14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. [James 2:14-17]
Greetings in the name of the risen Lord! It is March and we are
firmly in the season of Lent. Lent is a season of self-reflection; it is a
time where we take stock of our lives and turn from our sin and
embrace Christ for forgiveness. It is also historically a time where
the church fasts to deny oneself and draws closer to God in the midst
of that denial.
On the Lenten theme I wanted to highlight the above verse and ask
you as members of the Lutheran Church of our Savior to pray. We
recently purchased the property next door and members of the
committee for the downs’ drive house have been diligently praying
and meeting to discuss how God may be using that property to bless
people.
Two independent contractors were commissioned to look at the house
– and praise God the foundation, while clearly skewed, is not falling
anymore and is perfectly stable. Both contractors said that the house
was altogether usable. In addition, the roof was inspected by two
independent roofers and it was stated that the roof is perfectly fine.
Therefore, the committee believes the house is altogether usable and
safe for right now.
Pastor’s Message continued...
Issue No. 3 Page 2
Therefore, the question before the congregation is whether we should use the house for one of
two purposes:
We have had LifePointe Church representatives address the committee. They are
beginning a, “restore” house for women for transitional living. They have two houses
already and they are beginning their ministry in March. We could allow them to utilize
this house for their transitional housing of women. They would provide the professional
workers to manage the participants, while we would simply minister to the women that
would be in the house.
*The genesis of us getting this house was beginning a, “women’s shelter” but the cost
was simply too much for us to bear. This would satisfy that original desire as LifePointe
would bear the administrative costs and we would provide the property and some ministry.
We could continue to utilize the house as it is now – as an A.L.I.C.E. [Asset Limited In-
come Constrained, Employed.] Currently we have a family that is income constrained yet
employed and working towards independence for the family. There is a husband, wife, and
young child living there. They live there for limited funds [they cover utilities and
insurance]. Our county, and our congregation, has many people that are income constrained
where they simply need time to get financially stable.
These are the two options for the house that we are discussing. Of course if we were to go with
option 1 we would have to finish the ministry to the current occupants of the house and then
move to that transitional living for women; or we could continue to utilize the house as we are
now – assisting ALICE families in our congregation.
As your pastor, I am totally in favor of either option. I truly believe both options fulfill what
the Apostle James writes above. We are the church of God ministering to needy people
attempting to assist them to live the life in the Kingdom of God that they are called to live.
As we go through Lent, please keep the property next door in prayer. Keep yourselves and us
in prayer. Travel through Lent repentant, prayerful, and focused on expanding the Kingdom –
and may God’s peace rest on you through Christ.
Your pastor and friend,
Rev. Christopher Ogne

Living in Faith…. Faith is….. “Remembering Whose we are”
In the Word "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! “ (1 John 3:1a )
Of the Word
The story is told of a boy who was leaving home for college. At the breakfast table his father asked God to pro-tect him and to grant success in his career. Rising from the table, the young man expected to receive some final bit of advice or instruction. He was surprised when the older man merely placed a hand on his son’s shoulder, looked at him with love, and said, “My boy, remember whose son you are!” We Christians, too, are children temporarily away from our Father’s House. We need to be reminded of whose we really are: His sons and daughters. With faith in Jesus we know we are adopted into God’s holy family. He has given us His name in Baptism. Faith is that wonderful father-child relationship into which God’s Spirit has brought us. What a blessing for us!
Walking with my Lord Thank You, Father, for reminding me of who I am. Help me to remember that I belong to You and that You have placed me here for Your glory. In Christ’s name. Amen. Mustard Seed: Living in Faith. Author: Rev. Darold Reiner.

LCOOS YOUTH HAPPENINGS … Hello friends!! On Saturday, February 15, fifteen of our youth met up at Sky Zone in Waldorf for some team building activities and fellowship. All who attended enjoyed an evening filled with fun & laughter. On Friday, March 6, our youth will meet at church at 6pm to prepare and serve a spaghetti dinner for the Safe Nights residents as a part of our outreach program. We are gearing up for our Philly Fuge mission trip this summer and we’re kicking off our first fundraiser this year at Roy Rogers in La Plata on March 8th from 5-8pm. A portion of all proceeds during that time will be donated to our youth. So, please come out for an evening meal or a scrumptious snack and support our youth! Our Philly Fuge mission trip is coming up early this summer. From June 22-27, our youth will be the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to many of the needy people in Philadelphia. To
learn more about this fun and humbling experience, we would encourage you to visit their website at https://www.fugecamps.com/mfuge/. Please sign up in the Narthex if you plan on attending this event. Youth Bible Study is held every Wednesday evening at 6:15 pm and Sunday mornings at 10 am. We want to encourage all of our youth to come and join us! Thanks again to all parents and members of our congregation for your continued love and support!

