I thought I would make a dent in my stack of books, but I haven’t even had a chance to open even one of them. I had never even heard of Zoom before the quarantine, but now I spend 10-15 hours a week on Zoom meetings of one sort of another. I can hardly wait for the day when I can delete Zoom off all of my devices! However, then the governor told us to work from home, so we didn’t get to clean and disinfect then. My original plan was the continue to record worship from the sanctuary with Janet on piano. However, then the Door County authorities told me that I should not be traveling up to Door County, so those plans got scrapped, and I had to turn an extra bedroom in my house into my worship space. I will miss the amazing staff I got to work with…. believe me- they do more than you can imagine and are awesome! I will miss you! Thank you for the privilege of serving you. Thank you for all the help, love and support you have given me.

I have Blood Pressure records for about 50 members of our church. These are considered medical records. I would like to return them to you and not store them for years in the church. When we can meet again, I will be happy to give them to you if you stop in my office.

I will continue to work with the Grief Support Group, Healing from the Loss of a Spouse.

I am so looking forward to spending sunny days in my yard, flower and vegetable gardens, going for walks and rides with

As some of you already know, I handed in my resignation from the position on staff as your Parish Nurse. The first reason being the financial situation at church, and the second, and probably the biggest reason, is that I am ready to retire – Really retire, for sure this time!

The Divorce Care Program will be taken over for now by Pastor Peter at Tanum Forest. He will need a partner from BVLC to work with. I am hoping someone will feel lead to step into a leadership role to continue this important ministry for our community and church.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: COMMUNITY SHARING GARDEN!!!

Do you love to dig in the dirt? Do you love to see produce grow as you care for it? Are you seeking a service opportunity to do as a family while you social distance this summer? Here is a way to do what you enjoy as you care for others. We do not want to gather in groups there as we work, so a huge thank you to Paula

Wendland for agreeing to be the phone contact person. She will keep track of who is at the garden when, so just call her before you go to work/water there. Her number is 920 743-2183. We need some more

volunteers to water and care for the garden. Can you give one day a week, or a month? A great big thank you to those who have contributed by planting garlic, potatoes, peppers, cucumbers, red cabbage etc. There is still

a little more room for things. The watering has gotten easier and only takes about 15-20 minutes of time. There is a hose with a sprayer on the side of church that reaches to the garden. To turn the faucet on there is a

faucet handle hanging in the trash shed to back of church. Please do not leave it on the faucet as we do not want the water turned on without being attended. A picture below of the progress of the garden.

Flat Jesus was there too!

BOOK CLUB

The July book discussion has been canceled. Bay View Book Club will next meet on October 7, 2020 to discuss the book, Sold on Monday.

The sign is a last resort. It sits on a farmhouse porch in 1931, but could be found anywhere in an era of breadlines, bank runs, and broken dreams. It could have been written by any mother facing impossible choices. For struggling reporter Ellis Reed, the gut-wrenching scene evokes mem-ories of his family's dark past. He snaps a photograph of the children, not meant for publication. But when it leads to his big break, the conse-quences are more devastating than he ever imagined. At the paper, Lillian Palmer is haunted by her role in all that happened.

She is far too familiar with the heartbreak of children deemed unwanted. As the bonds of motherhood are tested, she and Ellis must decide how much they are willing to risk to mend a fractured family. Inspired by an actual newspaper photograph that stunned the nation, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of love, redemption, and the unexpected paths that bring us home.

Call Activity. After the creation of a Call Committee, Bay View has been waiting for the oppor-tunity to interview candidates for a new senior pastor. Our committee has done their job and our invitation has been pub-lished for a number of months. We are ready to talk with a new pastor, but we have not received any responses. The Call Commit-tee is in constant touch with the Bishop and will be looking for opportunities to interest pastors in our congregation.

COVID virus. For several months, we have been limited in our worship and our ability to keep in touch as the pandemic has caused the closing of many activities, including church ser-vices. Our synod has been care-fully watching the process and heeding the warnings of medi-cal professionals about the risk of infection from personal con-tact. For our part, we have

opened up video conferencing opportunities, posted news on our church website, and kept in touch by email and video confer-encing.

