ЗБІРКА ЇЖІ ТА ОДЯГУ ДЛЯ БЕЗПРИТУЛЬНИХ

Парафія далі робитиме збірку їжі та одягу для безпритульних. Буде дві коробки: одна для продуктів харчування і друга для одягу.

Просьба жертвувати консервовані продукти та продукти у фабричних упаковках, таких як; рис, макарони, крупи і т. д. Вся їжа має бути не прострочена, або ми змушені будемо її викинути.

Одяг має бути новим, або в доброму стані. На даний час ми збираємо одяг на сезон. Також можна жертвувати ковдри і господаські товари. ДУЖЕ ДЯКУЄМО ЗА ПІДТРИМКУ.

Наша парафія спонсорує виставку мистецтв та ремесел місцевих українських художників. Предмети для продажу включатимуть оригінальні твори мистецтва, вишивку, ювелірні вироби, кераміку та різдвяні прикраси, вишитий одяг та футболки від Віктора Лобзуна. Також будуть вареники, борщ, кава та солодке.

Проситься принести печиво для продажу. Нам потрібно стільки, скільки можливо.

ДЕНЬ СВЯТОГО МИКОЛАЯ.

В неділю, 16 грудня в нашій парафії, відразу після Святої Літургії відбудеться святкування Дня Святого Миколая. Всі парафіяни, та їхні родини, запрошуються до участі. Буде обід.

СЕСТРИЦТВО ОРГАНІЗОВУЄ ПЕРЕДРІЗДВЯНЕ СВЯТКУВАННЯ.

У п'ятницю, 21 грудня, сестрицтво проводить передріздвяне святкування для жінок нашої громади - членів та не членів. Рекомендується кожному принести якусь їжу і поділитися з іншими.

Ласкаво Запрошуємо всіх після Служби Божої до парафіяльної залі на солодощі, каву і товариство. Так відбуватиметься кожної неділі після Святої Літургії, якщо не буде якихось поминальних чи парафіяльних обідів. Дякуємо всім тим хто готував, або буде готувати цю перекуску.

Нам потрібні добровольці. Сестрицтво має в наявності тарілки, чашки, столові прилади та серветки. Ми також забезпечуємо каву, чай, вершки, цукор та масло. Добровольцям не потрібно приносити ці речі.

СВЯТИЙ АПОСТОЛ АНДРІЙ ПЕРВОЗВАННИЙ.

13 грудня Православна церква шанує пам’ять апостола Андрія Первозванного — одного з дванадцятьох найближчих учнів Ісуса Христа, з ім’ям якого традиція пов’язує першу проповідь християнства на схилах Дніпра, він є одним з найбільш шанованих православних святих. Ім’я Андрій в перекладі з грецької означає «мужній».

Андрій, раніше інших апостолів пішов за Господом, і за це отримав найменування Первозванного. Він перебував з Христом протягом всього періоду Його суспільного служіння. Перша згадка про апостола Андрія — в Євангелії від Марка 1,16-20, де описано покликання його разом із братом Симоном, після вилову риби у Галилейському озері. Разом з Петром, Яковом та Іоанном він був свідком однієї з перших месіанських проповідей Господа Ісуса Христа у синагозі, а також перших проявів Його месіанської сили.

Коли Іоанн Хреститель почав проповідувати на берегах Йордану, Андрій разом з Іоанном Зеведєєвим (що походив з ним з одного міста – Вифсаїди) пішов за пророком, сподіваючись в його вченні знайти відповідь на свої духовні питання. Багато хто почав думати, що може бути Іоанн Хреститель і є очікуваний Месія, але він пояснив людям, що він не Месія, а посланий тільки приготувати Йому шлях. У той час Господь Ісус Христос прийшов до Іоанна Хрестителя на Йордан для хрещення, і той, указуючи на Нього, сказав своїм учням: «Ось Агнець Божий, Який бере на себе гріхи світу». Почувши це, Андрій з Іоанном пішли за Ісусом. Він займає почесне місце серед 12 Апостолів. Христос дав апостолам владу над нечистими духами, щоб вони їх виганяли, щоб оздоровлювали всіляку недугу та неміч всіляку (Мф.10,1). Згідно з переказами, апостол Андрій проповідував на Таврійському півострові, потім по Дніпру піднявся на північ і дійшов до місця, де стоїть тепер славне місто Київ. Тут він зупинявся біля Київських гір на нічліг. Вставши вранці, він сказав тим, що були з ним: «Бачите гори ці? На цих горах засяє благодать Божа, буде велике місто, і Бог спорудить

багато церков». Апостол піднявся на гори, благословив їх і поставив хрест.

