An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place."

So, the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After awhile, they've got air

conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day, God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there in hell?"

Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."

God replies, "What??? You've got an engineer? That's a mistake -- he should never have gotten down there; send him up here."

Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him."

God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue."

Satan laughs uproariously and answers, "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?“- Unknown

Bachelor thesis (Click for more)Abstract:

Bending is one of the important operations carried out in this project to obtain the final product. Our project work is to design and manufacture a bending fixture. The raw material is a pipe having a length of 125mm, diameter of 3mm and thickness of 0.5mm.The fixture designed will be used to obtain two bends at right angles having a radius of 6mm at both the ends of the pipe. The design part involves designing the entire pipe which involves right angled bends at both ends of the pipe while the manufacturing part involves manufacturing of the fixture to bend the two ends at the given radius. This fixture has been designed for mass production.

Master thesis (Click for more)Abstract:

This thesis deals with lifetime estimation of a compressor wheel from precipitation hardened aluminum alloy used in exhaust driven turbochargers. A detailed fatigue analysis will be performed considering the thermal effects that the component is bound to experience. The boundary conditions applied to the system will be imported from CFD analysis performed in previous stage of development cycle. Loading cycle that will be input to the system will be a near version of actual load cycle which has been taken prior to the beginning of study. This actual load spectrum will be converted to a simpler form using rainflow counting algorithm and input to the system. The study will consider viscoplastic material behavior with thermal coupling for its analysis. The used material model is based on type Chaboche with modifications by Jiang. For the lifetime calculation a damage parameter which is based on fracture mechanics is applied. Postprocessing and interpretation of the analysis will then be performed using concepts of Wöhler curve and Miner’s rule. These rules will be used to estimate possible damage to the component under various loading conditions and hence predict the life of the component subjected to cyclic loading under simulated working conditions.

Abstract:Simulation of a forming process in ANSYS with various material models and loading conditions. My tasks include modeling of the components, meshing, creating contact conditions and simulating the process. The component being a cold formed one induces many nonlinearities and comes in contact with various other components in the machine making the project a challenging one to understand its actual behavior.

The study deals with investigation of a press in process of a heat sink on to a PCB and identification of causes of some difficulties incurred by physical restrictions in manufacturing of PCB and hence wide tolerance in the dimensions (thickness) of the same. An FEM model has been generated using ANSYS to understand the phenomena in the forming process and identify a set of most influential parameters and a DOE study is conducted to look out for possibilities for optimization. A sensitivity study has been conducted to identify a minimized set of parameters which have a high influence on the output. In this study, an optimized tooling configuration is also shown which could be treated as ideal. Tools used: optiSLang 4.2 ANSYS 15

Abstract:This internship task involved design optimization for mass balancing of a compressor wheel. I worked with optiSLang and ANSYS with the help of Matlab and Python for automating some chunks of the task. The task would be better described as an automation of a simulation process itself in which the system adapts itself to the given boundary conditions and works to arrive at a best solution. The internship has provided me with best state of art mechanics and mathematics and correlating both to practical problems.

Tools used: optiSLang 4.2 ANSYS 15