Pastor Beth is sharing new infor-mation and opportunities about worship opportunities. Also, the synod is helping individual con-gregations to create a task force to address reopening churches in a safe and responsible man-ner as quickly as possible. A Webinar is scheduled on June 16

th to look for solutions. When

we know more, we will share the news. Meanwhile, we will keep in touch with you with email and Facebook and video conferencing. We hope that joint worship can return to Bay View.

Yours in Christ,

Steve Kase, President Bay View Church Council

Following recent news from the Bishop and positive develop-ments concerning the COVID virus, we are planning for re-newal in the coming weeks. Three areas of concern at our council meeting this past week are important to review. Those are: the Budget, the Call, and the Virus. Each has a substantial impact on our future and each needs your support in finding a solution as we move into the summer.

Budget. In simple terms, we are spending more than we receive in gifts and donations. Curious-ly, the last two months have turned things around. Dona-tions and revenues from federal grants and loans are keeping us ahead for the time being. How-ever, we are looking carefully at cutting expenses where we can so that expenses don’t exceed our monthly revenues.

If anyone has a friend, relative, college, etc. that might be looking for a new pastoral calling, please ask them to check out our Missionary Site Profile.

Dear Bay View Church Family,

How are you? We’re all wondering. Are you and your family feeling ok? Do you need anything? How are the kids? What’s keeping you occupied?

Take a moment to check in with us by submitting a brief update to the new section of our Church Newsletter…it’s all about YOU! Since we’re unable to see each other in person, sharing updates, announcements, stories, pictures and prayer requests is a great way for us to stay connected. Don’t be shy! Whatever you decide to submit, we’re all going to be thrilled to hear from you!

Greetings on this Monday, June 22. Our lives here at Pine Crest Village have changed like eve-ryone else. No visitors into the building, but we can see family and others outdoors here and that helps. I listened and watched the Sunday, 21

st

church service with Confirmation. I want to thank Pr Beth and the young folks in charge of the ser-vice. They all did a great job under difficult situa-tions. Bless them all, their parents and families. I certainly, among many others, miss being at wor-ship in the church, but since we ALL are in this together, we can ALL say, we know it will be bet-ter someday soon. “Hope and Grace Abounds!”

devotions offered by four heads of communion

mate of the Anglican Church of Canada.

“I pray that these reflections will open hearts and minds to expe-rience our relationship in and with all of creation in new ways,” said Nicholls.

In the opening devotion, the leaders stress the significance of a collective responsibility in car-ing for creation. “Waking up to matters of climate justice and environmental stewardship are among the most important call-ings people have today. Over many years, through many voic-es, our churches have come to a growing conviction that loving our neighbour includes loving Mother Earth as a neighbour.”

“It is timely, relevant and exciting for our churches to join together in prayer, worship and reflection during the Season of Creation,” said Johnson. “With open hearts, minds and souls may we discern new actions and practices to show love for God’s creation.”

“In this season of activism as we seek God’s liberating, life-giving love for all, may these prayers and devotions inspire us to care for a world in which all creation can flourish,” said Curry. The relations among the four churches have moved more closely toward “mutual recogni-tion,” bringing into mutual rela-tion the two churches of “Called to Common Mission” in the Unit-ed States and those of the Wa-terloo Declaration in Canada. One notable feature of the agreement is that it cites the ex-perience of Indigenous people

CHICAGO (June 24, 2020) — The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Luther-an Church in America (ELCA), and leaders from The Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lu-theran Church in Canada have prepared a series of devotions to observe the Season of Creation 2020, Sept. 1–Oct. 4.

The season, which begins with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, is a time to join with the global Christian commu-nity in renewing, repairing and restoring commitments to God, to one another and to all of crea-tion. For the four churches, it is also a time for strengthening re-lationships with one another. Through Scripture, hymns, advo-cacy and action, the weekly de-votions, which begin Sept. 6, in-vite people to live out their voca-tion as stewards of creation.