Останнім містом, куди прийшов Первозванний апостол і де йому судилося прийняти мученицьку кончину, було місто Патри, розташоване біля Корінфської затоки. Тут він зцілив від недуг багато людей. Серед зцілених була і шляхетна Максиміла, яка від щирого серця увірувала в Христа і стала ученицею апостола. Оскільки багато жителів Патри увірували в Христа, місцевий правитель Егеат запалав ненавистю проти апостола Андрія і засудив Його до розп’яття на хресті. Він велів розіпнути апостола так, щоб він якомога довше страждав. Святого Андрія прив’язали до хреста на зразок букви X. Висячи на хресті, апостол Андрій невпинно молився. Перед розлученням його душі з тілом небесне світло осяяло хрест Андрія, і в його блиску, апостол відійшов у вічне Царство Боже. Мученицька смерть апостола Андрія Первозванного відбулася близько 62 року після Різдва Христового. Максиміла зняла з хреста тіло Апостола і з честю поховала його.

В нас в Україні дуже велично і благоговійно вшановують пам’ять святого апостола Андрія Первозванного, оскільки він

вважається основоположником Української Церкви.

СВЯТИЙ МИКОЛАЙ ЧУДОТОВОРЕЦЬ.

Серед сонму святих яскравою зіркою сяє ім’я Великого Святителя Миколая Архієпископа Мир Ликійського. Багато було славних святителів у Церкві Христовій, багато з них зачислені до лику святих. Та одним з найбільш шанованих є Святитель Миколай, великий молитвенник і заступник за всіх, скорий помічник для всіх хто в біді та небезпеці. Ім’я його з великим благоговінням вимовляє весь християнський світ. Святитель Миколай народився в місті Патарі, в Малій Азії, від благородних, правовірних і багатих батьків — Феофана і Нони, близько 280 року, за царювання Валеріана. Батьки його сповідували християнську віру. Микола уже змалку був набожним. З віком він виявляв схильність до суворого стримування і полюбляв бути на самоті. Вихований у страху

Божому, він завжди уникав мирських веселощів, любив бути в Храмі Божому і, зрештою, відцурався мирського життя та прийняв чернечий чин. Після смерті своїх батьків Микола роздав свою спадщину бідним людям, а сам вирушив до Палестини поклонитися святим місцям. Після подорожі повернувся в місто Патар, де Єпископом був його дядько, який запропонував йому прийняти сан священика. Через деякий час коли помер Архієпископ, то зібралися єпископи, щоб вибрати нового владику. Всі разом почали просити Господа, щоб вказав на достойного мужа. І, як свідчить передання, найстарший з єпископів у видінні почув наказ Божий, щоб у ночі став при дверях Церкви, і хто перший прийде на ранішню молитву, той і буде єпископом, а називатиметься він Миколай.

І так сталося. Першим, хто прийшов до церкви, був Святий Миколай. Його і поставили архієпископом в місті Мир. При всьому своєму смиренні, він не міг противитись Божій волі, бо, як говорить передання, вночі перед цим явилися йому Ісус Христос і Пресвята Богородиця; Ісус подав йому Євангеліє, а Пречиста - омофор. Народ радісно вітав нового пастиря, у ньому бідні і знедолені знайшли опікуна, а всі решта найліпшого батька, на якому сповнилися слова Євангелія: «Так нехай світить перед людьми ваше світло, щоб вони, бачивши ваші добрі вчинки, прославляли вашого Отця, що на небі» (Мт.5.16).

