Welcome!

Dear Parents,

It has been over 48 hours since School officially opened and already so much has happened! Opening Day was full of energy and excitement, and the annual Square Dance was nothing short of amazing. Each Form had a chance to bond during Monday’s Orientation Day activities, and I am happy to say that the third academic day of the 2013-2014 School year has officially commenced!

I write to introduce myself and my role at St. Andrew’s. I am a 1999 graduate of St. Andrew’s and feel incredibly blessed to have returned as a faculty member. As the Director of Parent Giving, I work passionately year round to help protect and sustain the mission of this School. I hope to get to know each and every one of you and your St. Andrew’s experience. If you have any questions about St. Andrew’s, visiting campus, events, or if you have anything else on your mind, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will also be your key point of contact for the St. Andrew’s Annual Fund; I look forward to working together to uphold our mission, protect our endowment, and ensure that we have the autonomy every single year to admit the best students, hire the best faculty and cultivate the ethos and culture that are so distinctively St. Andrew’s.

I am thrilled you are a part of the St. Andrew’s family, and I hope to see you at a St. Andrew’s event soon!

All my best,

Bernadette Devine ’99Director of Parent Relations and Parent Giving

A Mission Protected by Philanthropy

In 1929, A. Felix duPont set about to create the unthinkable: a School “open to all, regardless of means.” He then, in the midst of the Great Depression, built St. Andrew’s thanks to generosity of many. While campus is dramatically different today, we remain committed to Mr. duPont’s mission. The result not only provides the St. Andrew’s opportunity for exceptional students of every background, but has helped us build a community where students uphold and fight for a culture of kindness, intellectual curiosity, sustainability, honor and community service. Every year, alumni, parents, grandparents and friends support St. Andrew’s through the Annual Fund, the backbone of our fundraising efforts. It covers over 10% of the School’s operating budget. This includes weekend activities for students, acquisitions for the classroom, library, athletics and technology, faculty support and of course, financial aid. The Annual Fund is fundamental in sustaining our mission and our dedication to our students, faculty and staff for generations to come. Current parents have been some of our most passionate advocates and ardent supporters. There is no amount too small or too big; last year we had gifts ranging from $5 to $60,000 and every single one of them made a powerful impact on the experience of our current students and our School community. Each dollar contributed to St. Andrew’s helps to preserve the endowment’s ability to grow and sustain the mission well into the future.

We hope you find being a part of the St. Andrew’s family inspiring, gratifying and uplifting. If you should have any questions about the Annual Fund, or if you would like to show your support of St. Andrew’s and its mission, please feel free to visit our online giving page or contact me directly at (302) 285-4274 or bdevine@standrews-org.

Staying Up-To-Date from Afar

We know how difficult it can be to send your child away to boarding school and not be fully aware of what they are up to, day-in and day-out. Each year, we work to bring you more and more insight into the daily happenings of St. Andrew’s. Your kids are doing incredible things in the classroom, on dorm, in the arts and on the athletic fields every single day, and we hope to share as many of these stories with you as possible! Below, I have outlined a few different ways in which you can connect to St. Andrew’s from around the world.

Parent Webpage The Parent Webpage is your primary source for information and news from campus. It houses everything from the Faculty Directory and the School Calendar to the School Store and Headlines from campus.

Wednesday Evening Chapel TalksIt has become a tradition and an honor for members of our faculty, staff and student body to speak at St. Andrew’s Wednesday evening Chapels. If you are ever in town on a Wednesday evening, we hope you will join us for sit down dinner and our Wednesday evening Chapel Service. Recent chapel talks can be found on our podcast channel and past talks are archived as well for your reading and/or listening pleasure.

Parent Noxontown News Every Friday you will receive an email from our Director of Communications, Will Robinson. It will provide you with the most up-to-date news on campus, stories, photos, calendars and more! You can also find an archive of the Parent Noxontown News on the lower right hand side of the Parent Webpage entitled “2013-2014 Parent Emails.”

Sports CalendarYou can find the most up-to-date sports calendars, rosters and results on the Cardinal Sports Webpage, which is also linked on the Parent Webpage. We hope you can come to as many games as possible, home and away, to cheer on the SAINTS!

Noxontown BlogTad Roach, Will Speers and other members of the faculty contribute to our Noxontown Blog. Check back often for their thoughts on current events, education and much more.

School CalendarThe St. Andrew’s School Calendar can be found at the bottom of the Parent Webpage.

Mailing Address: Student Name St. Andrew’s School 350 Noxontown Road Middletown, DE 19709

Please note: If you send a package overnight and it is urgent that your child receive it, please contact your child to let them know to look out for it. Students check their mail mid-morning during break, but often packages come later in the day so a package slip may not yet be in their mailbox.

Become a Parent Volunteer

There is a high level of parent involvement at St. Andrew’s that resonates through all of campus life. We are incredibly grateful to parents who host Admissions events and College Network Fall Dinners in addition to regularly attending St. Andrew’s receptions, performances and athletic events. We also work with Annual Fund Parent Volunteers who spend time during the year reaching out to other families to explain why supporting St. Andrew’s through the Annual Fund is so important and to encourage participation at any level. Our Parent Volunteers typically call five to six other parents to talk to them about the Annual Fund. In the spring, they also help coordinate Form Potluck Picnics on the Friday of Arts Weekend. The energy, spirit and support of our Parent Volunteers over the years have been invaluable to us, and we are grateful for their commitment to making St. Andrew’s thrive and flourish.

If you have any interest in being a Parent Volunteer, please email me at [email protected].

Visiting Campus

We hope you will have the opportunity to visit campus many times a year and if you find time, please stop by my office in the old gym tower to say hello!

• For directions, local restaurants and accommodations, please visit the maps and directions tab on our Parent Webpage. We often block off rooms at some of the local hotels during event weekends, so be sure to ask if there is a St. Andrew’s rate available.

• Many of you will travel down Silver Lake Road as you approach campus. There are multiple schools along this road, our students walk and bike into town via this road and there are often speed traps; we encourage you to drive slowly.

• If you wish to take your child out to dinner while you are visiting campus, please make sure he/she signs out by the Main Common room before leaving campus.

• Our campus is full of wonderful trails through the woods and around the fields, and we invite you to explore! If you plan on going for a walk or run, please email me so I can alert security to your presence on campus.