“We pray that our actions as stewards of God’s good creation will continue to deepen not only in this season, but for all time,” said Eaton. “Even as our relations as churches are not bound by national or ecclesiastical borders, neither is our witness to the One who came to redeem all of crea-tion.”

In addition to Eaton, the devo-tions were contributed by the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, pre-siding bishop and primate, The Episcopal Church; the Rev. Susan C. Johnson, national bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada; and the Most Rev. Lin-da Nicholls, archbishop and pri-

“not divided by national borders established by colonialist power” as grounds for expanding shared life among the churches. A Memorandum of Mutual Recognition (MMR) was ap-proved by both Canadian churches in July 2019. The 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly adopted constitutional changes embracing the Anglican Church of Canada, and in November 2019 the Church Council adopt-ed the MMR. Once The Episco-pal Church acts, the mutual recognition of the four churches will come into full effect.

The Season of Creation devo-tions are available here.

Home wanting to know what our process and procedure is for reopening. They can now have services with immediate family only in attendance. We have some families waiting to have memorial services. Are we ready to open up to this? a. This item will be referred to

FINANCIAL REPORT:

May 2020 receipts were $35,864, expenses were $25,013. We also received $10,000 Disaster Funds.

REPORTS FROM THE MISSION BOARDS AND COMMITTEES:

a. Worship (Karen I.) – no report b. Sharing (Karen I.) – no report c. Youth (Karen N.) – no report d. Finance (Lucille) – In the meeting earlier tonight, Steve asked: how much of the restricted funds money we could use for general expenses; accounts not tied to specific purposes.

The least restrictive answer is $85,000. This number excludes the Community Emergency Fund, Youth Fund raising accounts, the Youth Triennial Gathering money, BV Builds, etc. It does include funds such the Cookbook Fund where we ask the persons originating the fund for consent and Memorial Funds, some of which are designated for specific purposes.

Dawn asked if we could pay bills and salaries in July:

In our

have to rely on others’ devices to post worship either recorded or live.

• I have been going into the office about twice a week now that the Safer at Home order was struck down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court decision. Cheryl and I typically make sure we are not in the building at the same time in order to easily maintain appropriate social distancing.

For Council Review/Action: We need to make some decisions about how to move forward toward reopening the church building and in-person worship. There are three things we need to decide tonight: 1. The synod staff has requested

that every congregation put together a task force to put together a plan toward reopening. There will be a training via zoom with the synod office in the next few weeks to help make a plan. We need to decide if we are putting one together (which I would suggest we do), and then we need to put one together. a. A CONGREGATIONAL task

force will put together in the next week and they will attend an informational meeting on June 16

th.

2. Some of the groups which use our building are starting to inquire about using our building once again for meetings of less than 10 people. We need to decide if we are ready to do that – using social distancing and facemasks, etc. a. This item will be referred to

the Congregational task force on reopening our facilities. (Cont. on page 12)

main checking account at the end of May, the balance was $55,000. This amount does NOT include the PPP money we have received which will pay salaries through June.

Expenses, including salaries, over the last two years have averaged about $28,000 per month..

Giving so far this year - NOT including the federal grant or the PPP monies has averaged about $26,000 per month.

The BVIII restricted fund account has $8400, enough to cover payments for 5 months (through January) after the forbearance ends in Sept.

So yes, we should be able to pay salaries and bills in July, and beyond.

Assuming giving and expenses remain approximately the same as they have this year so far, and having the $10,000 emergency grant. we should be able to cover expenses for the remainder of the year, hopefully, without dipping into restricted funds.

e. Property (Steve) – no report f. Evangelism and Media (Renee) – no report g. Personnel (Dawn) –

• Lou Ann Brown, Parish Nurse, will be retiring as

of July 1st. The church

council will make the decision to continue to fill the position, carry it on the books and filled at a later date, or eliminate the position.

• Paula Sullivan, Parish Bookkeeper, will be resigning from her position as soon as possible (within the next two months).

