IX. Additional Information

Please add here, or on another sheet, anything else which you would like the Patron and the Bishop to know about the conditions, needs and traditions of the parish. The Denholme Shared Church is the only sacred space for Christian worship and outreach within the community of Denholme.

• We are a small church with a heart for mission, our vision is to serve by demonstrating the love of Christ, caring for the lost and marginalised, proclaiming the Good News;

• We encourage lay leadership by supporting people’s gifts and talents;

• We count ourselves as blessed to have different backgrounds to draw upon and have richness through diversity

St Paul’s Church and Denholme Edge URC/Baptist Churches came together in 2006 to form the Denholme Shared Church. An LEP was subsequently established and the church meets, worships and operates as one single congregation. The constitution of the Shared Church vests the authority for decision making to the Shared Church Council, the membership of the Council is elected at the Annual Congregational Meeting and open to anyone on the church membership roll. The PCC subsists to deal with matters relating to the assets and resources of the former St. Paul’s Church, membership is restricted to those on the Parish electoral roll. There are two services each Sunday; a family oriented service at 9.30 am and a more conventional service at 11.15 am. The earlier service is led by our in-house worship team with occasional input from the Benefice team. The later service, alternating between Anglican and Free Church, takes the form of either morning worship or communion. These services are led by either ordained / licensed lay Anglican ministry or Free Church worship leaders, sometimes from within the Shared Church. The Church building is fully licensed for Anglican baptisms, weddings and funerals. As far as possible, we maintain an open approach in our response to requests for baptisms, weddings or funerals, respecting the various traditions within our three denominations. Our strengths:

• Strong lay leadership

• Pastoral care for one another

• Open to change, responsive to new ideas. Our weaknesses:

• Responsibilities rest on just a few of the members

• Not all our members have captured a vision for the future of Christian witness in Denholme

• Has clear strategic thinking and the ability to delegate, direct and encourage our church family;
