A variety of factors dictate whichbowl size and type is best for yourapplication. Factors such as part sizeand configuration, part abrasiveness, condition of the part when handled, feed rate and direction (clockwise orcounterclockwise) are just a few of thefactors which affect bowl selection.

Because there is such a wide selec-tion of Syntron® bowls to use with

the EB-A drive, FMC Technologiesanalyzes your specific part and recom-mends the appropriate bowl for opti-mum feed rate and positioning.

On the following page is a break-down of our bowl nomenclature, witheach number and letter representing aspecific feature or dimension.

Syntron® Outside Track Bowls

The Outside Track (O.T.)Bowl is most commonly recog-nized for use in applicationsrequiring moderate-to-high feedrates, multiple lines of feed, orwhere intricate tooling is requiredto properly orient the part.

FMC Technologies craftsmencreate an outside track bowl bytaking a basic stainless steel bowlcore and adding an outside trackand return pan. The outside trackportion houses all of the special-ized tooling needed to bring thepart to its desired orientation.Parts that are incorrectly posi-tioned fall from the track into thereturn pan for re-circulation.Correctly oriented parts advanceto the discharge.

Because every application isunique, an appropriate bowl diam-eter, tooling technique and trackdesign will be selected to obtainyour desired feed rate and orienta-tion.

Versatile Pitch Designs

FMC Technologies manufac-tures the O.T. Bowl with two dif-ferent inside track pitches; a stan-dard track pitch as well as a lowtrack pitch (pitch refers to the ver-tical distance between part trackson the inside of the bowl).

Most applications use our stan-dard track pitch, however thereare applications where a low pitchis beneficial. The pitch is contin-

gent upon the size, shape, weightand general condition of the part, along with its profile. Parts thatrequire a low bowl stroke toobtain orientation generally favora low-pitch design. Parts that tendto coast backward when being fed,or parts with minimal contact sur-face are also examples.

Special pitches can be providedif required.

Additional Features

Constructed of 304 stainlesssteel, the Outside Track Bowl fea-tures a minimum-to-maximum dis-charge height that is generally pre-determined based on the degree of

tooling required to obtain thedesired part orientation and feedrate.

If your application requireshigh feed rates, O.T. Bowls can bedesigned with multiple lines offeed, with each line completelytooled to correctly orient the part.Once the lines are oriented, theparts converge back to one line offeed to produce extremely highfeed rates.

Optional bowl linings are avail-able for noise reduction, enhancedpart feeding and abrasive partshandling applications.

The Cascade Bowl serves as an economical approach to parts han-dling applications. Although primarily used for applications havingmoderate feed rates and storage requirements, Cascade Bowls are lesscostly than more involved outside track designs. The Cascade differsfrom the O.T. Bowl because it has no internal "over and under" tracks, and has no outside tracking.

Typically, Cascade Bowls are used in applications where parts couldwedge between the tracks; parts such as large, rectangular parts or oth-ers having elongated shapes. The simple cascade design is ideal for sys-tems integration or where low headroom and limited space exists.

For most applications, we recommend that the Cascade Bowl beused with a parts feeder drive built to operate on rectified current (RC),providing 3600 vibrations per minute.

Available in cast aluminum or fabricated stainless steel, each bowltype provides numerous features and benefits. If required, the stainlesssteel bowl can be easily fabricated to meet FDA specifications.

Syntron® Pre-Tooled Bowl DesignsWith Standard Adjustable Features For Do-It-Yourself Part Orientation

UniversalFour Standard Orienting Features

The stainless steel Universal Bowl comes complete with four adjustable tool-ing features. The wiper, track plate, back pressure plate and discharge section areall adjustable for use with parts which require basic orientation techniques. Thisstandard bowl allows the user to complete his own orientation. This bowl isavailable in three sizes: 14, 18 and 24-inch diameters, all available in either clock-wise or counterclockwise feed direction. The correct bowl for your applicationdepends on the size and configuration of the parts to be handled.

Track Ledge andadjustable Back PressurePlate

Will divert overfeed of partsinto bowl without jamming.

Adjustable Wiper

A vertical adjustment fea-ture that eliminates dou-bles, producing singlelayers of parts. Also canbe used to wipe off partsstanding on edge.

Adjustable discharge section

Solid bottom track withadjustable wall and hood con-fines parts in their final dis-charge position.

All PurposeSix Standard Orienting Features

The All-Purpose Bowl offers even greater flexibility because it allows the cus-tomer to orient parts with the use of six adjustable orienting features. These fea-tures come standard on an 18-inch cascade bowl that has a 1-1/4-inch wide spiraltrack. Because it is a standard, stock item, it is a cost-effective alternative to ourcustom-tooled bowls. The All-Purpose bowl is capable of handling different partsor multiple sizes of the same part with a few, minor adjustments. Parts up to 2inches long, not exceeding 1-1/4-inches in width or diameter, can be easily han-dled. The size and configuration of the parts determine whether all or some ofthe six orienting devices are needed. This bowl is readily adaptable to the ModelEB-132-A parts feeder drive, and is only available in counter-clockwise feeddirection.

Adjustable Back PressureBaffle

Will divert overfeed of parts intothe bowl without jamming ormal-orienting the parts ahead inthe discharge section.

Adjustable Track and Keeper

Will hold orientation on cylindrical partsoriented with the longitudinal axis verticaland reject all other attitudes. By removingthe keeper and notching a slide plate, ori-entation on cup-shaped parts can beobtained with open side up.

Adjustable Step Riser

Raising or lowering riser to tum-ble parts into preferred position.Or the end of riser may benotched and an air jet added toassist in selecting one attitudeand rejecting all others.

Adjustable Discharge Section

With adjustable track to form rails forhanging parts or solid bottom track withside plates. Adjustable hood confines partsin their final or discharge position. An airjet, located mid-way in the discharge sec-tion, is used in hanging part applications.

Adjustable Wiper

A vertical adjustment featurethat eliminates doubles, produc-ing single layers of parts andwiping from the track partsstanding on edge.

Adjustable Track Plate

To single-file parts. Canalso be used as a sec-ondary notched track.