Відтоді Святий Миколай допомагав усім, хто потребував його ласки. Своїми молитвами він утихомирює бурю на морі, рятує хворих і без ліку творить добрі діла. За такий великий і ревний труд він одержав сан Архієпископа в Мирах. Він не пишався тим, що посів таке високе становище в Церкві Христовій. Навпаки, він носив простий одяг, їв один раз на день, не прагнув до розкоші, пив лише воду, не досипав ночей, молячись. Усіх його чеснот не можна перелічити й переказати, бо їх безліч. Двері його серця відчинені для всіх, хто може з вірою просити його допомоги, а він нікому не відмовляє в пораді і дарує втіху.

Під час гоніння в Римській імперії на Церкву Христову, за царювання Діоклетіана і Максиміана, Святитель Миколай був кинутий до в’язниці. За царювання Константина Великого Святий Миколай був визволений з тюрми і повернувся до своєї катедри.

У 325 році Святитель Миколай був присутній на Першому Вселенському Соборі, де ревно захищав Православну Віру. У грудні 343 року Великий Святитель помер. Тіло його було поховане в Соборі міста Мир.

Усе життя Святителя, було безперервним подвигом любові і милосердя. Він був усім для всіх. Недужих уздоровлював, сумуючих втішав, тим що терпіли біду допомагав, для сиріт був опікуном у всіх потребах.

Тому Свята Церква з любов’ю вшановує 19 грудня день його пам’яті. Народ в потребах своїх прибігає під покров його і звертається з щирими благаннями, віруючи в силу його заступництва перед Богом, одержує допомогу.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

WE ARE STILL GATHERING FOOD AND CLOTHING for the needy. Caring and Sharing Hands has been receiving our donations for food and clothing. CURRENTLY THERE IS A DEMAND FOR THE FOOD SHELVES TO PROVIDE HOLIDAY SUSTENANCE FOR THE NEEDY. PLEASE DONATE FOOD.

There are two (2) boxes in the hall - for food and clothes. Please donate only non-perishable food such as canned goods or boxed staples such as rice, noodles, cereals, etc. All Food Should Be Within the Expiration Dates Otherwise It Will Be Thrown Away.

Clothing Should Be Either New or Gently Used. Currently we are collecting seasonal clothing. You can also donate linens and household supplies. YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

LOOKING AHEAD

ST. OLGA’S SISTERHOOD

Starting in November, the Sisterhood will hold its meeting every FIRST (1st) SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT 12:30 P.M. AFTER LITURGY IN THE CHURCH HALL.

If you are not currently a member, please consider joining us for fellowship with people you have grown up with, fun and working together for the parish that provided our parents and us as youths with sustenance, fellowship, and a relationship with the Ukrainian Orthodox church.

CHURCH BOARD MEETING

Starting in November, the Board meetings are scheduled for EVERY SECOND (2ND) SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT 12:30 P.M. AFTER LITURGY IN THE CHURCH HALL. In December the Board meeting will be held on Sunday, December 16th after St. Nicholas celebrations.

ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR:

SATURDAY, DEC. 15TH FROM 10:00 AM TO 4:00 PM

Our Parish is sponsoring an Arts and Crafts fair with items from local Ukrainian artists. Items for sale will include original artwork, embroidery, jewelry, pottery and Christmas decorations and embroidered clothing and T-shirts from Victor Lobzun. There will be varenyky, borscht and coffee and sweets for sale.

Parish members are asked to bring baked goods to sell. We need as many as we can get.

ST. NICHOLAS DAY

There will be a St. Nicholas Day Celebration in our Parish on Sunday, December 16th immediately after the Liturgy. All members and their families are invited to participate. Lunch will be served.

SISTERHOOD CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

On Friday, December 21st, the Sisterhood will be holding its annual Christmas celebration for all ladies of the community – members and non-members. This will be a potluck, so please

bring something to share.

MEMBERSHIP DUES.

This year dues for non-pensioners will be $165 per person and $115 per person for pensioners. Any member who hasn’t paid their dues for this year, and would like to do so, is encouraged to settle their account by December 31, 2018. Thanks to all parishioners who have already done so.

FELLOWSHIP COFFEE HOUR –

Everyone is invited to the church hall each Sunday after Liturgy for refreshments and fellowship with exception on the Sundays when memorial services or church dinners are planned. If you want to volunteer to host a coffee hour you may sign up on the chart by the kitchen in the Parish Hall. Many thanks to those who have volunteered in the past and to those who will volunteer to host future coffee hours.

