PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

School Council Election - 2017

Nominations for parent representatives on school council opened on Monday 20th February 2017. Self-nomination forms are available from the Office, from the news item on Compass or from the school website. Nominations for the four available positions will close at 4pm on Monday 27th February 2017.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the four retiring school councillors, Trevor Sharrock, Kristen Steer, Anne Choy and Maria Skouteris for their commitment to the school and for the support they have shown to Andrew and the EHPS community over the past two years.

Parent/Guardian Information Night

As you see on the front of the newsletter we have scheduled a Parent Information Evening for next Tuesday, 28th February. The format will allow a classroom meeting for parents to meet teachers and discuss year level specific matters from 6pm to 6.45pm. The meetings will be held in the following rooms:

Prep – Eucalyptus 1

Year 1 – Individual classrooms

Year 2 – Violet – individual classrooms

Year 3/4 – Portable 1

Year 5/6 – Banksia 1

The Year level meetings will be followed by an address from Educational Psychologist and Parent Educator, Chris Daicos, who will speak on the topic of “Developing Optimism”. Last year parents responded very positively to her talk and we hope that her topic this year will continue to give us all ways to build positive relationships with our children.

School Wide Positive Behaviours Support Program (SWPBS)

At assembly on Monday I mentioned to students that I had toured three different families around our school and all three commented upon the excellent learning environment in classes and how well our children were working. At Essex Heights, as part of our SWPBS program we expect that students will be safe, responsible and that they will be learners. I am very proud that visitors to the school can see that immediately. All students should be congratulated and praised for their great work. This week’s ‘Baik Sekali’ awards for displaying positive behaviour went to:

Cooper in 1G for showing the school value of inclusiveness and playing nicely with friends

Oscar in 1G for being responsible

Ethan from 2D for walking a new student to the sick bay and being very helpful.

We all congratulate these students for living up to our school expectations.

Pink Stumps Day

On Wednesday the whole school was involved in Pink Stumps Day to raise money for the McGrath Foundation. It was a fun day for staff and students and showed the marvellous school spirit present at Essex Heights. So many children came dressed in pink, not to mention some of the outrageous staff costumes. The Year 6 students were very confident coming into the day, and it was fair to say that they had significant support. The staff team were the underdogs going into the match. Recent results had the students as clear favourites. The game was conducted in excellent spirit and both teams performed well. At the end, the staff turned the tables on the Year 6 students to record a memorable win. The event raised $620.35 which is a wonderful effort and everyone should be congratulated. A special thank you to Mr Pap and Ms Savva for their excellent organisation of the whole day and once again the PFA supported the day by providing icy-poles for everyone. Thank you!!

A few important items that you should note over the next few weeks: Assembly 27th February – School Leadership badges presented by Michael Gidley, MLA Assembly 6th March – Junior School Council badges presented by Julia Banks, MHR PFA AGM – 8th March Grandparents Day - 31st March

I look forward to seeing you over the next week at the Parent Information Night. George Perini

PARENTS & FRIENDS NEWS

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to tell you that Jen and the team raised $708 at the Secondhand Uniform Stall last week, totally amazing! Huge thanks to Jen, Raema, Pauline, Mel, Sophie, Lauren and Andrea.

Thanks also to Betty and all the helpers who handed around icy poles for the children at Pink Stumps Day yesterday. I’m sure the frozen treats were very welcome in the heat.

Calling all dads! The Mother’s Day Breakfast will be held on Thursday 11th May, and I’m sure it will be here before we know it. The wonderful Tristan has offered to take charge again, but it would be great to get a handful of dads together to help organise it – even two or three. If you’d like to know more, please get in touch at [email protected].

Make sure you pop Wednesday 8th March at 7.30pm in the Staff Room, in your diary. The PFA Annual General Meeting is on! All parents, guardians, grandparents and friends of the school are very welcome.

See you at the Parent Information Night next Tuesday – if not before.

Andrea Jordan President, PFA
