Referencing the Windows Product Name

Product Name

When referencing Windows in text (vs. using a logo) please adhere to the following guidelines: • Never refer to the product simply as “8”. Always include Windows in the product name.• Never abbreviate Windows 8. For example, don’t call it Win8, W8, 8 or Win 8 Pro.• Do not include Microsoft in the name. The product is “Windows 8”, not “Microsoft Windows 8”.• Don’t use Windows 8 in the possessive, as in, “Windows 8’s security features are impressive.”

Instead say, “The security features of Windows 8 are impressive.”• Always use the numeral 8; do not spell out eight. The number 8 must not be localized in writing.

However, within a given market, the number 8 should be pronounced in the same manner that theversion numbers are typically pronounced in other Microsoft products.

• Where you include a trademark footnote to give notice of your own trademarks or third partytrademarks, you must add the following wording to the trademark footnote, when referring toWindows 8: “All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.”

TheofcialSKUnamesforWindows8shouldbereferredtoasfollows:• Windows 8• Windows 8 Pro Note: Trademark symbols are no longer required in marketing execution.
