ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI/

Francis' brotherhood included all of God's creation. It’s not just that Francis loved nature, but he really felt that nature, all of God's creations, were part of his brotherhood. The sparrow was as much his brother as the pope. In one famous story, Francis preached to hundreds of birds about being thankful to God for their wonderful clothes, for their independence, and for God's care. The story tells us the birds stood still as he walked among them, only flying off when he said they could leave.

EL APOCALIPSIS CLIMÁTICO ES REAL Y SE ACERCA Como el Papa Francisco nos ha enseñado en su encíclica Laudato Si 'de 2015, hacer los cambios que necesitamos hacer requerirá una conversión tanto individual como sistémica porque requerirá un sacrificio a una escala enorme. Todas las personas deben reducir su huella de carbono, pero los sistemas económicos también deben cambiar. THE CLIMATE APOCALYPSE IS REAL, AND ITS COMING

As Pope Francis has taught us in his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si', to make the changes we need to make will take both individual and systemic conversion because it will require sacrifice on an enormous scale. Every person must reduce their carbon footprint, but economic systems must also change. Economists recommend carbon taxes to discourage carbon consumption, but regulations will also be needed to force businesses to do the right thing despite market forces. Currently, this seems politically impossible because there is no sense of urgency among the public. In the COVID crisis, it took thousands of deaths each month to convince America to take the pandemic seriously, and still some do not. If we cannot respond to a crisis we can see right now, how will we respond to a crisis in the future that too many refuse to see?

My only consolation is that Catholicism, through the pope, is on the right side of history for once. Sadly, too few of our bishops are following him and doing anything about the crisis. When was the last time you heard your bishop speak out on climate change?

As Pope Francis said, concern for the environment can no longer be an optional or secondary aspect of Christianity. It must be central to who we are as Christians. We must care for God's creation; we must protect the Earth and all that lives on it. Otherwise, our children and grandchildren will experience the apocalypse. (from National Catholic Reporter)

GODS LAW MEANT TO BRING FREEDOM<NOT LIFELONG SERVITUDE VATICAN CITY — The purpose of the law in Christian life is not to forcibly subjugate others, but to teach men and women the way to obtain true freedom in Christ, Pope Francis said during his weekly general audience. The "function of the law is certainly positive but limited in time."

"It cannot extend its duration too far, because it is linked to the maturation of individuals and their choice of freedom," he said.

St. Paul, the pope said, compares the law to a disciplinarian, which "is a beautiful image that deserves to be understood in its correct meaning." In the apostle's view, he explained, the role of the law was changed after Christ's death and resurrection.

The pope said St. Paul's use of the expression implies "the idea of a negative servitude, typical of slaves. For

Christians, the law serves the same purpose until "one has come to faith," then it "must give way to another

authority."

"It is good for us to ask ourselves if we still live in the period in which we need the law, or if instead we are fully aware of having received the grace of becoming children of God so as to live in love," the pope said.

Why do we celebrate Our Lady of the Rosary ?

According to Dominican tradition, in 1206, St. Dominic received a vision of the Blessed Virgin, who gave him the rosary as a tool against heretics. While Mary's giving the rosary to St. Dominic is generally acknowledged as a legend, the development of this prayer form (praying the rosary) owes much to the followers of St. Dominic, the Dominicans.

This feast was formerly known as Our Lady of Victory because it celebrated the decisive victory of the fleet of the Christian countries over the Ottoman (Turkish Muslim) navy at the Battle of Lepanto.

In 1571, Pope Pius V organized a coalition of forces from Catholic countries. On October 7,1571 these forces defeated a powerful Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto. The Pope called for all of Europe to pray the Rosary for victory, and led a rosary procession in Rome. This defeat prevented the Ottomans from attacking Italy and the rest of Europe.

OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY

What is it?

The tabernacle is a liturgical furnishing used to house the Eucharist outside of Mass. This provides a location where the Eucharist can be kept for the adoration of the faithful and for later use (e.g., distribution to the sick). It also helps prevent the profanation of the Eucharist.
