Your path to a career in banking, business analysis, finance and economics Bellerbys A Level Programme Top A Level grades are a requirement for all students looking to study Economics. Our A Level Programme will provide you with all the in-depth preparation, support and knowledge you need to get on to the most demanding and competitive degree courses.

Economics degree essentialsOne of the first questions our students ask is “what A Levels do I need to take in order to study Economics at university?” Entry requirements can vary but if you are looking to progress to a top UK university, you will need to have obtained a minimum of three A Levels and one of these should be in Mathematics, with many top universities requiring at least grade A* standard. Economics at A grade standard is also useful.

Based on the A Level syllabus the Foundation programme will suit you if you are seriously considering a career in an economics related field. This course offers a high level of support and guidance alongside expert teaching.

Once you successfully complete the Foundation Programme and meet the required standards you can progress to an undergraduate degree at one of over 80 UK or Irish universities. Economics degree essentialsEntry requirements for Economics and related degrees can vary by university, however many degree programmes will have a strong mathematical component.

Your path to a career in banking, business analysis, finance and economics Bellerbys Foundation Programme Our Business, Finance and Management Foundation Programme is an intensive, 3-term programme which is accredited by Lancaster University.

What will I study?During the programme you will study specialist modules that have been designed to prepare you for business related degree courses. The modules are based on corresponding A Level subjects and will give you a strong foundation for an undergraduate university degree. To underpin the specialist modules and improve your study skills, you will also study the programme’s core modules in English Skills 1 and 2, Study Skills in the British Environment and Computer Information Technology.

Of those universities that do require an interview, more and more are adopting a ‘panel’ interview style, therefore it has never been more important to be prepared. You will learn how to anticipate questions, communicate your ideas clearly and talk about your subject with passion.

To help our students develop top level communication and study skills and gain entry in their university of choice, we offer an intensive English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP).

Improving your English and developing your study skills Competition to study for an economics degree in the UK is fierce. Students with a high command English will have a distinct advantage, particularly when it comes to expressing themselves at university interviews and in writing their personal statements.

We find that many students when they are looking to join Bellerbys have an IELTS score of below the requirements of many UK universities. To help our students develop top level communication and study skills and gain entry in their university of choice, we offer an intensive English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP). The ELPP can be undertaken for between one and three terms before joining either the A Level or Foundation programme.

The ELPP focuses on maximising progress in each of the four core English skills so that you develop a fully rounded language proficiency. You will also acquire the crucial study skills to help you learn faster and with greater confidence.

Typical Programme Structure: Crucial skills for future academic learning 5 to 7 hours per week: you will also acquire the crucial study skills such as examination technique, note-taking and text scanning, to help you learn faster and with greater confidence. General English – 8 to 10 hours per week: grammatical accuracy, sentence formation and structure, English tense system, identifying structure and meaning in listening, speaking and reading tasks.

Academic Preparation – 10 hours per week: academic English vocabulary and grammar, academic reading, skimming and scanning texts, academic essay writing, writing about visual information and expressing opinion, listening to lectures and introduction to seminar skills.

Daily homework will also form part of the programme.

Q: Where can I study A Levels if I want to progress to a degree in Economics?

A: Our specialist centre for Business related degrees is London, located in the centre of world commerce with links to nearby global institutions and top business schools. However, our Business Foundation and a range of business related A Levels are also taught at Brighton, Cambridge and Oxford.

Q: What are the entry requirements for the A Level Programme?

A: To join the A level Programme you will need: ⋅ An IELTS level of at least 5.5 ⋅ Evidence of a good high school or secondary school

education, or 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above ⋅ To be at least 15.5 years old

Q: When can I start the A Level Programme?A: You can choose from a 3, 5, 5.5 or 6-term programme.

However, we run the 3-term and 5.5-term programmes in Brighton only and there are strict entry requirements for the 3-term programme:

⋅ Outstanding high school graduation grades, or ⋅ You are repeating the A Level Programme, or ⋅ You have already studied at degree level.

Q: What A Level grades will I need to progress to a degree in Economics?

A: To get into the best universities in the UK you will need a minimum of three A levels and one of these must be in Mathematics at grade A standard.

Q: Are there any subjects that are not favoured by universities for economics?
