Dear Parishioners, Time has not stopped flying. I guess for the majority of us, this ending of the financial year was not in our plan at the start of this year but here we are in the last week of the financial year. Our plans may have been distorted but not the plans of God for us. One thing that has been our common experience is that in the fragility of our humanity, we have realised the beauty of our collective effort. We can now gather, go on holidays and visit our loved ones because we all have worked well together. In the last two weekends, we have had the joy of celebrating a bit of our Parish life as we have had up to 300 and 410 parishioners attend Masses in the two last weekends respectively. More than the number of attendance is the genuine humanity and communion that we have regained even amidst some restrictions. We are so blessed in this Parish to have a pool of selfless volunteers who have been serving us as Marshals, Ushers and Cleaners in keeping to the COVID Safe requirements for us to gather and celebrate Mass. We are still required to maintain a 4 square metres social distance in the church and so we encourage you to continue to register online with this link http://www.olol.com.au/massbookings.html to attend Mass. Note that some of our weekend Masses may be fully booked while others may have open spaces. If you register and found out that you will not make it to attend the mass, kindly cancel your booking on time to allow the space for another parishioner. Please follow the directions of our Marshals and Ushers as they will be at the front door to welcome you and walk you down the aisle to your seat. We thank you for your financial support and your contributions to our collection. There is always a Collection Box in the centre aisle where you can deposit your contribution to the Parish. The electronic Tap on machine is at the front door where you can make your contribution. If you would prefer a direct deposit into the Parish account, kindly call the Parish Office during office hours on 3345 3766 for details. I wish to acknowledge and to thank the Staff and Students of our Schools for successfully pulling through to the end of Term 2. It has been a very demanding term for the parents, carers, students and staff. Everyone involved in this term has really worked hard to adjust to the new normal. Congratulations and please enjoy your well-deserved holidays. We keep you in our prayers as we expect you back well and sound. Our Unite Teens have had their first post-COVID night on 26th June. Athira and our Youth Leaders are set to make the best out of our post-COVID Parish Youth experience. Parents, please support our kids to engage with their friends and mates in the UNITE Youth group. Some of our Parish groups have resumed their meetings in accordance to the COVID Safe requirements. The Bible Study group meet every Tuesday at 9.30am in the Media Room. The Legion of Mary has resumed their prayer meeting every Friday. The RCIA group is also meeting in order to continue their sacramental journey. The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Tuesday evening by 7.00pm has also resumed. Please call the parish office during office hours for more details. Your donations to the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal are highly appreciated and touching lives. Please find more details on page 3 of this newsletter. Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Year A

First Reading: 2 Kings 4: 8-11, 14-16 In showing hospitality to the wandering man of God, the woman recognises not Elisha, but the One who sent him. In return for this hospitality, Elisha promises her a share in the hospitable and generous love of God: she will hold a son in her arms. Second Reading: Romans 6: 3-4, 8-11 In what would have to be about the most beautiful part of Paul ’s Letter to the Romans, he reminds them of the life changing power of their baptism: nothing less than life in Christ. Gospel: Matthew 10: 37-42 The Missionary Discourse of Jesus to the Twelve continues...today Jesus

instructs the Twelve as to the both the conditions and the rewards of discipleship of him: even a cup of water given in

His’ name will be rewarded.

CHAPTER FOUR Signs of Holiness in Today’s World

IN CONSTANT PRAYER

147. Finally, though it may seem obvious, we should remember that holiness consists in a habitual openness to the transcendent, expressed in prayer and adoration. The saints are distinguished by a spirit of prayer and a need for communion with God. They find an exclusive concern with this world to be narrow and stifling, and, amid their own concerns and commitments, they long for God, losing themselves in praise and contemplation of the Lord. I do not believe in holiness without prayer, even though that prayer need not be lengthy or involve intense emotions.

148. Saint John of the Cross tells us: “Endeavour to remain always in the presence of God, either real, imaginative, or unitive, insofar as is permitted by your works”. In the end, our desire for God will surely find expression in our daily lives: “Try to be continuous in prayer, and in the midst of bodily exercises do not leave it. Whether you eat, drink, talk with others, or do anything, always go to God and attach your heart to him”.

149. For this to happen, however, some moments spent alone with God are also necessary. For Saint Teresa of Avila, prayer “is nothing but friendly intercourse, and frequent solitary converse, with him who we know loves us”. I would insist that this is true not only for a privileged few, but for all of us, for “we all have need of this silence, filled with the presence of him who is adored”. Trust-filled prayer is a response of a heart open to encountering God face to face, where all is peaceful and the quiet voice of the Lord can be heard in the midst of silence.

Care for our Common Home - Sustainable Living

One month ago, on the 24th May, Pope Francis announced a special Laudato Si’ Anniversary year until May 2021. He called

us to enter this time with true openness of heart to change for the earth, and for humanity, and for all God’s creatures. The urgency of the situation calls for immediate, holistic and unified

responses at all levels, personal, local, regional, national and international. Pope Francis goes on to say, we need, above all a people’s movement from below, an alliance of all people of good

will. In Laudato Si’ he wrote “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents”.

LS14. What initiatives will we as Our Lady of Lourdes parish and people undertake? How will we ‘join communities around the world in making us totally sustainable in the spirit of our Christian call”?

Lately, I ’ve been hearing people say things that are reminiscent of “going back to normal,” such as returning to the mundane daily act ivities of grocery shopping without stockpiling on toilet paper, hugging people, or eat ing a meal at a local restaurant instead of ordering to -go. I t ’s safe to say that the world is nostalgic for some sort of normalcy, whether that ’s sitt ing at our favourite coffee shop or favourite pew at Mass. I could name a hundred things I wish to do once everything reopens, maybe things I ’ve never done before or things that I miss dearly. This talk of normalcy is one that, I believe, can cause us to comfortably sett le into old habits instead of the newness Christ is invit ing us into. An abundance of good has happened because of social distancing. The natural world is f lourishing. Rivers and oceans are becoming cleaner. Air pollution is decreasing. The everyday hustle and bustle of cit ies is slowing down. Famil ies have been eat ing dinner under the same roof again… As we continue to do our part in slowing the spread of COVID -19, we start to see that the world around us is slowly being made new.