• Sunshine House cleaning contract has been terminated. The position will not be filled until activity inside the building resumes.

• Rewriting of the Personnel Practice Manual was brought up and Kerry sent out revisions to be reviewed by the personnel group for their input and legal advise.

h. Fellowship (Connie) – no report i. Learning (Jody) – • Affirmation of Baptism

will be recorded June 17

posted to the church website.

• Crossways season has been cancelled.

• Fundraising ideas Bingo night (could

j. Service (Andy) – no report k. Call Committee –

• With no activity from the synod, the call committee has developed several strategies that we will be pursuing over the next 30-60 days. We will be attempting approaches that may be a bit non-traditional that hopefully will bring attention to our needs, which in turn may bring a candidate to us.

PASTOR BETH CONT’D

The good news is that we finally have a task force in place to explore what we have to do in order to reopen for in-person worship. We are working diligently to make some decisions about in-person meetings, in-person worship, and weddings and funerals in the sanctuary. As soon as those decisions are in place, we will communicate them with the whole congregation.

I found a quote from John Ortberg, a Presbyterian pastor in California, about waiting:

Biblically, waiting is not just something we have to do until we get what we want. Waiting is part of the process of becoming what God wants us to be.

No matter what is going on in our lives, God has his plan for us in play. We Christians don’t have to wait for God, he is with us all the time. Say a prayer. Do a good deed. No waiting on the road to heaven; just living on God’s schedule.

Cont. from pg 1

We’ve had some of our recent Sunday services aired live from the Sanctuary. It was good to see the inside of the church again. It was good to see Pastor Beth behind the altar and hear Janet at the piano. It makes me want to get back into that building. But we can’t, not yet.

So we wait. Bay View is also working to call a permanent pastor. According to the synod, there are very few candidates and so far we have received no persons to consider.

So we wait. Some of us wait better than others. Instead of just spinning our wheels, many of us have found ways to use time constructively. We do good deeds. Anytime we can do something positive, we are not just waiting; we are living! We are following God’s instruction to care for one another.

As I begin this article I am waiting for a return call from the doctor. I’ve been dealing with a painful sciatica issue this past week and called the doctor early this morning to see if he could suggest a safe but effective dose of Ibuprofen for the pain. The dosage on the bottle is just not doing the trick.

So I wait. Waiting is the worst, isn’t it? I don’t know anyone who likes to wait. Even when we are waiting for something unpleasant (like a surgery or a dental procedure) we just want to get to it and get it over with.

The world has been waiting for months for COVID 19 to be taken care of. We wait for the news of a vaccine and an effective treatment. We wait to get the all clear that we can go about our lives without fear of contracting that particular disease. We don’t have that yet. So we wait. While the scientific world is working toward answers, we wait.

I hope to see you all sooner rather than later. In the meantime, please know that the church staff continues to work and to keep us connected. Please feel free to contact me. My e-mail address is [email protected]. You can also call or text my cell phone: 920-562-2853.

Council minutes (Cont. from page 12)

Because so many communities are canceling their July 4th celebrations, Janet and I are working on some-thing special to celebrate Independence Day. On Sunday, July 5th at 6:00 pm, we will be holding a Praise and Prayer Service in the Bay View Church parking lot, weather permitting (we don’t have a rain date cho-sen).

• park in the parking lot

• leave a car’s width between your car and the next car (you will have to use your best judgment because the parking lot is not lined - 8 1/2 feet is typical)

• open your car window

• you might want to wear a mask because of the open car window

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Are you able to drive? Would you be willing to take your neighbor to an appointment? Helping your neighbors get where they need to go is what the Door-Tran Volunteers do best and we are looking for a few more drivers that are willing to join us. Our volunteers choose their availability, driving once a week or maybe only once a month. The schedule is flexible, you are reimbursed for your mileage, and best of all you get to make a difference in the lives of the members of your community. Please call Door-Tran at 920-743-9999 or visit www.Door-Tran.org for more information.