We need volunteers to man and prepare the Coffee hour after the services. Men and women can both participate in volunteering for this very important service, since it provides fellowship for all parish members to get together and share with each other. Sisterhood will provide plates, cups, flatware and napkins. We are also providing coffee, tea, cream and sugar and butter. Volunteers do not need to provide these items

UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH LIFE APP UPDATE!

Glory to Jesus Christ! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am writing this post to give an update on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Life App for the Smart phone. You can now view the daily readings for both the Gregorian and Julian calendar. You may need to update the App on your phone to reflect the change.

For those who may not know. As part of the Strategic Plan an application was created for the Consistory called “Ukrainian Orthodox Church Life” which can be downloaded from your preferred Play Store. It has links to all the information that is on the website as well as additional information that you can access through your phone; such as new and old calendars, music, services, podcasts, events, UOC webpage. Check it out by typing

in “Ukrainian Orthodox Church Life” in the search box.

APOSTLE ANDREW, FIRST - CALLED.

The Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called was the first of the Apostles to follow Christ, and he later brought his own brother, the holy Apostle Peter, to Christ (John 1:35-42). The future apostle was from Bethsaida, and from his youth he turned with all his soul to God. He did not enter into marriage, and he worked with his brother as a fisherman. When the holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John began to preach, Saint Andrew became his closest disciple. Saint John the Baptist himself sent to Christ his own two disciples, the future Apostles Andrew and John the Theologian, declaring Christ to be the Lamb of God.

After the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, Saint Andrew went to the Eastern lands preaching the Word of God. He went through Asia Minor, Thrace, Macedonia, he reached the River Danube, went along the coast of the Black Sea, through Crimea, the Black Sea region and along the River Dnipro he climbed to the place where the city of Kyiv now stands.

He stopped overnight on the hills of Kyiv. Rising in the morning, he said to those disciples that were with him: “See these hills? Upon these hills shall shine forth the beneficence of God, and there will be a great city here, and God shall raise up many churches.” The apostle went up around the hills, blessed them and set up a cross. The name of the holy Apostle Andrew links the mother, the Church of Constantinople, with her daughter, the Ukrainian Church.

The Lord worked many miracles through His disciple in Patra. The infirm were made whole, and the blind received their sight. Through the prayers of the Apostle, the illustrious citizen Sosios recovered from serious illness; he healed Maximilla, wife of the governor of Patra, and his brother Stratokles. The miracles accomplished by the Apostle and his fiery speech enlightened almost all the citizens of the city of Patra with the true Faith.

Few pagans remained at Patra, but among them was the prefect of the city, Aegeatos. The Apostle Andrew repeatedly turned to him with the words of the Gospel. But even the miracles of the Apostle did not convince Aegeatos. The holy Apostle with love

and humility appealed to his soul, striving to reveal to him the Christian mystery of life eternal, through the wonderworking power of the Holy Cross of the Lord. The angry Aegeatos gave orders to crucify the apostle. The pagan thought he might undo Saint Andrew’s preaching if he were to put him to death on the cross.

Saint Andrew the First-Called accepted the decision of the prefect with joy and with prayer to the Lord, and went willingly to the place of execution. In order to prolong the suffering of the saint, Aegeatos gave orders not to nail the saint’s hands and feet, but to tie them to the cross. For two days the apostle taught the citizens who gathered about. The people, in listening to him, with all their souls pitied him and tried to take Saint Andrew down from the cross. Fearing a riot of the people, Aegeatos gave orders to stop the execution. But the holy apostle began to pray that the Lord would grant him death on the cross. Just as the soldiers tried to take hold of the Apostle Andrew, they lost control of their hands. The crucified apostle, having given glory to God, said: “Lord Jesus Christ, receive my spirit.” Then a blazing ray of divine light illumined the cross and the martyr crucified upon it. When the light faded, the holy Apostle Andrew had already given up his holy soul to the Lord. Maximilla, the wife of the prefect, had the body of the saint taken down from the cross, and buried him with honor.

