The Primary Principal’s Letter
ith the children all back in school and into their
new routines, the learning is cer-tainly beginning to develop within the Primary School from Founda-tion Stage to Year 6. This week, even the Tiny Tigers Playgroup opened its doors, our Patana fami-ly from 1 year to 18 years old are together once again!
On Tuesday, I was able to share the school’s main learning priori-ties for this academic year with a large group of parents.
Here are some of the highlights: Born to Learn – if you have time
to watch this YouTube video, it explains the importance of your child’s development from Nursery to adolescence and how we can help support and challenge chil-dren to achieve their potential . Please note this is an external vid-eo and we are not affiliated with suggestions for other videos that appear at the end:

Growth Mindset – continue to develop the traits of the growth mindset within our children. Give them the opportunities to: learn new things even if it is hard
or risky see failure as a first attempt in
learning put in as much effort as they can
be open to all types of feedback – this is how we learn and grow Assessment-Capable Learners –
children who are able to articulate responses to these three main questions:
Where am I now? Where am I going? How am I going to get there?
Please ask your children at home, for example, where they are within their literacy learning, what skills they are developing today/this week, how they will do this.
The importance of PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Edu-cation) and Digital Literacy at Bangkok Patana – providing stu-dents with the key elements to be successful global citizens. A key date for your diary is Digital Learn-er and Digital Literacy workshop date to be held on Monday 28th September. Brian Taylor will be
leading this session. Reporting – we will be reviewing
our reporting system this academ-ic year to evaluate if it is fit for purpose and what effective chang-es we need to make if this is not the case. This consultation will be led by Jason Cooper, Assistant Principal Learning and Curriculum, and will include parental, staff and leadership feedback as well as looking at models from other in-ternational schools.
It is working together as a group, sharing open and honest feedback with each other, that we seek to fulfil the potential of every stu-dent at Bangkok Patana.
I look forward to working with you this academic year. With kind regards, Clare Sharp Primary Principal

uring September, aca-demic staff will have the
opportunity to attend profession-al development workshops facili-tated by two world renowned educationalists: Dr Dylan Wiliam and Clive Leach. As well as pre-senting to staff, parents will also be invited to hear them speak.
Dr Dylan Wiliam, the world's fore-most authority on formative assess-ment will be pre-senting to staff on Friday 18th Sep-tember, a school
closure day for students. In the evening, there will be a presenta-tion for parents at 6:00pm.
Children beginning school this year are likely still to be working in the final quarter of the 21st century. This means that no
matter how much they learn at school, it won't be enough, be-cause most of what they need to know for their lives—both inside and outside the world of work—hasn't been discovered or invent-ed yet. And while there are those that claim to be able to predict what kinds of skills will be needed in the future, the truth is we just don't know. The idea that chil-dren should learn how to learn used to be an optional extra; now it is a survival skill. Science, tech-nology and mathematics will be important in the future, but so will subjects like music, drama, dance, and art, partly because they play a role in helping people live fulfilled lives, but also be-cause these subject emphasise creativity more than other sub-jects, and creativity is the one thing we know machines can't do. Dylan Wiliam will outline the role of parents, teachers and school leaders to ensure that young peo-ple take control over their lives, appreciate their culture, make a difference in the world, and find
rewarding work. Click here to sign up for Dylan
Wiliam’s workshop. Clive Leach (M.Org. Coaching) will be returning to Bangkok Patana this time to work
with the Year 8 students and tu-tors from 24th – 25th September. Parents from across the school will also be invited to hear him present on positive education on Friday 25th September at 8:00am.
Clive Leach will talk about the strengths, mental toughness, re-silience and mindfulness ap-proaches that are relevant for all children whatever their age and which are also good for parent well-being too.

families, A warm welcome to
the new families join-ing our group this year. We are calling for your participation and contribu-tion. New members kindly please send your contact information and current members, please update us if there are any changes. China Rep: Mr. Yu Liu 0819981188 [email protected] Hong Kong Rep.: Ms. Mabel Tse 0844275431 [email protected]
International Day will be held on 10th and 11th November, so the preparations need to start very soon. We intend to have our first meeting in the last week of September, stay tuned for more details. If there are any queries, please feel free to contact us. Looking forward to meeting you all soon.
With regards, Liu Yu and Mabel
nternational Day is one of the highlights of the academic
year, and certainly one which stu-dents remember long after they leave Bangkok Patana School. The day begins with a parade of coun-tries into the Sports Hall, followed by the International Day Assembly. The Expo Hall is open on both days with information booths set up by different countries. The Food Hall gives countries a chance to share their national flavours with stu-dents and staff.
Plans have already begun for this year's event. A list of country repre-sentatives is on the next page. Please contact your representative so that they can keep you updated on the plans for your country. If your country is not listed, please let us know.
We are also looking for volunteers for the Expo and the Food Hall. if you can help, please email: [email protected].
The Transport Department has had over 170 new enrolments since the start of the school year. We welcome all our new Transport users and ask our existing users to be aware that many routes will need to be changed as new enrolments are accommodat-ed. We also have a small percentage of students who have moved addres, which will also require changes to existing routes. We continue to mon-itor the changes and arrival time of the buses to school and will make amendments as deemed necessary. Thank you for your patience and un-derstanding if these changes impact your child’s bus arrangements.
We currently transport 1,228 stu-dents to and from school each day. We aim to ensure that every route is efficient, arrives on time and every student has a safe and pleasant jour-ney to and from school. If you have any concerns about your child’s bus please email : [email protected].
Please note that the afternoon bus for your child may be different each day due to the different mix of stu-dents departing at the various times relating to their ECAs. Any changes to your child’s ECA schedule must be communicated to the Transport De-partment to ensure the necessary
adjustments are made. Please remind your child that seat-
belts MUST be worn at all times and MUST NOT be undone during the journey. Your help in reminding your child about the importance of safety on the school transport service is very much appreciated.
Please communicate all changes regarding your child’s transport in advance by emailing [email protected] or by phone: 02 785 2470.
