A below.

Q: How do you feel about the 7th grade sea-son?

A: We improved as the season went along so we are very hopeful for next year.

Q: Who was your toughest opponent?

A: Granite Oaks - every year they are a prob-lem for us.

Q: What message would you like to share with the guys on the team?

A: Next year we will be a force and I am look-ing forward to it.

Q: Looking back on the last game, how did it feel to win?

A: Any win is great. We improved and the team was very pleased. Look for us to improve in the off season and you will see more wins next year.

Eich Seventh Grade Boys Basketball Has A Tough

Season By Rickey Williams

WOOSH! PASS! SHOOT! DRIBBLE! Let’s give a shout out to the 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball team. Jerry Scott coaches the 7th grade team, and Doug Cummings is the coach for 8th grade. The season started in January and ended in March. Students said, “The team is bound to be good with the intense try-outs, and hard practice.” They sure did practice hard, every weekday both before and after school. Our fantastic girls basketball team kicked off the season with their first game at Olympus on Janu-ary 25th. Let’s give a Wild-cat cheer to the 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team!

P.E. Interview with Mr. O’Hair

Hi. My name is Rickey Williams and I am on the wrestling team. In this article I’m going to tell you what being on our team is all about.

It all starts with practice. In practice we do a lot of conditioning and drilling. In practice we try to become more technical wrestlers and get stronger. Our coach, Dave Stephens, teaches us there is a certain mindset to wrestling.

In wrestling conditioning is very important. Most people don’t notice this but in wrestling you use every muscle in your body; it is the ultimate workout. The majority of our practice is conditioning. Most of us on the team dread conditioning, but I like it because I know its only going to make me bet-ter.

We do a lot of exercises like pushups and leg lifts. In practice we work on our explosion by doing a lot of jumping, because in wrestling you explode into every move. “Never hesitate - always explode when you shoot,” says Coach Stephens. Plus, you always want to pick a move to use and go for it.

Here’s our team roster: Eric Carpio, Jade Larson, Dominick Treanor, Aniruh Avala, Matt Mendoza, Logan Taggart, Will Murphy, Aaron Hopper, James Freeland, Rickey Williams, Evan Gladwill, Josh Vega, Spencer Redlus, Nick Frisella, Scotty Merritt, Keith Makashima, Kaia Shire, Spencer Olson, Trenton Hayes, Josh Tyson, Dillon Lammers, and Andrew O’Hair

As our coach would say, “Put 100% into every move.”

Dear Advice Queen, Every day at lunch there is a

mean 8th grader who comes over to where I’m sitting. He proceeds to call me names, tell me I’m a “Sevvie”, and then he steals my slushy! This makes me to want to cry all the time because I feel so helpless. I want it to stop -but what should I do?!?!?!

From, Helpless SevvieDear Helpless, You really do need some help

with this problem. But first take a breather. First things first. You need to tell an adult. That would be the best thing to do because it’s their job to make sure you are safe. Also, they only want what’s best for you. If he continues to bother you, then tell the princi-pal or your vice principal. So just relax and get up the nerve to tell an adult.

From, Advice Queen

Dear Advice Queen, I am in blue group for WEI

because I have some really bad grades. I’ve had a hard time trying to get my grades up. I’m currently grounded. I can’t hang out with my friends, use the computer, or

watch TV. I’ve asked for extra credit but no teacher will give me anything!!! I don’t know what do about it!!! I need my freedom!!! Help me!!!!!

From, LostDear Lost, I can only suggest one thing.

Please don’t take it personally. DO THE WORK! Also, I would

STUDY! You see the only thing you really can do is study and work. If you are capable of these two things you will get your grade up, get out of blue group, be able to watch TV, go on the computer, and you can hang out with your friends! Oh how happy you’ll be when you have your “freedom” back.

Eich has some crazy fashion, such as different color shoe-laces. Delilah Milner uses shiny ribbon as shoelaces and she wears them with beaming pride. Some people choose to go out and beyond and color their hair different colors. One of the newest fashions for girls are ribbons in their hair; they use crazy colors like lime green and other neon colors.

Max Shaw and Meelahd Ghomeshi have boldly intro-duced shoestring belts to all our little sevies. Max Shaw thinks that shoestring belts are “phat”, and also he loves that Matix pants come with shoe-laces in the pants. Meelahd Ghomeshi also likes to wear T-shirt over his sweatshirts. You can see more and more kids

doing that. Lanyards are also another popular thing that kids are using on their phones and backpacks. Another trend has kids putting duct tape together

to make wallets. Eich students, mostly boys,

have been embroidering their first or last names onto their hats. This has become very popular at our school.

Despicable Me is a hilari-ous movie about a character named Gru. Gru has a master plan to steal…THE MOON!

But he can’t do it without his little yellow minions.

These minions are little yel-low guys and there are hun-dreds of them. Some even become main characters. These guys make the movie 5 times more fun.

Gru has a sidekick, an evil old scientist who can’t hear very well and is a little wacko. Well, for Gru’s mas-ter plan to succeed he needs to steal a shrink ray and build a rocket ship to get to the moon. To get the shrink ray, he makes a plan with three little girls to break into his

2. Uncle Buck Uncle Buck is a 80’s movie clas-

LEO JULY 23 – AUGUST

22You will soon meet a

new friend.

HOROSCOPES

nemesis’ house!

These little girls are or-phans; at least they were

orphans until Gru adopted them. The girls’ names are Edith, Angus, and Margo. Edith wears a pink hat the en-tire movie. Angus, the young-est one of the three, loves Gru. And Margo, she’s the oldest and doesn’t seem very excited about being adopted by Gru. These three girls sell cookies for a living.

This movie is meant for kid’s age 3 and older, only because there are some star-tling characters. Otherwise, this is a great family movie and everyone will love the crazy characters.