A few centuries later, under the emperor Constantine the Great, the relics of the holy Apostle Andrew were solemnly transferred to Constantinople and placed in the church of the Holy Apostles beside the relics of the holy Evangelist Luke and Saint Paul’s

disciple Saint Timothy.

WONDERWORKER ST. NICHOLAS.

Saint Nicholas was born in Patara in Lycia towards the end of the third century, to Christian parents who had long been childless. From infancy, he showed his love of virtue and his zeal for observing the ordinances of the Church by abstaining from his mother’s breast on Wednesdays and Fridays until the evening. Pious and inclined to silence, he was educated in theology and,

while still young, was ordained priest by his uncle, Archbishop Nicholas. For many years, vigil, fasting and prayer were the virtues he excelled in, but from the time of his parents’ death and his giving away his inheritance to the needy, the virtue of almsgiving became his greatest glory to God. He regarded himself merely as the steward of goods which belonged to the poor and took particular care to keep his good deeds secret, so as not to lose the heavenly reward (cf. Matthew 6:7). On three occasions he secretly left gold enough for the marriage portions of three maidens whom their debt-ridden father intended to give up to prostitution. When the man eventually discovered his good deed, Nicholas made him promise, as he valued his salvation, to tell no one of it.

God recompensed him through the charismata and miracles for which he became renowned in the sight of men. On pilgrimage to the Holy Places he twice by his prayer calmed the winds that imperiled the ship he was sailing in.

Soon after his return, an angel made known to the synod of bishops, meeting to elect a shepherd for the nearby city of Myra, that they should choose Nicholas—which they did, to the joy of the people. During the last great persecution under Diocletian and Maximian (c. 305), Saint Nicholas was thrown into prison where he continued to confirm his spiritual flock in the faith. With the accession of Constantine, he was very zealous for the destruction of idolatrous temples and for driving out the demons that inhabited them. Among the Fathers gathered at Nicaea in 325 for the first Ecumenical Council, Nicholas was one of the leading champions of Orthodoxy against the impious heresy of Arius, which had so swiftly sprung up to trouble and divide the holy Body of Christ.

He saved the city of Myra from famine by appearing to the master of a vessel laden with corn, and telling him to discharge his cargo at the harbor there. Later the man of God saved the lives of three Roman officers unjustly accused of conspiracy, by appearing in a dream to the Emperor Constantine and to the perfidious Prefect Avlavius. Full of gratitude to the Saint for their deliverance, the three soldiers became monks.

Saint Nicholas, with Saint George, is one of the Saints most beloved by Christian people in the East as well as in the West. The churches dedicated to him are as countless as the places and the faithful named after him. He is especially revered by the orthodox people as the protector of crops, and in the West he is regarded as the patron of schoolchildren and of young people in general.

CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS FOR THE CONSISTORY!

We are very pleased to announce a unique and special opportunity for the youth of our church. His Eminence Archbishop Daniel invites all youth to create and submit handmade ornaments for a special Christmas tree at the Consistory Offices. Ornaments should be handmade by the youth themselves and appropriate for display in the rotunda of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA.

His Eminence will PERSONALLY hang the ornaments on the tree in thanks to our youth for their contributions.

All ornaments should be sent directly to His Eminence Archbishop Daniel by DECEMBER 19, 2018.

Description: Living a Disciplined Life in Christ ~ 2018 Advent Retreat

~ I’ve Fallen and I Need to Get up! Using the Parable of the Prodigal Son as our guide we will examine the need to repent and return to our Loving Father.

Upright and Walking in Christ. Using the Sermon on the Mount as our guide we will examine the need to walk upright and in the disciplines given by our Lord and Savior.

Father Evan has been the parish priest of Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Loveland, Colorado since August 2007. He is the Metropolis of Denver Program Director of Camp Emmanuel, its summer youth camp program, and has served as the Metropolis of Denver Clergy Brotherhood President. Father Evan taught New Testament Studies and Early Christian Literature at Colorado Christian University and lectures extensively through- out the United States. He is also the host of a live call-in radio program called “Orthodoxy Live” which can be found on Ancient Faith Radio.

A program for youth, grades K-12, will be offered as a part of the Retreat.