Hello Church Family! If you are unaware, we have a "Stephen Ministry" here at LCOOS, which is a lay caring ministry being used by thousands of congregations to increase care and outreach to hurting people. Through Stephen Ministry, congrega-tions are able to equip and empower a team of laypeople—Stephen Minis-ters—who provide one-to-one, Christ-centered care to people experiencing grief, unemployment, hospitalization, loneliness, divorce, financial stress, a terminal illness, or other life difficulties. All training is provided. If you have a heart for those who are struggling, please prayerfully consider becoming a Stephen Minister. We would love to have you join us! For more information, contact Pastor Ogne, Bev Linde, Adrienne Norwood, or Renee Nelson
IHS
This sacred monogram originally appeared as “IHC,” the first three letters
of “IHCOYC,” the Greek word for Jesus. Over time the Greek “C” was replaced by the Latin “S” to become “IHS.” There are many interpreta-
tions given to the letters “IHS,” including the Latin “Iesus Hominum Salvator” (Jesus, Savior of Men) and the English “I (Christ) Have Suf-
fered.”

"Who Are We Kidding?"
Isaiah 58:3-9 "'Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we hum-bled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?' Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers. Be-hold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the LORD? Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness."
Have you ever done something and not really had your heart in it? It's hard keeping up the façade. So, we force a smile and press on—hoping we've made a good show of it to please the other person. But we're really eager to remove the mask hiding our insincerity. It appears people have been acting like this a long time. Ancient Israel was no stranger to the idea of keeping up appearances. In fact, they went to great lengths to put on outward displays of obedience to God, even stat-ing their case (which they assumed should be obvious to Him). No matter. Their heart wasn't into it, and they insulted God's knowledge by thinking He wouldn't see through their bogus charade (verses 6 -9). Jesus, too, rebuked false worship when He blasted the scribes and the Pharisees for their outward show and their hardness of hearts. Citing Isaiah, He said, "'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' You leave the com-
mandment of God and hold to the tradition of men" (see Mark 7:1 -13).
The sad thing is, this is our nature, too. This is our cursed pride. Near -sighted and deaf to others' needs, we maintain the sham, deceiving ourselves and more than happy to do it. But Christ has taken all of this to the cross—the pretense, the self-love, the glory-seeking, the game-playing, and false modesty. He's made an end of our sin, once and for all, through His shed blood, death, and glorious resurrection. In its place, He extends to us a new life of loving God and showing compassion to others. This life can be yours, too.
THE PRAYER: Dear Jesus, "take our lives and let them be, consecrated, Lord, to Thee." In Your Name. Amen .
This Daily Devotion was written by Paul Schreiber .

PROPERTY REPORT:
DOWNS DRIVE PROPERTY
* The committee has held two meetings, January 4, 2020 and February 1, 2020. We would investigate (1)
house, repairs and costs, if needed, (2) property in the house and garage, and (3) what ministry to consider
for the property.
THE HOUSE CONDITION:
* We had two different companies check the foundation and the roof of the house.
* Both companies informed us that the foundation is sound and not in need of repair.
* Both companies reported that the shingles on the roof are in good shape and if there are no water leaks in
the attic, then no repairs are necessary on the roof.
* Joe Gronau and Steve Holton inspected inside of the roof in the attic and there was not any sign of water
leaks or wet rafters.
* The plumbing in the house is in good condition.
* The electrical outlets need updating. Joe Gronau will inspect and report on his findings.
* Outside cleanup work is being done by several members.
PROPERTY IN THE HOUSE:
1) Garage: Steve and Joe did an inventory and have completed a list and value.
2) The committee is recommending a silent auction for the property with LCOOS members being in
formed of the date and time of the auction.
3) An inventory of the property inside the house has not been done since the house is occupied by Joe and
Stephanie Butler. An inventory will be done at a later date when the house is vacant.
MINISTRY FOR THE PROPERTY:
Tanja Katrin advised the committee about a ministry that Life Point Church has that helps women in need. She said she
would have a representative attend our February meeting.
Life Point Church representative, Tiffany Barber told the committee about their ministry for assistance of women who
have been abused, just released from the detention center, and other circumstances that have left them in need of tempo-
rary housing. Their ministry will be starting on March 1st . They would not be able to use our house until after Novem-
ber 1st . We will stay in touch with Tiffany Barber regarding this ministry to keep informed as to how it is proceeding.
The committee meets for the last time on March 7th and will submit a final report to the council.
